Female Bloggers Search Engine Marketing and Sex

Female bloggers, search engine marketing and sex… do the three go hand in hand? Not really… but in this article I talk about these topics and how all three can get you more traffic to your blog.

Attached below is a screen shot of an email submitted in by a reader. If it is hard to read, simply click on it to view the full size:

cardiogirl

There is a lot to address is this email that can help not only CardioGirl but all my readers as well. So let me quickly knock out a few things.

First off, regarding using your FeedBurner address in the comments of other blogs instead of using the URL of your blog… I have one thing that I want to address with my readers about that.

cardiogirl2

If you do decide to do this form in marketing, I do think that the odds of you increasing your FeedBurner numbers are in your favor. However, this can also have negative effects too. If you do decide to use your FeedBurner URL in comment forms in stead of your blog URL, then I would suggest taking advantage of all the options in your FeedBurner account to make your feed look pretty and attractive to the people that are clicking in. The above screen shot is an example of what a standard FeedBurner feed looks like in the FireFox web browser. It looks pretty much the same in Internet Explorer. Below is a screen shot of a FeedBurner URL using the BrowserFriendly feature, see the difference?

Making your FeedBurner more attractive to readers and using BrowserFriendly is easy, here is a screen shot that shows you where these options are located in your account:

Why Do FeedBurner Subscription Numbers Dip?

Feedburner numbers drop and increase day to day because it counts how many people have read your content within FeedBurner within a 24 hour period. If you are like me and want more consistent numbers, start promoting your email notification service. The email notification service counts each subscriber daily regardless if they read it or not. If you have 1000 email subscribers, then your chicklet will reflect the 1000 readers plus any RSS readers you had in a 24 hour period.

john-chow-rss

John Chow actually covered this topic very well about back in Nov. 2007. Please read this post here. John is a very smart guy and you can learn a lot from him, my only issue is having to deal with reading about lobster dinners and things that don’t really help me pay the bills.

CardioGirl is interested in a new way of marketing herself. She said in the email that overall traffic is low, no PageRank and long story short, her blog is the best kept secret on the Internet as many other blogs are too. So lets try to fix that for her as well as many of my readers, especially the female ones.

As my title suggests, I have some interesting observations that I want to share with you about female bloggers. I am sorry to say, and I am not sexist, but out of the box, female bloggers have more potential to get traffic compared to male bloggers.

Men typically are pigs and constantly think about sex. Many visual things cause men to be reminded about sex. And in the world of blogging, men are attracted to blogs written by female authors. Why? Because it stimulates sexual desire. I didn’t make man, God did… I am a guy too, but I am smart enough to analyse and recognize the natural tendencies of men. Male bloggers tend to read and follow female bloggers.

I am not sure if this is the type of attention you want; however, I am a firm believer that “Bad breath is better than no breath at all”, meaning… having girl crazy blogger traffic is better than no traffic at all.

Capitalizing on this gender angle, a female blogger can do a lot of little things that bring in a huge flow of traffic. Here are a few suggestions:

  • Join Social Media Networks. MyBlogLog is just one example, but a good one, so I’ll mention it here. MyBlogLog is so HOT that even guys fake it and use sexy female avatars to represent their community just for the purpose of attracting more visitors. If you are a female member of MyBlogLog, you have HUGE potential to flood traffic to your blog.
  • Paint a Sexy Picture. Make your blog more appealing and attractive. Use pinks and pastels and make your blog look girly. A lot of ladies wear make up to enhance their physical appearance. The same applies to your blog… give your blog a little eyeliner and show a little leg. :)

Now for CardioGirl and other female bloggers, I am not saying make yourself appear like an easy chick or anything like that. All I am saying is that there is a market that takes advantage of idiot guys who drool about sex. If you want to capitalize on that market, it is pretty easy to do so. Taking advantage of idiot men can make you money online! A lot of men are pretty stupid creatures and use their little brain to operate their lives compared to using their big brain located within their skull.

Ok, moving on to search engine marketing. This isn’t really gender specific and applies to all bloggers. I had a Gmail Talk conversation a few nights ago with Fred Peters who owns a site titled, Newest on The Net:

fred-peters-im

newest-on-the-net

Fred Peters has started a new blog that targets the golfing niche. This is a very excellent choice market for the fact that the type of audience that is attracted to blogs like this don’t really know too much about making money online, nor do they have an interest in this market. They just want to learn how to play golf better and buy things that will help improve their game.

ping-golf-clubs

Fred and I exchanged a lot of information; however, one of the main things he wanted my insight on was how to gain more search engine traffic. His question is a pretty common question that many other people want to know too. So here is a tip that will help you increase your search engine traffic.

Post Titles: How you word and title your post is VERY important. Here is the thing about social blogs. The trend is pretty standard and the result is unfortunate. When a blog author publishes a new article on their blog, this article is visible on the home page of their blog. Secondly, all the RSS subscribers get a copy in their RSS reader and email subscribers get their copy via email. Once a new blog article is read and consumed by all the social subscribers and readers it quickly dies on the vine and gets buried in the blog archives.

It doesn’t have to be like that! If you were to carefully title your posts in a way that appeared more attractive to search engine users, you can get a steady “second life” of traffic to these socially “DEAD” articles. Again, once your content is buried by newer content, you basically sentence your older stuff to a “Death Sentence”. Let me show you a few examples:

diet-facebook-applications

Fred wrote a post titled, “My Diet Facebook Application“. Fred has a readership of close to 300 people. Once these 300 readers consume this article and once this article drops off his home page it will hit the “Blog Archive Graveyard” and will never get read again.

But wait… that isn’t true in this case! Why? Because Fred titled his post in a way that will enable him to gain traffic from search engines by using a logical keyword phrase for his title that commonly can be searched for in Google. Here is an example, click to view full size:

diet-facebook-applications-2

If you are interested in getting a “Second Life” from your articles, I suggest that you title your posts so that they form logical exact phrases of things the people search for in Google or all other search engines for that matter.

I Hope That You Found This Article Helpful!

What are some things that you feel could help others score more search engine traffic? What are some things that have worked well for you? What do you think about social media networks such as places like MyBlogLog, BlogCatalog and DIGG? In what ways have social media networks given you traffic to your blog? I look forward to you sharing your input in the comments!

Hi Garry,

Thanks for the detailed explanations!

CardioGirl- (hope ya don’t mind Garry)I have an additional suggestion…you might want to try placing a photo (besides the shoe) on your entries. Blogs with an image tend to get more attention compared to those that don’t. Another thing is you have 314 pages indexed in google so you are definitely on your way. Your indexing is pretty fast as I see your last page, http://www.cardiogirl.net/?p=282, was indexed an hour ago. Hope this helps, I’m not very familiar with RSS feeds so I’m learning with the rest of ya’ll. Great article Garry, hope I can apply it.

This is my first time to your blog, Gary, and naturally this article spoke to me. I know that my blog has a lot of potential, however, you acknowledging that it may have MORE potential than blogs written by men is really uplifting.

@ Cardio,

You’re welcome!

@ HM3,

Damn… you go GIRL!!! and spit out that technical SEO talk! I am proud of you and you have learned a lot. :)

@ Erica,

Welcome to my blog! I am happy to have you hear as a reader and contributors. After visiting your blog, I can see why you feel this way. You’ve got an edge on the others as your blog isn’t published to just by ONE female but FIVE!!! Sheesh!!!

The whole personal blog thing, seems to be that much more difficult to build an audience, than if you actually provided something other than an insight into your personal life. Believe me I know. ;)

I celebrate each and every new reader I get, and I know more are coming. I don’t think I have quite hit my stride yet, when it comes to what I’m really wanting to do with my personal blog, but its getting there. So for now I’ll continue, and if it never really takes off, I’ll still be happy that at least one other person than myself is reading it.

@ Cary,

For those who are grateful for things and want to find others that are grateful to will eventually find you.

The thing about keyword focused titles is that those titles also become the link text leading to those posts, so it’s a double SEO win when you use keywords in the title of the post. Also don’t forget to submit your blog to some of the high quality Web directories like Yahoo, Best of the Web and Joe Ant that are trusted and pass Page Rank. So niche directories would also be advantageous. As long as your directory listings don’t constitute the majority of your back links, quality directories can still provide a nice SEO boost. And it’s easy to do and not that expensive.

Garry, you’re definitely right about female bloggers. I personally love getting the sex-crazed male readers. Hey, sex-crazed male readers are still readers! ;) Not only that, but my blog can double as a personal ad.

Yippee!

9 Mark { 01.22.08 at 9:58 pm }

“I personally love getting the sex-crazed male readers.”

Hey guys, that sounds like a personal invitation if ever I heard one. Party at Tish’s, everybody! LOL

10 Garry Conn { 01.22.08 at 10:00 pm }

Is there going to be beer and wet T-Shirt contests? :)

11 Mark { 01.22.08 at 10:04 pm }

I heard Shoemoney’s supplying the t-shirts. Par-tay!

12 Garry Conn { 01.22.08 at 10:06 pm }

DAMN YOU!!!!

You stole my line!!! OMG!!!

I was going to say that… but then I thought to myself, heck… my feelings won’t be hurt if there is a lack of shirts to pass around. LOL!!!

13 Mark { 01.22.08 at 10:08 pm }

Muahahahaha! :)

14 Garry Conn { 01.22.08 at 10:11 pm }

Ok… so Shoe has the shirts, fine…

I guess we can assume that John Chow will have the food…

But who is bringing the beer, or does that fall under the BYOB category?

15 Christine Senter { 01.22.08 at 10:23 pm }

OMG,

I leave you boys alone for two minutes and you’re already in trouble. LOLOLOL

But Garry is right about titling your posts. I wrote an article a few months ago about the new head coach of Nebraska, and I still get hits to it from the search engines.

I have to laugh at homemom because her answer tells me that I’m not the only one who runs to the search engines to see how fast my pages are getting indexed. LOL

16 Garry Conn { 01.22.08 at 10:49 pm }

Mark,

Head over to http://www.gravatar.com and get yourself hooked up with a wet T-Shirt avatar… JOKING…

But, if you were curious, that is how to get your avatar to appear on GCDC.

Christine!

Man… why do you always got to come mess up a good thing… Sheesh… got your cop uniform on??? LOL!!!

Hey, I know what you mean about checking Google for indexing… it is really cool to see stuff pick up quick. :)

17 Mark { 01.22.08 at 10:55 pm }

You and I think so much alike that it’s freaky, I tell you. Right after I commented, I did go over to gravatar and set it up. My drum should be showing any time now. :)

18 Mike Huang { 01.23.08 at 2:40 am }

Wow! This is my read of the day :) Keep up the good work!

-Mike

19 Garry Conn { 01.23.08 at 3:40 am }

@ Mark,

That is a pretty darn nice looking drum…

@ Mike,

Head on over to http://www.gravatar.com and get yourself hooked up with a shiny new avatar so we all can put a face/icon to your words. :)
