Are you looking for the best deals on the Dell Studio Hybrid? Just introduced into the market from Dell is the Dell Studio Hybrid desktop computer. From what I perceive, this is Dell’s way of marketing to the green market as this particular system sports very green friendly appealing colors and consumes very low power. By default when you think of a desktop computer, you attribute it to a bulky and very ugly case and tower that commonly goes underneath your desk. The Dell Studio Hybrid is different.

Dell wants you to show it off by placing it directly on your desk. The ports and cable connectors are all located and positioned for that. Dell mentions, “Our smallest desktop, it looks great in the living room, on the desk, or anywhere else space is at a premium. And because sleeves are available in 6 colors or Bamboo, you know it’ll match your sense of style.”

The Dell Studio Hybrid is actually made from laptop components such as the Intel Core 2 Due Mobile Processor and the entire system consumes about 70% less power than an average desktop computer system. The Dell Studio Hybrid meets the Energy Star 4.0 Standards with an 87% efficiency rating. From Dell, “More flexible than a typical PC, the Dell Studio Hybrid is an anywhere-you-want-it-desktop. Our smallest desktop, it looks great in the living room, on the desk, or anywhere else space is at a premium. And because sleeves are available in 6 colors or Bamboo, you know it’ll match your sense of style. Plus, it uses energy-efficient Intel® CoreTM 2 Duo Mobile Processors, so you can enjoy its power while helping to preserve the planet.”

The system spes include an Intel Pentium Dual Core or an Intel Core 2 Due processor. The Dell Studio Hybrid is available with The Genuine Windows Vista Home Basic, Home Premium or Ultimate Operating System. The system is capable of having up to 4 gigs of 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM. Dell mentions, “The amount of RAM you have determines how many programs can be executed at one time and how much data can be readily available to a program.” I would strongly recommend having a minimum of 2 gigs of memory on any Windows Vista system.

The Dell Studio Hybrid accepts up to a 320 gig serial ATA hard drive and consumers have the option of adding additional drives through the IEEE 1394 as well as the USB 2.0 ports. The graphics card used is the Intel Intergrated Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 and the audio is the Intel High Definition Audio 2.0 card with the option of having the Intergrated Sound Blaster Audigy Advanced HD Software.

Ordering direct from Dell the price starts at $499.00 which in my opinion isn’t too bad of a price for a computer. Dell has desktop computers starting around $299.00 but you do pay more for this newer and sleek design. Really, that is to be expected.

To me, it seems like it purchasing a laptop would be the better option. They are actually around the same price. With the Dell Studio Hybrid, it seems that you are paying laptop prices for a lower performing desktop computer just for the sake of being trendy. Dell mentions how “green” the Studio Hybrid is and indeed that is true. However, this system isn’t anymore “greener” than a common high performance laptop.

If I was in the market for a new computer, I would consider purchasing a laptop over a Dell Studio Hybrid because for the same price, you get the same computing power — if not more — and you have the level of portability plus you don’t have to worry about having to have external speakers and a clunky monitor. If I wasn’t a laptop fan and needed a desktop, I would indeed invest the money into a different desktop system such as the Inspiron.

For less money, you get more processing power and you don’t sacrifice performance using laptop parts. I understand the green movement; however, you also have to consider that using less power on a computer means you will spend more time on the computer which would then consume equal if not more amount of power compared to having a faster system that gets the job done much quicker.
