BloggersBase.com – A Citizen Journalism Magazine Powered by Bloggers
I’d like to share a site I discovered, that I think is a wonderful resource on the Internet. The site is called BloggersBase.com, and it’s a magazine styled community for bloggers and readers alike. What’s cool about this site is that everyone gets to vote on the best posts. This way, the stuff that readers find to be the most useful, interesting, and riveting, get more exposure. In this way, everyone has a fair shot at getting noticed.
Another cool thing about this site is that they have an active competition going on for all bloggers. In order to become an author in any of the categories, your articles must be among the highest rated “nuggets”. Anyone can post a nugget in a certain category, but in order to become an active author of that category, the readers must vote you in. Blog competitions run for a set amount of time, called a “Time slot”, and the people who get the most votes will be category authors in the next round. The thing is that even if you’re an author during one time slot, you may not be in the next round. If you’re work is among the lower rated posts, you go back into the contenders slot.
The site is also set up so that users can post articles or videos. Plus, you can either publish posts right on the site, or opt in for the RSS-in feed and add a post from your own blog. The thing is that if you choose this option, you’ve got to allow your entire feed to be seen, not just the shortened version. BloggersBase.com also awards special prizes and money to their most talented and most productive users. Each week, one blogger will win $40 to their top co-author, and $10 to the person in second place. There are other ways of winning prizes, and all money is sent via PayPal.
BloggersBase.com also offers an affiliate program for their members. You can earn money and/or prizes whenever someone who has signed up through your link earns one of the top spots and wins one of the competitions. In other words, when one of your referred members win, so do you.
The main purpose for all of this is to showcase posts of the highest quality. Rather than spending hours sifting through thousands of blog posts, looking for a choice few, here the reader gets to decide what’s good and what’s not. In the end, the entire community helps put together a magazine that offers top quality articles throughout the site.
BloggersBase.com is a relatively new company, but they have already had a few of their writers hit the front page of Google. This gives the blogger a better chance of exposure, not just within the site, but throughout the entire Internet. With everyone always asking about ways of getting their work ranked higher in Google, this is a way to get your work seen by readers on the site, as well as getting ranked in the SERPs.
So, go check out the BloggersBase.com website and see about getting your own work added to the list. With weekly prizes and an on-going competition, there is a good chance that you could end up being one of the main co-authors in the category of your choice.

Wow, great article. I think that’s one of the best reviews you’ve ever done.
Social voting always fails in my opinion, look at all the trash that is on the front page of Digg or any other social network. That is the unfortunate result of stupid people.
I see they already have influential people listed in their sidebar…..bad idea. Voting sites should never have users and should never reveal who voted for what. It would keep things way more balanced seeing as how people with more influence typically get followed more and are able to actually control what gets voted up and what doesn’t.
It’s a good concept just like all the other voting sites, just poorly applied and in my opinion not even worth spending time on.
Thanks Christine… what can I say, I had a ghost floating around my head helping me with the words.
While I do believe that Digg has some moderate issues of corruption, also too I think we should consider our blog topic in relation to what is mainstream on Digg. Most of our content tends to get shot down because, we as bloggers within a few selected niches, try to force feed our content onto the Digg community.
While I do agree, that most all voting systems are susceptible to being gamed, I think BloggersBase.com has a lot of potential simply for the fact that the foundation of their operation depends on Bloggers rather than shuns bloggers like many of the other social networks do.
I respect your opinion, but I have to disagree. I am a member of this site and I think the people behind it are doing everything in their power to make this site work. It is a new site, and there are going to be a few bugs that need to be worked out. However, there are a lot of people out there who are trying very hard to become respected writers, and it’s sites like BloggersBase that help unknown writers get noticed.
I also don’t think it’s fair to automatically shoot this site down without taking the time to thoroughly check it out. It wouldn’t be fair for someone to automatically assume something about you without taking the time to get to know you, and it’s the same for sites such as this one.
I have had a very positive experience with this site so far, and have already made a few friends. I’m very happy with the competition part of this site, and the way it’s set up. I’m happy that I have the opportunity to be part of something so new.
Interesting article Garry! I am always looking to see how sites like these are doing. I thought about launching one myself with revenue share, users can place affiliate links, and readers and other authors can vote on the articles. Maybe its to late for a new site like this.
Always looking forward to your articles!
This is a very interesting concept. I wonder if it will gain some steam in the blogosphere. Hopefully it does because we need something like this
The website is interesting, I will give it a check.
Thanks
With such passionate views from both Garry and Christine, I have no choice but to check it out.
this is a great article with the correct intentions to help reward all the bloggers out there. this is bookmarked for me to check out when i get home.
Wow, I kinda like the idea of this. Sort of a Digg for blogs and bloggers. Makes for an interesting idea and if it gets large enough could certainly serve to drive some traffic to the sites that make it to the top!
It sounds very interesting and the concept is pretty unique and refreshing. I’m checking it out now.
