From time to time I visit GoDaddy.com to shop around for domain names. Usually, I buy the domain names, but today instead of buying the domain names I like, I have made a list of them below so you can buy them instead!

Now that’s not funny. I have made it a week without buying a Domain Name and here you go stirring up the fire. Not funny man. I am not going to buy a domain today…I am not going to buy a domain today….especially BUYERSGUIDEREVIEW.COM….I am not going to…be right back…..

You think this is difficult for you? PlanYourVacation.com looks pretty tempting!
I want to plan my vacation… lol
… wow you really did snag BuyersGuideReview.com, it no longer available.
… thats way cool, you are pointing it to ProductReviewsBlog.com. Nice work David, very smart idea!

Sorry, had to run an errand. Strangest thing happened, like the cookies in the grocery store that leap into the basket, I found this domain name in my cart.
buyersguidereview.com…

Oops!!! I can’t tell you how much money I have wasted in the past purchasing mis-spelled domain names. I am laughing my ass off… look at my post:
(PLANE)YourVacation.com < — LOL!!! I guess I had airplanes on my mind, go figure!
Date/Time: 10-30-2007 12:39:12 Comment #6126
This is the exact reason I have to stop myself from going and searching to see what I may find. My window shopping technique never works. Its just too easy to go in and grab a couple. Usually when its time to renew a domain I end up having to renew 2 the following year.
Date/Time: 10-30-2007 13:06:44 Comment #6132
Jason I know the feeling all to well.
Luckily most of mine are at a minimum set up on WordPress and have a few posts on them and score enough dough to pay the the annual cost and more.
Date/Time: 10-30-2007 13:30:00 Comment #6130
good post. i think the Internet is ready for a new TLD of .blog
- what say? also, some of the suggestions you have listed will probably not do well as blogs but as a directory. a blog is more interactive like a forum of sorts and some of the subjects / domains will not have the blog type of potential.
Date/Time: 10-30-2007 13:48:46 Comment #6134
Vishal,
Man that would be awesome! What a wonderful thought and idea. Ok, so how do we start the TLD? I am totally game.
I got…
Garry.blog
money.blog
blog.blog
web.blog
search.blog
makemoney.blog
tips.blog
a.blog
… lol, the list goes on and on… I would honestly buy .blog domains! Why not?
A little bit off topic, but I have to say that I am very pleased with the PR update. Within one hour of writing this post, its already indexed in Google.
Man… thanks a lot Google, you guys are awesome!

Date/Time: 10-30-2007 13:56:56 Comment #6137
What great tips…I think you are right though that a money making blog shouldn’t be on a free hosting site. That does look kinda tacky. Thanks for these tips!!

Oh yea I’m in on that. I just want milliondollar.blog Everyone come and post an article for $1 limited to just the first 1 million entries. Has anything like that ever been done? HA HA

I went to update my Domain Name sheet, and realized I have been slacking, I have several names I bought in the last 60 days I need to work on, lol.
Date/Time: 10-30-2007 14:09:55 Comment #6140
David,
A lot of people buy domain names and then do the sedo domain name parking. I really feel that if you are going to buy a domain name but sit on the project for awhile, just take an extra hour, set up WordPress and write a few posts and monetize it. I am sure that sucker would make quite a bit of money annually. Even if it only made $50 bucks… who cares?
Date/Time: 10-30-2007 14:19:00 Comment #6141
GREAT post Garry!
I’ve been doing some domain shopping this past month as I try to branch out a little bit.
Now that I’ve got 5 blogs up and 3 of them running, I’ve made a habit of going to GoDaddy everyday and just doing some shopping for anything interesting. As I’ve talked about before on my site, I will only buy dot com domains, but to each their own
I think it is great you did this and hope you choose to do this again in the future.
Date/Time: 10-30-2007 14:45:37 Comment #6142
Although I have used Sedo and several others, I have seen better results with patience. I tried Parking, and I tried slapping together something. Then I did something totally out of the box, I did nothing. Buy a name let it sit for 60-90 days and it seemed to stabilize faster, the results also change depending on how I set the site up, as a blog or as a website.
Date/Time: 10-30-2007 15:20:45 Comment #6143
@ Taylor Blue,
Is this the site you are referring to? If so, then I would just rock and roll with it man. Its a PR4 its on Blogger, you can use Adsense and other programs… and it seem to be working for you. I would leave it alone and start another blog.
@ Kyle,
Thanks for the encouragement buddy! It is a lot of fun to do these posts… I joke around and say its frustrating to let all these domain names go, but honestly, I think it would be cool to see people snag some of these domain names and retire early because of them.
@ David,
Are you saying when you purchase a domain name just to leave it alone and point it nowhere? In a way that makes sense… talk more about that. I am interested in learning more about that strategy.
Date/Time: 10-30-2007 15:51:48 Comment #6145
Thanks Gary…I”m a dudette!! But thanks for the encouragement. I have been thinking of moving it to a dot com but not sure if I should change the name…you made me feel lots better.
Date/Time: 10-30-2007 15:55:24 Comment #6147
Opps…I am so sorry about the dudette!!!
I have to sit back and think about what I would do if I were in your position. I know for a fact that a Blogger.com blog can be monetized just like any other blog. You’re in a better position than if you have a WordPress.com blog (the free one) where you’re not allowed to monetize it. I believe Blogger.com allows you to get your own domain name, but it might be tricky with re-directing you link juice, PR establishment, etc… without losing it.
How is your traffic? What kind of people do you attract to the site? What are your goals with this site? Are you looking to make money from it or are you looking for popularity? I would love to learn more and I will be happy to help you. Shoot me another comment or I also invite you to email or IM me. GarryConn [@] Gmail.com
Date/Time: 10-30-2007 15:57:43 Comment #6146
maybe I’m the one who is slow but I think I’ve just learnt something new here.it is hard setting up a new site from scratch especially if I want to monetise it immeadiatly.
can you lead me to where I can buy good domain names with pr and especially were blogs?
i only need 3 so I can work on my online project.

@ Tony,
You can speak with me about established domain names. I have quite a few and in the past I have worked out some really nice deals for bloggers. Tell me more about what you are looking to do and lets see if I can provide some solutions for you. You can contact me directly if you like either by email or IM at GarryConn [@] Gmail.com.
Date/Time: 10-30-2007 16:08:12 Comment #6149
Damn you Gary Conn! I have managed to stay away from BustAName.com for over a month… until today. You’ve got me shopping again… GRRR!
Date/Time: 10-30-2007 16:10:37 Comment #6150
Ha Ha!!! Its a pleasure sharing my pain with you!
Hey, shoot me a comment and let me know if you get any of the above names and I’ll update the post and provide a direct link to your new site(s). If fact, if any of the above names inspired you to get something similar, I can even write, “This Domain Name inspired Ad Tracker to get…. yourname.com, etc… ”
Date/Time: 10-30-2007 17:15:32 Comment #6152
that is so nice of you to be willing to help!!! I’ll send you an email STAT!

Taylor I got your email, jump on YIM and I’ll speak with you in a bit.
Date/Time: 10-30-2007 19:03:54 Comment #6155
Garry, Yes that is exactly what I was saying. I have bought more domains than I can work on at one time. I used to park them and that did not really do anything for me. I can register, setup and have a domain live and in the Google Index in a couple of days, but unless I have a good amount of content to start with it seems I get better results just waiting and letting the domain sit.
Date/Time: 10-30-2007 19:09:14 Comment #6156
David,
Do you think it does harm to have a domain site live with out much content? I can understand how if you run a domain name in a blog format that there could be some concerns with that. However, if you were to launch a one page domain name web site, I am curious if that would be a great means for establishing the site compared to just keeping the domain name off line for a few months prior as you are mentioning.
Date/Time: 10-30-2007 19:29:53 Comment #6157
Way to go, Garry. You’re the only person I know who can start a virtual stampede. LOL
I’m not a big domain name buyer, but every time you post one of these articles, I get an urge, kinda like a gambler passing by Vegas.
@ Dave,
I envy you the ability to sit on a domain. I get itchy if I can’t get a new domain up and running the day I buy it. LOL
@ Tony,
)
I can guarantee you that Garry makes some neat deals for pre-established domains. Also, he’s always true to his word. If he says he’s going to do something, he’ll do it.
Date/Time: 10-30-2007 19:38:41 Comment #6158
Garry, I think you have to think of the search engines, bots and crawlers in terms of training. If you launch a site in a blog format, they expect to see some movement, if you then let it sit you have just trained them not to trust you. If you launch a one page web site with no leaf pages, it can be the same result. However, by just letting a domain sit, what harm is there, except that the domain is aging? So I think just putting something out there is a lot worse than putting nothing out there.

@ Christine,
Ah Sucks!
< <– edit: lol @ Christine …. “Ah SHUCKS!!!

@ David,
Well said man… If you can’t roll out the project, its best to leave it off line. I am totally in the business of “robot” training, so this does make sense!
Date/Time: 10-30-2007 20:08:14 Comment #6162
Well, they might have until you forgot to put the “H” in shucks. Now, they’re going to think my comment “sucks”. LOLOLOL
Date/Time: 10-30-2007 20:09:13 Comment #6163
@David and Garry
The older a domain name is, the more ‘authority’ it gets. Even if it is just a one- or two page site. Google also looks at the age of a domain name and its website when ranking them in the SERPs.
One of our local competitors ranks higher than we do for a specific search phrase. If you look at all aspects governing those specific SERPs we outrank them in every way, except for two: domain name (they have part of the phrase in their domain name, the reason why the above domain names are so interesting) and, more importantly, age (their website is 5 years old and ours has its first anniversary coming up).
Even though their site is cr*p in SEO terms their site ranks higher than ours and that just eats me up!
Btw: one of the reasons a good domain name helps SEO is that the link text of most links to your website will use your url. This means that if you have the domain name makingmoneyonline.com, many of the links to your website will be keyword rich. So, in that respect, websites with domain names like dgfmedia.net or garryconn.com will have to make more of an effort to get keyword rich links texts.

I was using this tool called register compass to find expired domains, expiring domains and auction domains based on keywords I wanted. I found one that fit into my dating blog niche that is ranked on page one of Google for a very big keyword and the site has over 5000 unique s a month. I have to wait until Monday before I can bid on it but so far its between me and one other guy. I doubt I will get it though because I am not willing to spend much to buy it. It would be cool though.

I listened to a webinar one day, and the speaker suggested URL with ca call to action; kind of like Joel Comm’s last book. Before I knew it I bought a click-here.coms; like click-heremakemoney.com, click-herecreditcards.com…the idea is they have the call to action plus the keywords. Was that dumb?
