Apart from Twitter and Blogengage I don't bother to submit my own posts as I found most of these sites frown on it. I have all the links on my posts for those who would like to vote for me. It sort of means a lot more to me if someone actually voted because they liked the post and not because I asked them to.

I used to use delicious a lot, and then started saving some things in tumblr. A few months ago, however, I was at the Thin Air Summit and another delegate mentioned that as bloggers, we always want people to stumble or digg or forward our content.. yet in many cases we neglect to do it ourselves. That really was a wake-up call for me.

Now I use stumbleupon all the time, basically as my own bookmarking. I've had a few acquaintances tell me they've seen great traffic as a result of my stumbling their content, which is fantastic! So yes, I do it frequently, just as a nod to an author that I like their stuff.

Not as much as i should, but that will change a lot in the new year.

For all those that share there own a lot and no one elses; stop. All you're doing is looking like a spammer to others and will eventually be banned by certain networks.

I don't do it often but I do it sometimes if the content really interests me and I think it needs to be shared. I do it more often if there is a button already there for me to click and share my vote on certain networks.

I used to stumble and digg some of my post when I first started, but I rarely do it anymore.
If I really like a post and it is easy to bookmark that post into a social network I will do it, but it has to be easily available because most of the time I will not go out of my way to do it.

There are so many different ways of getting the word out in social networks that it can be overwhelming getting tons of voting requests. Usually if I like content, I'll vote for it on my own. Odds are if I am friends with you, I'm already reading your content and voting/stumbling it, etc if I like it!

I used to submit my own stuff and did not really get any returns. I have recently changed my strategy and started providing value in my social media profiles.

As I already read lots of stuff in my RSS, I take the time to send/rate the article in Stumble, Digg, Twitter as well. I keep it focused to my interests, and as in your case, my interests are very close to what I blog about.

I find this way working very well, and I regularly get in touch with new people who are interested in similar things as they like my stumbles etc, and this shows in the traffic I get as it is much more targeted than the usual social media traffic.

By the way, I've "discovered" your article in Stumble!

My honest answers:

- my natural submission to social networks is nearly zero. Although i use to signalize in comments or pm links that might be interesting to persons i care (like the Steve Pavlina posts the other day)

- i submit artificially my own posts to social networks. Up to now i've done that mainly with my italian niche blogs. I've done it also with my italian flagship blog, but lately i've discontinued that practice. I've to say tough that it brings in some decent amount of traffic, even after months.

- i very rarely ask for voting. I can count the times on one hand.

ciao

Morning G man, hows it going?,
I generally dont share my own stuff on social networks. But in looking at my stats. I see others do. Which is a good thing. I have no idea what the quality of these sharing peoples social networks are. But I do find the traffic patterns interesting, where they go, where they came from and where the left from. Im not a tweeter and dont think Im going to be, Id be interested to here about twit traffic from others. I do get good traffic from facebook. I havent really set my stuuf up to track the traffic from social netwirks to really have a clear pic of the conversions or lack there of. But as I said the traffic patterns are interesting, other than the tire kicking crowd that is. I do personally find organic converts very well. But like I said I'm not really tracking converts from social networks. I do share other stuff I find myself and I havent really solicited other to do it. But Im not an attention getter and dont seek it really. I like to let it roll and let the content speak for itself.
Did I mention I got a dog? Yeah I did. nutty here now !!!
Have a good one dude
