You are all set. The subscription is $5 dollars per month and I have it set up to extend the first month for free. There is nothing to do or nothing to have to remember. When you don't want you avatar displayed on the Top Page Ads section anymore, you simply cancel the subscription. It is good that you got in when you did. People that lock in on the $5 dollar per month subscription are locked in at that rate. Meaning, if I bump the price higher (which I intend to do) everyone that has already signed up at the $5 dollar rate, STAY at the $5 dollar rate.
