2008 Make Money Online Pulse Check

make-money-online-pulse-check

I really enjoy helping people on my blog. The main topic I write about is making money online and all the little things that fall within being successful with this line of business. I am releasing this article this evening a few hours early to get some extra exposure.

Jan 1st. 2008 marks my first year anniversary. I would like to offer the first 100 people that read this article the opportunity to complete a brand new annual survey that I will be conducting around the same time every year.

This survey is called, The Make Money Online Pulse Check. This survey is designed to collect specific data from you (my reader) that will allow me (your teacher) to understand first hand the things that you need the most help with. Secondly, this collection of data will tell me important things about the perception of my blog and how well you are satisfied with how I run it.

Believe it or not… this is only a 10 question survey and it will take you about 5 to 10 minutes to complete.

If you choose to take the survey, please be serious about it. I am only allowed 100 entries, after that, I will have to pay money to collect more entries.

If you don’t want to complete the survey, please don’t feel like you are expected to. Again, I ONLY need 100 people to do it…

However, if you feel that it is important to voice your anonymous opinion and have a 1% authority on the future direction of this blog, I’d advice that you jump on this opportunity real quick. Again, after you complete the survey only 99 more people will have the opportunity to do the same and depending on the results of the data that I collect will result in an adjustment in which I run this blog for the year.

Scroll up to the top of the page to complete the survey or you can follow THIS LINK.

Please take this very seriously and answer EVERY question. Feel free to drop me a comment to discuss anything related to the survey.

Hey Garry,

That was a pretty cool survey. I took the survey but thought that I would add some more thorough comments here.

I think that people want an organized system for how to make money online. I know that I want to feel like each day I am moving myself forward in my goal to make money online.

I would love to be given weekly actions to take to move me a head in my journey. People read tons of articles about how to make money online, but they don’t take action. In some cases this is because they are not motivated. But in other cases, they simply don’t know what first step to take. It would be great to know that if I take steps one through fifty over the next year, I would be on my way to making money online.

Just some thoughts.

Fred these are awesome thoughts… immediately what comes to mind is the idea of me creating a live progress chart that allows users to record and make entries towards the level of their achievements. This would be fairly easy for me to do and I think I will draft something up in the upcoming weeks.

Imagine being able to log into a system that allows you to add entries into it and allows you to chart and map your progress among the many aspects of making money online. This is way cool… I’ll keep you posted.

Already I am seeing some very interesting data. Thank you very much for completing the survey as this will totally reveal to me a lot about my readership and the areas people need help with as well as many of their reading style preferences. :)

Internet Marketing Blog,

The way I see it is like this. Based on the feedback from my readers a little over a week ago, I had a real good feeling that the majority preferred one article per day. When volume is reduced down to that level, it makes people more comfortable and less overwhelmed with having the sensation of having to be quick and not fall behind schedule. I can relate and I get frustrated too when I see my Google Reader fill up. Naturally, I want to read everything and feel complete knowing the my readers says 0 unread.

With that being said, by reducing my volume down to one per day, it is very CRUCIAL that my content is SPOT on with what my readers want to read. If I am off topic to what my readers want, it could be a few days maybe even up to a week for people to have the opportunity to read something that interests them.

As it stands now… I have so many new faces here on the site, and I honestly have no clue what people need help with. I am pretty diverse in my skills and I can bring a lot to the table.

This is aspect has been taken into consideration with the survey. As you now know, the survey does quite a bit within the realm of 10 questions.

One, I find out where my readers weaknesses and strengths are.
Two, I find out their preferences in how they like to read the blog (ie. in RSS or web based).
Three, I find out how often they like to see new content written.
Four, I find out their preference in the length of each article (their attention span)
Five, I find out what topics they like to write about and what niche areas they are experts in.
Six, I find out the amount of time they can invest per week into blogging.
Seven, I find out how many blogs they author or manage.
Eight, I find out their skill level with search engine marketing and optimization.
Nine, I find out how many MMO programs they are participating in and how well they perform in them.
Ten, I find out the kind of traffic they want to cater to (ie. search engine traffic or regular reader traffic)

Honestly… after collecting 100 entries, I will know so much about my readers “Needs and Wants”. I will know exactly how to cater to them and provide information that they really and truly need that will help them. I will have numbers that show me exactly what the majority of my readers need in order to find success with making money online with a blog.

So far, the stats are truly amazing! For one… I had NO idea that 40% of my readers aren’t using Commission Junction!!! OMG Hello… sign up today!!! Even if you only make $20 dollars, its money you didn’t have before!

90% of my reader are NOT members of Yahoo Publisher! Wow… I have so many blogs that show adsense on one section and then YPN on another… (i.e. I show Google Adsense on the home page, category pages and tag pages… but show Yahoo Publisher or Bidvertiser on the individual post pages)

70% of my readers are average/above average in SEO… that means to me, that I may be wasting their time by over saturating my site with SEO tips. (BTW, I just bought a killer domain name from my bud, Kyle… SEOBlogTips.com. So, discovering that people might not need SEO tips here on GCDC, I can easily start another blog and target people who do need the tips.

Only 20% of my readers consider themselves to be excellent leaders… Man, its all about leadership, I want to birth leaders here on GCDC… I am all about leadership and being the best at what I do. Part of my job is to assure that I am training new leaders who can thrive and take what I have taught them to higher levels.

Here is something totally SHOCKING!!!!

60% of my readers invest 30 to 41+ hours per week into blogging. That is a TON of time!! and if little to zero money is coming in… then that is a huge problem. I need to quickly provide my readers with time management tips! I would have NEVER guessed that if it wasn’t for this survey.

… Did I mention that I love data!! I am going to be up all night looking at this report. I am kicking myself for not doing this before. This data is VITAL towards providing my readers with everything they need.

There are still plenty of slots left people… keep the survey submissions coming in! All these #’s and %s that I mentioned above are NOT final numbers… I can’t wait to get the 100 needed submissions and share the information with you guys. :)

You’ll keep what in mind? The survey, the content of the article, the comments?? Not quite sure what “This” is there Mike. :)

BTW, I like your new theme.

Garry,

Let me add some specifics to my post above. For the following areas, I would love to hear your thoughts on,

1. how to make money from them
2. steps need to be taken to make money from them
3. a case study lead by you showing how to make money

Topics of interest:

1. Niche websites with 1 to 10 pages of content (small projects to add multiple streams of income.

2. Niche blogs that new content will be added to them continuously

3. Adsense

4. Affiliate marketing

5. Tips for how to use Wordpress and Blogger for making money online

6. Bum marketing

7. Areas that you know about, that I don’t :)

The key to this is the action lists and the case studies. Then, your community of readers can add how they are doing on their own initiatives that are replicating your techniques that you share. This would get your community involved and would allow us to see first hand how to do this stuff.

I’d like to see a series of posts covering one aspect of money-making at a time.

For example, my blog is receiving over 2,500 visitors per day but is making less than $100 a month.

I know that I should be able to earn a good affiliate income with that level of traffic, but have no idea where to start!!

I’ve got my 1% of site feedback done for you Garry, sorry it’s taken longer than I’d ahve liked - my main pc’s motherboard has died on me - after reading your recent Mac post - I’m sorely tempted to re-evaluate my own approach to computing - if only avoid wasting my time in future by building my own pcs, I don’t think it’s worthwhile these days.

Anyway, sorry for that tangent - back onto topic, a few things to stick out to me…

1. I personally love reading about how to develop and code things, you do great guides and I always find them useful - more along those lines would be great for me - particularly about creating your themes and such?

2. I like reading SEO tips, but this is such a huge topic in itself, perhaps the separate blog site for that would be a great area for you to move into?

3. Identifying ways to utilise various income avenues would be good, most that you listed I’ve never looked at before, so tips on how best to use them would be good!

Man, I have really got some awesome feedback here as well as in the survey.. thank you guys so much!

Zath! Yes, indeed… and a total special THANK YOU goes out to Kyle Eslick for allowing me the opportunity to purchase the perfect domain name for that topic.

SEOBlogTips.com was transfered to me a few days ago from Kyle and I think it would be a perfect place to provide those tips requested.

I know for sure, that it will be a very LOW volume blog; however, when I do post on it you can count on the level of quality being very high and very informative as well as educational and instructive.
