Are You An Honest Blogger?

So bloggers are just pure and outright liars. They lie about their traffic, lie about the money that they say they make and lie about a skill they claim to be an expert about.

Then on the flip side, there are bloggers who very well may been too honest. They are so honest that the truth of what they say actually hurts them as for the fact that they give away all their ideas. (Who does that remind you of?)

I believe that there is a balance. For one, you should always be an honest blogger, but when it comes down to revealing your secrets in blogging such as marketing tactics, strategies, and certain tweaks that you have discovered, what should you do? Should you reveal those secrets? Should you keep them to yourself?

Here is a little overview of what I do. I do give away quite a bit of secrets. But I’d like to believe, that I make it so that people have to work for use of the secret. Meaning, I don’t just give it all away wrapped up with a bow tie. Usually there is a part of learning or execution that has to take place prior to utilizing a very powerful secret revealed.

Anyway, are you an honest blogger? Do you think that you’re too honest? I’ll leave you with a funny comic strip I found on CyberCoder’s post titled, Honest Blogging.

Hi Garry! I don’t know how to be anything but honest and in some ways, it has hurt me a little. No matter what type of blog a person has, being honest and having integrity is priceless and will separate you from the rest. I don’t believe there are secrets other than hard work and the ability to engage people. You are definitely down to Earth and modest - which, in my opinion, gives you the ability to relate to anyone from any level of blogging:)

I’m in the same sort of boat I suppose. What I struggle with is this, what should I give and what should I sell. I know what works for me or has worked and I tend to just go on a post about I do it. I’m sure most of what I go on about is freely available out there and I know some of what I do just by way of doing it and having had to figure it out along the way has been sold by other bloggers or marketers in general. I dont go all hypey ( is that a word) and say HEY LOOK AT HOW MUCH MONEY I’M MAKING. That just isnt me. This isnt a plug for me or anything at all but over the past year Ive been documenting what Ive done to maximize AdSense CTR. I’m sure its nothing extraordinary just soem pain staking research and fooling around. And it s been by alot of reading and trial and error and looking at other websites and peeling apart their source code to figure what they’re doing.
I haven’t blogged about it and am struggling with the idea if I should or not. I give away quite a bit. Maybe its the blue collar in me and I like tools. So I figure most other people would like the right tools to do their jobs as well. So I just share it. I personally dont like hype. I like to know that what I am looking at or going to get is going to work. Its funny too because I think that a large part of my personality is the problem solver.”this is broken how do I fix it” again you see the blue collar in me.(i’m a plumber) family and friends are all blue collar hard worker types. So that rubs off in my blogging. I like to dig into to a problem and see what I can do to fix it. Ive been told that I should sel more of my own products but I figure and this maybe misguided that It’s alreadey freely available. Crap If some knuckle head like me figured it out how hard can it be for someone else to do the same. I dunno and another thig is and thinkthi is largely an upbringing thing to is I dont really like to talk about money. Yeah yeah I know what my blog is called I chose that back when I was new to blogging. So cut me some slack will ya. :-P But you find any post except maybe one where I found it relevant (case study wise) to mention that I made a sale or two doing something. I think I’m pretty straight up and honest. I like to help where and when I can. I dont mind digging in and getting my hands dirty if thats what I takes to get the job done. Which is what Ilike about blogging. everything needs to be done all sorts of needs wants and desires need to be filled and figured out. Anyways Ive said enough.
Good topic though Garry!!

Well, I let my viewers judge that, but I definetly sincerely share my experiences and knwoledge since I believe in sharing and helping. Also, most of what we learn online if free. I think it’s selfish to just grab knowledge everywhere and then keep the tricks and secrets for yourself..

tricks and secrets. First off? Tricks are for kids… love that cereal by the way. Man when I see that phrase or the use of the word secret on one of those 50 page sales letters I just laugh, scroll to the bottom immediately and see what they’re offering to sell this “secret “for. I personally think it’s one of the most overused sales copy slogans. Much like the 24 point verdana red font. Seriously who has time to read all that!! I’m sure ive used the term secret once or twice. Have I? I’d have to check. LOL maybe I should shut up before I check huh. Its kind of like the fine print on cars sales pages in your local paper. I bought a jeep patriot yesterday. my girlfriend has a friend who is a car sles mgr here in ottawa. I asked him about these sales pages of course his response was check the fine print. 96 month leases frieght and all the extras….. It’s the same BS that more or less occurs on the web. It gets you in the door gets you to buy then you find it a while later some blogger has a post about the same 47$ dollar e-book you just bought. WOW some secret huh. I guess I was the only one who didnt know this secret and I paid 47 bucks for freely available info!! makes me laugh really. Which is why I am sort of relectant to really “sell” an ebook of my own. Or maybe it’s just me. (maybe its the just IM niche and blogging niche) Anyone have thoughts on this? My mom for instance grows killer roase plants and tomatoes. Seriously these things are monsters. Im pretty sure If I sat down and got her to write out what she does I could sell a “how to grow an 8 ft tomato plant” Ok maybe her plants arent 8 feet…. imagine that huh… Or I know this is weird but I have mastered the art and science of cast iron pot and pan care really man you shouldsee my cast pot and pan they look like brand new and theyre years old… HAHAHAHAHA anyone wanna JV with me on this whacked idea.
Sorry garry if I’m blabbering on so much about this but your touched a nerve with me on this.
