Getting new carpet installed into your home or home office can be quite expensive if you don’t call around and ask for prices. Commonly people will use large retail chains such as Lowes or even Home Depot simply for the fact that they are most memorable due to fact that they heavily advertise on television, newspaper, and the Internet.

Recently I had a new home office built and I required carpet. I had checked the prices of carpet and the installation services offered from some of the more common retailers and then checked the prices from some of the smaller local businesses within my town and was amazed to see how significant the prices differed.

Lowes and Home Depot heavily advertise a $99 – $139 carpet installation service; however, the promotion is actually quite misleading and in fact when I called them to drill down some questions, they were even more evasive towards giving me details. Finally after about 5 minutes of what seemed like me conducting an interrogation I then discovered that it would cost close to $1100 dollars to have carpet ordered and installed into my home office.

On the flip side, the prices when dealing with a local business was much less. The carpet I ordered was on clearance for $125 dollars and the installation would have cost $350 dollars if I had chosen to use them. Much of the work in my home office was actually done by myself and my brother, but had I decided to have the installation done by the local business I would still have saved over $600 dollars.

So if you are looking to get the best deals on carpet installation, I would strongly recommend checking the prices of the major retail chains first and bookmark them. From there, start drilling down into finding prices offered by local businesses. Rather than just randomly pick businesses out of the Yellow Pages, you can actually use Google Local to find an excellent business.

Google Local not only includes contact information but also offers business reviews. After you do business with someone locally, it would be a good idea to help others by offering your review of them as well.
