2 Free Ways To Easily Increase Your RSS Backlinks

In this post we’re going to discuss 2 Free Ways To Easily Increase Your RSS Backlinks using WordPress Plugins.

The “SS” in RSS stands for Simple Syndication and yes it is easy to get your content syndicated… IF your site has an RSS feed.

When you have a popular site like Garry’s blog, there tends to be people who like your content so much they decide to “scrape your feed”.  Scraping a feed, or RSS scraping is pretty easily done and it’s what a lot of the auto-bloggers do using plugins like WP-O-Matic, FeedWordPress and many others…

RSS Scraping – The Bad

Sometimes people scraping your feed don’t link back to the source of their scraped content (your site) Sometimes these RSS scrapers even pull your full content and remove any hyperlinks in your content.

Note: The sites that steal your content this way (without linking back properly) are usually super-low-quality sites filled with duplicate content so they’ll never cause a dilution of your valuable content.

RSS Scraping – The Good

Most people who scrape your content will provide a link to the source from which the content was obtained.  These tend to be better quality sites because when they link back to your blog content, it sends a trackback to your site, and if you have a blog with trackbacks enabled, then their trackbacks get displayed as a blog ocmment, which provides a link back to them.

Therefore, these RSS Scraper who syndicated your content properly tend to have better quality sites, thus provide better backlinks.

Now, with all that said, how can you increase the number of backlinks obtained from the people who are scraping your RSS feeds?

2 ways…

1- Every now and then include your domain name in your post content like this ( http://garryconn.com)

The reason you want to do this is to get what is known as a “naked link” into your content, so if there’s a person whose website is scraping your content in full verbatim form illegally) then at least you’ll get a naked non-hyper-linked domain url reference out of it.

2- Put more backlinks inside your RSS feed

The default setting for a blog’s main site feed lists a post title that is hyperlinked to the post url then a description below it..  Below is an example of how a main site feed would look (using default, out-of-the-box settings)

How To Get More Backlinks From RSS Using Niche + Merged Feeds

One thing a lot of webmasters should do is created merged feeds that are compilations of other feeds and web properties you’d like to draw attention to.  Another thing most people who submit their site feeds don’t do is they don’t submit their feeds to the niche-specific RSS directories that are out there.

If you have people scraping your RSS feed properly, you get one backlink out of this ( they link to your latest blog post listed in your site feed. To get more backlinks out of this whole thing you can use a plugin called RSS footer to forcibly display more backlinks in your RSS feeds.

Here’s an example of how an RSS Feed would look if it had the RSS Footer plugin activated:

RSS FOOTER

RSS FOOTER

This adds more urls inside your RSS feed and is an easy way to increase your inner page and post backlinks.

The Plugin I recommend for this is RSS footer

The Second easy way to increase backlinks using RSS feeds.

Most blogs should have a Related Post Plugin Installed on their site to display related posts and the end of articles in case there’s more relevant information readers might want to educate themselves on.

The added bonus to using a Related Post plugin is that it also adds your related posts url into your RSS feed, so you can actually have several urls listed per RSS feed item displayed on your main feed.

And when you submit your RSS feeds to directories and/or get your feed content scraped, this adds more backlinking potential for you on autopilot.

The plugins I recommend for this are:

  • Related Posts Plugin
  • Yet Another Related Posts Plugin

Here’s how Garry’s feed looks with Related Posts being displayed in his main site feed:

These are one-time things you can do to increase your backlinks and site exposure and highly recommended, especially since it’s free to do   :)

I hope you enjoyed this series on using RSS for backlinks.
