Display The Content and Links That Are Important
With blogs it can be difficult for you to showcase the topics and posts you have written in the past that may be important to you. When visitors come to your blog for the first time, they come with a purpose in mind. Either they find you in the search engines or from a link found on another blog or web site. In many cases, you’ll get hits from many places on your blog. Some common places where you get hits from would include you home page, a frequently updated category page or even a popular tag page.
No matter where you get hits from, it is important for you to showcase other links to content or sections that are important to you. There are many ways of doing this. Some can be automatic by using various WordPress Plugins and others can be manual such as hard coding section of links and references in your sidebar template file.
How Do I Showcase The Things That Are Important?
The easiest way to showcase the things that are important to you would be to find some plugins that allow you to quickly display links to previously written posts and links to popular sections on your blog. Here are two suggestions, but please feel free to search and expand on this because there are almost limitless options on how you can build, shape and mold your blog. Both of these examples are very simple solutions.
Alex King’s Popularity Contest
This is a really neat WordPress plugin that allows you to, or rather your readers determine what your most popular posts are on your blog. From there you have the option of displaying the links of these posts on your sidebar so new readers can quickly access them.
The way I see it is majority rules. So, if the majority of your readers in the past have felt certain posts are worthy you should trust that and give these previously written articles more exposure for newer readers.

Display Your Tag Cloud
If you don’t tag your posts, then you need to start. Also, you should go back through your older posts and either tag, or consider re-tagging them for improved relevancy. Tagging is very important as it allow users a very easy way to find information that interests them.
If you have been tagging your posts, then you should display a Tag Cloud somewhere on your blog. A lot of people display mini-tag clouds that show around 15 to 20 of their most popular tags on their sidebar. Another option is to create a separate tag cloud page where you can display most all of your tags.
If you are using a more modern version of WordPress, then adding a tag cloud to your sidebar is very easy. You can do this in your sidebar widgets section simply by dragging and dropping a tag module.

I’m not sure if a tag cloud is a good indicator of what’s important on a blog. The cloud shows what’s tags are more or less prominent on the blog, that’s all. Well, it also show blog’s general profile, that is what the blog is about.

I agree with the above, the tag cloud isn’t as much of a reader choice as the popularity contest is. I guess it can show your readers what you talk about a lot, but, if one doesn’t have a proper tagging system or method…it could mess you up.
I like the tips though, I’m always looking for ways to improve navigation. What about aLinks, do you think that would fall into this topic? Seeing as how you can use the deep blog feature to link to other posts by keyword? Or even whole categories or tag pages.
