Best AntiVirus Software
AntiVirus software has been around for years. There are literally hundreds of different brands of antivirus software. Are you using the best Antivirus software available? I want to open a discussion and encourage you to voice your opinion. It is important that bloggers are protected again viruses on the Internet. Computer viruses make me nervous. I am pretty particular about making sure my computer is always up to date and I have an antivirus program installed and also kept up to date. However, I am curious to discover what brands of antivirus software most bloggers in the blogosphere use. Are well all protecting our computers as best as we should?

I was using Norton but now I’m using a free antivirus program.
I am not using it
I am running a linux machine.
Just yesterday a friend asked me which AV software she should install. Only one I remember I was happy with was Avast. Years ago it was a nice and free thing to keep your machine safe. I don’t know how the scene is developing these days.
Right now Im using BitDefender. Its my first all-in-one. I like it so far.
Before that I used Avast with Ad-Aware and Sygate Firewall.
I’ve been using AVG Antivirus for years. Occasionally, I try out a free trial of something else, but I always come back to AVG in the end.
i always be using AVG antivirus because it is easy for maintenance. norton av also good but it take a lot of my comp. memory compared to AVG..
Avast does a fine job. You can find out other capable ones here:

I prefer free and non-bloated anti-virus software. I use Avast on most computers and keep AVG installed on one computer to track how it is doing.
Avast updates almost daily and works great in the background. Only annoyance is the re-registration required once a year, but no problem at all.
AVG is a pretty distant second place, but is servicable and hands above Norton or McAfee (which cost money!)
Thanks for the comments guys.. this will prove to be a very useful post for bloggers who are interested in getting some first hang opinions direct from other bloggers about anti-virus software. Nice work!
Does anyone have some opinions or experiences with Microsoft Live OneCare?

Also… it seems AGV and Norton are head to head. In my experience Norton slowed my system down… and it cost money, but its more popular. What if Norton was also free? What would you choose?
This definitely makes a good blog post. I was recently talking to a friends about what anti-virus they should get for their laptops. They all had a 60-day Norton trail, but what after that? I was just looking up reviews of free anti-virus software today, when I found this. Thanks again!
Btw, I’m a Linux user too so I don’t run any anti-virus. However I heard many good things about AVG. Also when I used to have Norton, and it terribly slowed things down to the point that the computer became unusable.
What do people think of ClamWin anti-virus? It comes free with the Ubuntu CD’s.
According to my opinion Best anti virus software is Kapersky Anti virus it has very good anti virus engine even detecting the patterns, which are not detectable by Norton anti virus
I have been using Norton 2005 for 2 years now . Though it is a bit heavy on resources , it does the job well .
Norton does the job nicely, but very heavy o resources and startup. AVG is also good one, I have used with good protection. Here in my office we use eTrust.
We’ve used Norton in the past, but my husband dowloaded AVG and that’s what we use right now. I like that the best. My computer is OLD and Norton seemed to give it problems.
I recently got a macbook and the guy at the Apple store said I wouldn’t need virus protection. So I don’t have any. Even though it makes me nervous! haha It’s hard to believe a computer can be made to not need protection and pc’s haven’t copied the method. But I guess a lot of anti-virus companies would lose money or cease to exist if they did.
Still, it’s hard to believe that I don’t need it. Every time my browser crashes I think it’s from a malicious reason and I should of gotten protection, when actually it’s probably from one of the dozens of add-ons.
But before I switched to Mac, I was running the free version of AVG on my Windows.
I almost bought an Apple, but stayed in my comfort zone. I have a Dell and overall its a great computer. But eventually I want to get an Apple.
It’s wild to hear that Linux users and Apple users don’t need antivirus software. Wow… is that really true?
I totally agree with everyone who reports that Norton is slow.
@ Nirmal,
I have used eTrust… I liked it a lot.
@ Laura,
I love the logo on your site… “Follow the yellow brick road”.. pretty cool!
Thanks Garry. Brian Aldrich from The Prize Blog designed it and gave it to me.

There are others out there, but these guys seem to have the best visitor satisfaction ratings.
Take care,
AVG all the way.
Stopped using Norton a couple years ago due to overhead and cost.
Norton slows my computer down so even if it were free I would still use AVG.
Kaspersky Anti-Virus is the best, in my opinion. I use it and I love it. Bought it a few months ago and am happier than can be. I think it is very user friendly and easy to navigate around in. Much better than anything I’ve used in the past including Norton, Mcafee, and many free ones.
Is anybody using NOD32? I sell it on my site, and I just got a email from em saying they were discontinuing it. Its like the #3 rated, Ive never heard of anyone using it though.
Kaspersky 6.0 is the best antivirus software. It’s the tool which uses minimum system resources.
