Backwards Thinking For Backward Linking

A Special Way Backward Links Can Work For You

Some bloggers are really nuts about gaining as much exposure and traffic as they can to their site. I am cool with that! People who are active with getting traffic to their sites feel that their content is worth reading. And I appreciate any means of advertising unless it is spam. For those bloggers out there that like to get their name out and find themselves writing down their site address on napkins, bathroom walls, and roof tops for Google Earth… here is a tip for you.

When people think of backward links, they commonly think of how many sites link back to their own site. The amount of backward links a site has is one of those unwritten rules of gauging how popular a site truly is. In simple terms, people think the more backward links they have to their site, the better and more popular their site is. And yes… that may be true, but not the point of this article. The point of this article is simple and I would guess, very overlooked. I know that I overlooked it… but not anymore.

How often to you check the Google PageRank of a site? How often do you check to see how many backward links a site has? If you are similar to me, then you check these things quite often. I don’t know about you, but I like to know how popular certain sites are. Especially when I consider contributing time into commenting and putting forth the effort of voicing my opinion or offering a suggestion and or thought on the site. Quite simply, if the site doesn’t get much exposure or traffic, many people feel that it isn’t worth their time to comment and contribute.

I didn’t make this rule… but this does seem to be a simple fact. If a blog site looks to be void of people and daily traffic, then the few people that do pass by, do just that… pass by. No comments and never to return. Again, I didn’t make this rule… but I am here to try to change it.

So, you are like me… you check the Google PageRank of other sites, and you also check to see how many backward links the site has in Google. How often do you click and investigate the sites that link to the site you are checking? Again… if you are like me, then you do this often.

The same ranking rules seem to apply with the ranking of the sites listed in Google backward links result pages. From what I can tell… sites that link back to others are ranked highest in Google according to their relevancy to that site and with weight held on their own Google PageRank.

In other words… stop being stingy… and start expanding your blogroll or links page… because the sites you link to eventually will get traffic to them. And yes… it is important to have complete link exchanges… but even if you can’t get those worked out, still go ahead and provide a link to their site. When people visit this site (not from your own traffic) they will check the backward links on this site, and see that your site is one of the sites that link to it. 9 out of 10 times… your site will receive visits because you have provided a one way links to other sites. Again, ask yourself how many sites have you visited yourself by clicking on a site listed in Google’s Backward Links results page? I do it every day!

Open up your blogroll, link to sites that are similar to yours, because eventually people will check to see who links to these sites, and when they see your site listed… these people will follow through and visit your site.

That is backwards thinking for backward links!

Want a bonus?

Providing links to new sites, and sites that are not popular… the little amount of people that visit their site, will check the sites PageRank and backward links… and when they do, they will see you. Times this by 100, 1000, or 10,000, and we are talking about quite a bit of daily traffic to your own site, just by providing one way links to other site.
