I am reading a lot about WordPress blogs getting attacked or infected with viruses. A recent story made it to the top page on Reddit. The issue at hand is with unauthorized attempts to login to the Admin panel. Other reports include brute force attacks against WordPress sites.
I don't think virus attacks against WordPress will go away. WordPress has become increasingly popular and is a prime target of interest. One safety tip you can do is to change your admin password to something more complicated. However, it seems that many attacks come in through security holes within the WordPress application itself.
Another thing you can do to help keep your WordPress blog safe is install this AntiVirus WordPress Plugin. This plugin will scan your theme files for malicious virus injections. It features a virus alert in the admin bar, provides the option to have daily scan reports emailed to you and many more features.
