Blog Contest To Increase Traffic

With my latest contest proving to be a success for both myself and the winner, David Cooley, I have created another brand new contest. You will absolutely love this one! Being blog authors, we are always looking for excellent ways to increase our traffic and our reader base. My latest contest does this both for you as well as for myself! This is a contest that will increase your traffic as well as my traffic. Here is how it works:

Contest Description

most-recent-posts-contestThis contest is going to be a blast! I am offering to display your most recent articles on my sidebar. As we all know, most blogs syndicate their content. This gives other bloggers the ability to easily provide excellent sources of information to their own readers. Blog authors can easily with a click of a button display the titles of the most recent posts from any blog they want. Some blog programs, such as Wordpress, even include special widgets to do it. The end result is that the blog author who displays the external links enhances their site while the original blog author gains more traffic and links back to their blog. And in short, that is what makes RSS Syndication cool! And that is what will make this contest a total success! I want to display your most recent post titles and link them directly to your articles. The above image on the left is an example of what you will win! In this example (and live on the site) I am displaying the most recent posts from Aaron Wall’s SEO Blog and the most recent posts from Lisa Sabin-Wilson’s Amazon blog that promotes her brand new Wordpress For Dummies book that will be released this fall.

Contest Details

You are competing to win a premium sidebar placement of your most recent posts. The placement is site wide and above the top fold within my entire blog. Here is an actual screen shot of the position that is live on the site:

contest-screen-shot

Contest Rules

  • I will make a beautiful blending graphic which will replace the default one that says, “Win My Contest… Display Your Posts Here”. This graphic will blend your existing blog logo into my sidebar seamlessly. If I can’t use your existing graphic, I will make a brand new one.
  • I will be displaying your TEN most recent posts at all times. This is done by way of utilizing your blogs RSS syndication feature. As you write and publish new articles on your blog, they will instantly update on my blog.
  • Your most recent posts will be displayed for one month!
  • You must uphold content that is not offensive to others. Basic rules apply such as no profound language in your titles. I will have the final approval on displaying your syndicated post titles on my site.
  • If you win the contest but your content doesn’t meet my minimum quality standards, I will simply reward your winning with a $10 dollar Payment via PayPal.com.

How Do I Participate?

This is the easy part! My contest couldn’t be any easier to participate in. There is one thing I know about bloggers, we don’t have a lot of time to participate in contests. They are fun, challenging, etc… but time is always a factorization. I have considered this and made participating in the contest so simple it will make you silly!

Blog contests are typically designed to help other bloggers while helping yourself achieve a goal. I’ll be completely honest with you… I want more traffic! Who doesn’t? If you didn’t want more traffic, you wouldn’t be interested in this contest.

This contest is designed to give you more traffic and give myself more traffic. I am interested in having more traffic so that I can do what I do best: Convert Traffic Into Regular Readers. To participate, all you have to do is send me traffic. And this can be done by using my special link so that you can get credit for the hits.

In your blogroll, posts, link pages, etc… use my special link to send more people to my site. The more people you send to my site the more chance you have of winning. The special link is easy to use and its unique for everyone who wants to participate:

http://www.garryconn.com/?reader=yourname

Lets use my friend Kyle Eslick as an example:

http://www.garryconn.com/?reader=Kyle-Eslick

Kyle would create this link and add it to anywhere he wanted to try to get people to click. These clicks are tracked and if he sends me the most traffic, he will win!

* Kyle, if you participate, please use a different URL such as
/?reader=Kyles-Cove

  • The contest is going to run for about two weeks to a month. Depending on the number of people who are participating and how well the results are going will reflect the time frame of the contest.
  • The contest will run no later than Sept. 26th. 2007.
  • I will be using Google Analytics to track the amount of clicks being sent.
  • I will also comment frequently with updates and let you know which people are leading in the contest.

If you want to participate in the contest, drop me a comment below just to let me know that you are playing. Let me know what the special link is that you created. Again, you can create the link using this format:

http://www.garryconn.com/?reader=Your-Name

Use your name, your site name, it doesn’t matter. However, when you choose your special link, stick with it and don’t change the link.

If you should have any questions, please feel free to drop me a comment. I am here to answer any questions. Good luck, and remember to drop a comment if you would like to participate.

Where Do I Add The Link

Here are a few suggestions on places you can add the link. Be creative and add the special link in places that you think people will click. You can start playing immediately. Drop me a comment and let me know.

  • If you already have my blog in your blogroll, you can easily update it with the new URL.
  • If you don’t have my blog in your blogroll, add it using the your unique URL.
  • Do you need something to write about? You can write a post about my contest and ask your readers to help you win!
  • Submit your post to DIGG and include your special URL.
  • When you leave comments on other blogs sites, substitute your URL with the special URL that links here.
  • This is just a few creative ways you can get more clicks in order to win!

Oh! I Forgot To Mention!!!

This contest has a KICKER BONUS!!! In addition to having your most recent articles featured on my sidebar, I am also offering a money matrix! The money matrix is offered to the winner of the contest. The amount of money you win depends on the amount of traffic you send me. Here is the money matrix breakdown:

  • 1000 clicks = $10 dollars
  • 5000 clicks = $20 dollars

Don’t cheat. I am also logging IP addresses and I can easily detect to see if you are running an auto linker or clicking the link yourself. Cheaters will be removed from the contest without warning.

Good luck and have fun! Don’t forget to drop a comment and let me know you are playing. Also let me know the URL that you created for the contest.

Great contest and I would love to win BUT how is a smaller blogger supposed to compete with the bigger guys? There is no use participating if you are a beginning or smaller blog!

@ DayJobNuker,

I haven’t seen any big blogs sign up yet. Also, don’t sell yourself short man… I just visited your blog for the first time and I like it. You have some great things over there. Keep in mind, that your own traffic can play as big or as little of a part towards the success of the contest. There are many things you can do to gain a higher ranking in the contest. You will never know how well you do, unless you try! Good luck and let me know if you decide to participate.

@ Chritine,

Good luck Christine, I’ll keep everyone updated with the progress of the contest and also publish current standings and such. :)

@ DayJobNuker

You never know what you can do unless you try. Some of the best blogs I read are smaller blogs. There are many ways in which you can bring in new readers. Give it a shot, after all, we are all just small bloggers in a big cyberworld.

LOL… you know I am just joking with you. You and Christine are both great people. I am very happy to have you both in the contest.

P.S. Watch out for Kyle… he bites! :) BTW, if you haven’t been to his blog yet, check him out, he is one of my first blogger buddies I met when I started blogging. Very cool guy and I think K-InTheHouse will vouch for that too… but Kyle pays him to say good things.. so I guess that doesn’t count.

Ahh… what’s wrong with me… I am stirring up all kinds of trash talk. I guess I am ruffling some feathers a little bit! LOL!!

Thanks for playing guys… I hope to deliver some more competition to you all!

Hi Gary - thank you very much for the spotlight on my Amazon Blog for WordPress For Dummies - that was a pleasant surprise. I did get your email, by the way - - just got back from vacation today, however.. so I’m playing a bit of catch up. I’ll get back to you in a day or so about your questions.

Thanks - and have a good one!

@ Lisa,

Hey you! Nice of you to drop by and real nice to meet you.

(Everyone, this is Lisa Sabin-Wilson… she is the author of a great book coming out this fall titled, Wordpress For Dummies)

I look forward to receiving your email. I would love to help market the book. The blogosphere needs something just like this. I can’t wait for it to hit the book shelves.

@ DayJobNuker

But let me make something clear. This feels like I am working for you! My whole purpose is to Nuke My Day Job, not work for you too!

I am sorry to hear that is how you feel. See the truth of the matter is the other way around. I am working for the ones who are participating. And in all honest, this contest is really designed for people who read my blog on a regular basis as I am direct friends with my readers. The contest is a great way to expand my reader base and a great way to expand yours within my blog. You’re not working for me… I am not “The Man” lol! I am looking to expand my readership and you should be too. This contest isn’t for everyone. I don’t think it is something that you will be interested in. Nor, am I interested in you participating. Sorry. :)

This contest, my blog, my readers, etc.. all harvest positive energy. I don’t want to bring spirits down. I don’t want to make people feel bad. I am not sure, but somehow I must have rubbed you the wrong way? Cheer up man… you seem like you have a big chip on your shoulder.

Wow! Did you ever misread my post. I guess that is what is wrong with the written word. If we had been speaking in person then surely you would have understood. Even then if you didn’t understand then I could have quickly clarified.

Please read my post again carefully. Mabybe I should have taken the time to word it more carefully but what can I do. Too late now. I was making a play off my name and the purpose of my blog which is to nuke my job. I know some people are going to WORK very hard at winning this contest and thus I made the reference of WORKING for you. Seiously, the winner of this contest will work VERY hard to win such as posting in forums and what not. That IS hard work. I hope you understand I was trying to make a joke.

I like your blog and you have not rubbed me the wrong way. I do not have a chip on my shoulder but I will bow out of this contest.

Keep up the great work, and I wish you the best.

Everyone, its not too late to join in. The contest just begun and you have around two to four weeks to play. The contest will end no later than the 26th of Sept. Good luck to everyone who participates. :)

DayJobNuker,

Yes. You are terribly correct. Text based communication at times drives me up the wall. Please accept my apologies! :) I clearly misinterpereted your comment. Reflecting back… I think it was “Me” that got rubbed the wrong way. Sorry man, we all make mistakes sometimes. How embarrassing! But you know what, it wouldn’t make for a bad idea for an article. Talk to you soon and sorry again. :) Feel free to play… I honestly, think that you are underestimating your pull on your site. Either way, I am very happy to have you as a reader… and ultimately that is what is most important to me.

Tay… awesome to have you here. Thank you so much. I totally love new readers and new faces. Mark is a great guy, very hard worker and someone I am proud to be a blogger friend with. Talk to you soon… and thanks again for your comment. :)

You are never too late. Thanks for joining. Also… this URL is your unique url connection to my blog. It will be used in future contest. You should always use this URL to link to my blog. Eventually, the URL will become very powerful for yourself as well as for me. Take a look at this:

My reader’s unique URLs are getting indexed in the search engines. So what does that mean? Well… it means when people are searching the search engines for random things, your link may pull up in the SERPs. And when someone clicks on the link, you get credit for it towards the current contest that is taking place. This URL is yours, you will use it for the current as well as future contest. I would add this link to anywhere you would normally link to me, such as in your blogroll or when you mention me or my blog in your posts, etc..
