David Cooley aka Cyber Coder Is Jealous

I really am enjoying my new blog… I can blog about anything I want! Granted, I do like blogging about Making Money Online tips and tricks as well as general WordPress Tips and SEO Tips. However; having finally said, “Screw it” this is my blog… I can do what I want… I have the newly found freedom of being able to write what I want again… and that, my friends, makes me happy. If I am a happy blogger I can do my happy blogging job much better.

With that being said, I have to share a funny email that my friend David sent me… Apparently he is jealous that Chris Pirillo, Christine Senter, as well as Thor Schrock have made it to my Tag Cloud!

Poor guy…

Well, David… this one is for you buddy!!!

You’re on your way towards being a star on Garry Conn’s Tag Cloud!

Yeah !! I feel like Steve Martin in the “Jerk”, I am somebody now, ROFL. I have always had my head in the clouds, so it is only fitting I am in a Tag Cloud. Thanks, Garry, didn’t think you would actually post that…..Keep having fun, it makes the world a much better place.

Well, at least you have a tag cloud. I’m still working my way through over a thousand posts and putting on tags and it’s a long process. I won’t put up a tag cloud until I’m through.

@ David,

I knew you would love it!!!

@ RT,

Man… don’t worry about it… Let your freak flag fly and get that tag cloud published… I have over 300 posts that I need to add tags to, but for now all new content have tags and the cloud is looking very nice. Go back and add tags to about 5 of your posts per day, eventually you’ll get it knocked out. :)

There is one thing for sure… don’t cheat yourself or your readers because you haven’t tagged all your posts yet… A small tag cloud is better than NO tag cloud. :)

Okay, I did it, but EGADS! The default tag cloud widget looks horrible. I’ll have to find something else.

5 Garry Conn { 12.11.07 at 3:13 pm }

Why does it look horrible. I think it looks fine… It’s cloud, what is it supposed to look like? :)

Although if you want to sort your stuff from most popular (BIG) down to least popular (SMALL) you can use this code…

Assuming you are WP 2.31:

<p><?php wp_tag_cloud(’smallest=8&largest=22&number=30&orderby=count&order=DESC’); ?></p>

Just in case that code is screwed up being mixed with HTML..

Check out THIS PAGE to learn all about the new WP 2.3.1 Tag Cloud.

The html is okay, but I’ll still check out the link. I say horrible because I spent a lot of time with the CSS and padding and so forth. The default widget doesn’t follow the styling, so I’ll be using the cloud within a custom widget. Thanks!

Don’t use the widget… you are to the point where you have outgrown them… Widgets are for people who don’t want to hassle with hard coding things in. However, based off what you are explaining to me, you are now seeing the limitations of using the widgets.

Hard code that into your sidebar.php and wrap it with the proper div tags you have styled in your CSS and you should be fine.

I don’t use widget anymore… everything you see here on GCDC as well as most all of my other blogs are all hard coded.

BTW, your blog looks real nice… I can see how you put a lot of time and effort into its appearance. :)

Thanks. I’m using widgets because FTP’ing changes from here is difficult — DSL connectivity being bad for hours per day. Besides, I figured them out and even wrote one of my own. Prior to that, it was all hard coded (still there in the sidebar.php file), but I kind of like being able to move things without having to deal with the FTP problems.

That is, of course, until I’m able to change providers (crossing my fingers for January).

You don’t have to use FTP to hardcode things into your theme. Simply use your Theme Editor.

Wow, I didn’t even know I had made it into your tag cloud. I think my head’s in the clouds worse than David’s is. LOL

13 Garry Conn { 12.11.07 at 4:00 pm }

Man… a lot of cloudy heads today! :)

LOL!!!!

Joking…

14 Christine Senter { 12.11.07 at 4:04 pm }

It’s only because of the cloudy weather we’ve got going on right now. LOL

15 Garry Conn { 12.11.07 at 4:43 pm }

Oh man… speaking of weather… it was 76′ today… made for a record breaker! It was sunny and very beautiful today!

16 Christine Senter { 12.11.07 at 4:55 pm }

Want some snow???? Our kids were sent home early because we now have over 8 inches of snow on the ground. We have plenty to share, so I’ll throw some in an envelope and send it over.

Ha Ha!!

No thanks…. had enough of that when we lived in Chicago for 4 years. Snow = Cold which = Yuck! :)
