Flipping Blog Scams MMO Niche is Full of Jerks
Written by Garry Conn on April 16th, 2008 | 94 CommentsOver the past year I have seen quite a few blogs in the Make Money Online Niche get sold to newbies who are inspired to make something happen within this business of Internet marketing and blog monetization. Unfortunately, I am starting to see a trend in the behaviors of flipping MMO blogs and I am not very happy with it or the people behind it at all.
I caught wind of some events that took place recently, well actually two separate transactions that I was absolutely not pleased with. Beware folks, the days of getting scammed out of $19.95 for a crappy and useless eBook are over. Guys and Gals, welcome to the wonderful era of domain name flipping.
It is a shady and sneaky business and it shows its ass even more in the MMO niche. It seems that scamming people out of a $20 dollar bill for an eBook just isn’t quite good enough these days. Now we have little maggot MMO slime balls buy domains, launch a blog, run it for a few months while manipulating the statistics and then put it up for sale in SitePoint for an individual to purchase it who is lead to believe the site is the best thing in the world.
Last month Brent Crouch, new owner of www.blogrepreneur.com, illustrated disappointment in the performance of his new blog after spending $2,500 dollars and putting forth a lot of time and energy into doing an interview with me - his first post as new owner. The results were terrible. I put in about an hour to provide material for the post and I am sure he put in three times the amount of work to piece it all together.
There was no traffic and no comments to the post. In fact, I was nice and directed some of my own traffic to the post to help out. Needless to say, I don’t think Brent was very happy with making the purchase. Look at this screen shot below of the auction:

You can also view the ended auction page on SitePoint. The description of the auction indicates that the blog gets around 8,000 Unique visits per month (average 266 unique visits per day). Brent quickly discovered that this was absolutely not true.
Brent communicated to me in an email,
“The traffic isn’t great at all. It is only about 30 uniques a day. Quite a bit different than the 8,000 a month I was expecting. I was really hoping some of the RSS subscribers would be more involved. I really have to figure out how to promote this thing.”

I agree. I think 900 unique visits per month is a far stretch from the 8,000 being advertised on SitePoint. I wouldn’t be too happy either. Unfortunately, there isn’t much that Brent Crouch can do about this but bite the bullet and learn from the experience.
The traffic was misrepresented for www.blogrepreneur.com in two ways. One the stats represented were arrived using a program called AWStats. AWStats is a program that comes pretty much standard with cPanel hosting. It is very old and not accurate at all. Below is a screen shot of www.blogrepreneur.com AWStats for Feb 2008:

5380 total visits in AWStats does not equal 5380 Unique visits. There is a huge difference between what AWStats reports compared to other traffic analysis programs such as Google Analytics. If you’re considering purchasing a blog that reports stats using AWStats, steer clear.
The second misrepresentation of the traffic for www.blogrepreneur.com was the heavy use of StumbleUpon for the purpose of beefing up the traffic stats report. As many folks know, StumbleUpon can deliver burst fire rates of traffic to pages that are submitted into their network. The quality of traffic is very low and rarely converts into a wanted action by publishers.
This blog is absolutely not worth $2500 dollars. I wouldn’t have paid more that $100 for the domain name. But then again, asking my assessment isn’t fair as I rarely purchased pre-established domain names.
In a situation that happened more recently, involved an individual named Marc Galeazzi who purchased www.onemansgoal.com for $10,000 dollars. The purchase absolutely concerns me a lot for similar reasons mentioned above regarding www.blogrepreneur.com.
I want to address something else that I am more focused on regarding the purchase of www.onemansgoal.com that doesn’t have much to do with Marc but rather how people are publicly treating Marc and his decision to purchase this blog. Granted, I believe that his purchase was a huge mistake and a huge waste of money; however, I would never use my own blog to ridicule him for making the mistake and poor choice to purchase the blog as Vic did from BloggerUnleashed.
For the record Vic… you’re an asshole. An absolute filthy asshole. I never really liked your style all that much but tolerated reading your filth. I think your mouth has a tendency to run off into your butt and comes out smelling like crap. You’re arrogant, cocky, and you’re level of intelligence is reflected in the quality of your writing and choice of words.
I do take it personal when people make fun of others who make mistakes. In my opinion, it takes courage to spend 10K on a web site, and I respect Marc Galeazzi for doing so, regardless of it being a mistake. When Vic published his post it shows absolutely no class and I believe that many will lose any remaining respect they had for him.
With 2000+ subscribers, if I was one, I would wonder to myself if he would use mistakes I made as material for my blog. MMO blog authors are supposed to be teachers of their readers. If I was a reader of his blog, I would have unsubscribed immediately.

Bob (aka JohnCow) you’re an asshole too by fueling the fire. I have been very disappointed with you and your blog for awhile. Your blog is no different that the rest of the bullshit MMO sites that do nothing but spin off the same stupid information found on the other 100 or so other MMO blogs. Your blog doesn’t help anyone learn how to make money online, yet your blog heavily advertises the fact that it does.
It takes a lot to get me upset; however, when I witness people within the MMO niche that act like a bunch of middle school kids making fun of the ugly girl who dropped her books in the hall it pisses me off and without a doubt shows me the true colors of many of the individuals out here. Not only do these people scam, take money and trick their readers but now they make fun of them when they get the courage to step foot into the MMO arena.

Did you even bother to read the comments? But let’s be honest all you want is to jump on the “Vic” train LMAO you my dear friend turned out to be just another joke LMAO!!! Do me a favor please next time do not link up you can just name the site
Garry .. I’m glad to see you have the balls to call a low-life a low-life. People like them, wouldnt know integrity if it jumped up & bit them in the ass .. but you can bet they’d be the first to cry woe is me if the tables were turned.
@ Vic,
If there is a specific point that you’re trying to make then make it. You project yourself as being a brutal and in your face type of guy, yet you expect me to weed thru 170+ comments. If you have a point to make then make it.
As far as I am concerned, your post belittled and ridiculed an individual for a poor decision made. Calling Marc Galeazzi a dumb fuck for purchasing 10k on a domain name is harsh.
I agree it was a mistake, but people make mistakes and people get scammed and tricked everyday. That is an issue that I strongly voice my opinion on and try to bring out more awareness. From the little amount of time I have spent on your site, it would seem the same for you as well.
With that being said, why belittle Marc Galeazzi for a mistake? There are many ways to deliver a point and educate people. Calling people names and making them feel like shit isn’t my style. I think you are one of the most ignorant and arrogant bloggers I have met to date. And yes… I think you are absolutely one of the biggest assholes I have met in my 31 years of living. Congrats on earning that title.
Have a nice day
.. and go do a video about me so I can get more traffic to my blog too. Asshole.
Hey Garry;
This is really weird — I just ran across this guy for the first time today. Apparently, he did a similar thing to Caroline Middlebrook. In the video he posted about her, he called all her readers “dumb fucks” for reading her blog. Since that included me, I took a walk.
I read lots of different blogs. As you know I am trying to learn about IM from many different source, but Vic is not my style.
Regards,
Mark
Well said Garry,
It’s awful that people are getting ripped off. It’s a fact that for committed people there is enough Money Making room on the web and we need to help each other achieve the levels we need, not rip each other off!
As for John Cow… I used to chat with him in the old days (a few months ago!) a little and he seemed like a really nice bloke but I agree recently the blog has been a little crappy and full of hate campaigns and showing everyone how he can work out they are idiots! Anyway I am sure you know…. you will have a hate campaign heading your way very soon…
In fact the MMO niche mostly bores me. All the A-listers are being removed from my reader when I do a clean up and I will be following some newbies in the niche to see if they can give a fresh opinion and actually help me. And of course I will keep coming here.
@ Mark,
I know of Vic and know of his blog. I have only been there once or twice, I might have even commented on a post… it seems we might have had some kind of interaction before but I can’t remember.
I do hear a lot of people talking about him though… such as he is the guy that you’d want to stay off his radar and things like that. People are obviously intimidated by him as he does his thing with painting the picture he paints for himself.
I don’t know him that well at all. From what I do know about his, I am sound on knowing this… the guy is a complete dick head. It is very rare that I would throw bombs like that about people, but he seems to be a real charmer. He is a horses ass. I would never write a post about a guy that probably made one of the worst decisions in his life and then call him a dumb fuck. That is just tasteless.
I don’t know Caroline all that well… she seems like a real nice girl. She is from Europe right? I know her from an eBook she wrote about WordPress or something like that. It kind of caters to beginners so I never finished reading it.
Anyway, tell me more about what you’re talking about regarding Vic calling her and her readers dumb fucks. I’d like to get the scoop on that one.
Garry;
No much to tell. He attacks her on a regular basis for taking advantage of her readers — he calls her stuff like “____ bitch” quite a bit in the video. He says that people trying to learn MMO from her are fools (”dumb fucks”).
What confuses me is that Caroline is one of the nicest, most transparent people I have met in IM. She is not claiming to be an MMO expert — on the contrary, she is just blogging about her experience learning about how to MMO. Like I said above, I was personally put off by the video. http://tinyurl.com/2tr82r
The bummer of it all is that Vic seems to have the right idea about some stuff. He’s just dead wrong about Caroline (IMHO), and he is unnecessarily harsh (also, IMHO).
Regards,
Mark
Unfortunately, I don’t want to start a comment war, but I like Bob. He’s a good guy, enough said. But seriously, in terms of Vic, what the hell..
If someone made a mistake, what a welcome you gave them. Ridiculing them, good job, you’ve just had a lot of negative, press, your a number one asshole. If you made a mistake, would I laugh at you, no, I would try to help, and give suggestions on how to fix the situation, you did neither, you were just plain mean.
Really, your a petty little man, who thinks that insulting others makes you a better person.
I’m glad I didn’t subscribe to his blog, I thought about it, but this definitely shows he’s a pig. It does bother me a lot when people get taken advantage of, this is why you have to be so careful about where you buy anything online. MMO is full of low lives.
Caroline Middlebrook is one of my favorite bloggers, right after you Garry
If reading her blog makes me a dumb *&%$ (sorry God is watching) then at least I’m not a pig. It’s sad that these kinds of things happen among bloggers. I guess it makes for good pubs as well.
Great post Garry.
This Vic guy (never heard of him until I was directed to his “video” about Caroline” is just another blogger trying to sound important by telling his herd of people who don’t know any better how bad successful marketers are.
People love to watch others who don’t seem to care what comes back at them and the idiots who play this card always ruin their name and their business in the long run.
If he were smart he would focus all of that energy on building his business so he can be one of those successful marketers, rather than burning bridges.
I believe the best thing to do with trash like this is to just ignore it. Sending it exposure is only going to send more people who like to watch it.
Caroline is a good person, who is doing extremely well in this industry for the short amount of time she’s been online. Anyone who would disrespect that and make up lies about her has serious issues.
btw, Garry. What’s up with Alexa, huh? Looks like you dropped 50,000+ over night too. Yours, mine and a few others I’ve seen have been sitting at 110,000 on and off throughout the day.
Ok this is getting hard to keep up with… LOL
Forest, I don’t blame you one bit man.. not one bit! I have more fun blogging about airplanes than I do engaging into the MMO niche carnival. MMO niche is rotten, dirty, very cut throat and extremely competitive.
I don’t know Caroline all that well. We have exchanged a few emails here and there and I have read her blog a few times. Regretfully my reason for not knowing her better is simply because I am very busy. From what I see of her, she seems like a sweetheart and a very intelligent and unique individual.
The video that you referenced me to is nothing but trash talk. Anyone that speaks like that is purely ignorant with a very limited vocabulary. That video is just nasty. To be honest, I have no words… I am dumbfounded. Never in a million years would have have expected that.
I know that everyone is going to go hunting for it, so I might as well include it here.
Remove The Kids From The Room Before Playing
Mattaw, I regret calling Bob an asshole. I was pissed off and part of that bled over to his blog. I will say this, I am disappointed with him as well as many of the MMO blogs. JohnCow is a very unique site and it seems to be doing well. My bone to pick with Bob is no different than the bone I have to pick with any MMO blog that advertises how they will show people how to make money online but don’t.
That is a correctable issue. Vic simply has issues. LOL!!!
She has close to 1400 more subscribers than me… she must be doing something right.
I can agree with that. She has over 2000 subscribers. That is awesome and I love success stories. The video that Vic did on her was very uncalled for. From what I can see in front of me, it seems like she is doing very well for herself, her brand and her name. Vic seems to be the first person on my radar who is complaining. Maybe he is jealous because she has a personality and he doesn’t???
Yeah… that is tricky. Bringing out awareness has pros and cons. It just amazes me what happens when I read one post and start digging. This whole thing is about some guy named Marc Galeazzi who bought a blog for 10k and then got totally smashed by Vic. Never in a million years would I have known about this Caroline Middlebrook issue if it wasn’t for that. I can’t believe that people actually follow his blog. I guess I got a lot to learn about connecting with people.
Hi Garry,
WOW! You are fired up today.
No doubt about it. I paid “stupid tax” on this one. There is really nothing I can do. If the seller were located in the United States, I’d have my attorney file a small claims action based on principle alone. But as you know, in my case the seller was located in India, which doesn’t leave me a lot of options.
Is there a safe way to buy sites from Sitepoint? Obviously, a seller can post whatever stats they want. There isn’t any real way to know if they are from the site that is for sale or not.
I guess one option would be to have the seller post your Google Analytics code on the site before the transaction. At least then you could monitor the traffic yourself. But the transactions tend to close so quickly, I don’t think there is much opportunity for that sort of thing.
One thing I will do in the future is buy from sellers located in the U.S. only. This isn’t because I don’t trust foreign sellers in general, but at least with a local resident you can take some sort of action if the sale is clearly misrepresented as it was in my case.
Luckily, I’ve made enough good choices that I really want miss the $2,500, but it would have been nice to have spent it on something I didn’t need, given it to charity, or even burned it instead of giving it to “our” friend in India.
Have a good night.
Brent Crouch
P.S. It’s a little ironic that the “scammer” that sold me the blog purchased a Foot Note Ad for this post.
I did a Whois on his blog. Looks like he also owns bloggingZoom, which did decent, so he may have some credibility in the blogosphere, but he still has some major issues with his mental health
@ Brent,
It is an ironic situation and its hard to say what I would do because I would never pay for a pre-established site being that it is very easy for me to buy a domain name fresh and get it up the ranks at a very quick speed with solid traffic and a solid reader base.
If I were to sell a pre-established site and list it on SitePoint, eBay or even advertise it on my own blog, some how I would figure out a way to weed out the tire kickers from the serious buyers and grant them user level access to my Google Analytics account or simply download the PDF’s that Google Analytics can generate and provide them upon request.
It wouldn’t be professional to mix personal feelings or base a decision to approve an advertisement upon the previous actions of an advertiser. His blog meets the standards I look for when approving ads.
I can’t pick and choose who is allowed to advertise on my blog. Only thing I can do is state that I don’t accept to advertise the affiliate links of others at such a cheap price because I could just use that slot myself and make more. He didn’t purchase a footnote ad specific for this post. They are rotated.
@ Josh,
Josh… I hear what you’re saying man, but in all honesty if Bill Gates wrote a post like that, regardless of the level of credibility he has, I would still hold strong with my beliefs. The things that Vic said about Marc Galeazzi and the recently discovered things he said Caroline Middlebrook are totally ill-bred, tasteless and vulgar.
This guy has absolutely no class nor does he care for providing the best in people or society. And yes indeed… I think you’re right, he might have some inner personal issues that need to be worked out for sure.
He owns BloggingZoom… and he also owns a mouth that speaks from his Chocolate WhizWay.
BTW ChocolateWhizway.com is available. LOL!!!
My God!!! Check out the comments on the COW POW site… speaking of Chocolate Whizways look how far Vic has his nose up Bob’s (aka JohnCOW) butt… I totally misinterpreted Cow’s post. My bad!!
“I understand that you are trying to get back readership and had to attack me so its ok good marketing tactic.” , said Vic.
“Vic, this isn’t an attack, this is our opinion of the way you’ve cracked down on a newbie. Don’t try to make this about us as if we’re using it as a marketing tactic.”, said Bob (aka JohnCOW)
Screen capture below:
Gee Garry, does that mean you do or don’t like us? Perhaps you should read our post again and consider revising your original post.
Bob,
I mentioned this many times already admitted that I misread your post as I was fairly upset at the time after learning what Vic wrote on his blog. I assumed that you were fueling the fire. Who’s the ass now? Me… LOL!!! I have no problem admitting that. However, since I have you here reading my blog post, I’d like to see what your thoughts are on the following.
I do NOT take back what I said about your content and how you’re running your blog. I have a bone to pick with all MMO bloggers who claim to be teachers in this business. Your content is freaking garbage dude… it doesn’t help people learn how to make money online, nor do you write it with the intention to help others, yet you advertise your blog as being a source for learning the business.
When you started your blog, it was a spin off parody of John Chow dot Com… I get it! Then a few months later you built enough out of that to pull off John Chow’s tit and start eating solid food. At that time you invested money into a new design and an independent brand. And you know what? It worked and worked quite well.
However, let’s fast forward to today and I’ll probably be one of the first people to admit so, but reading your blog in RSS, I can’t really tell much difference between reading your blog and John’s.
Does John Chow show people how to make money online? No!!! Do I like John as a person? Sure why not, his blog now entertains me, but I don’t agree at all with the brainwashing he does.
The way I see it is like this. If you can’t show me how to make money online, then you can’t show my readers how to do it either. Consequently, a lot of my readers also read your blog and that is when I start to take things personal and get pissed off.
I feel responsible for my reader’s welfare in learning this business. What other MMO blogger will admit that. One of my last thoughts before my head crashes down on my keyboard at night is wondering how I can better connect with my readers towards helping them along in their online ventures.
I hold myself totally accountable and responsible for helping every single person who reads my blog. Can you say the same? I think not… otherwise you wouldn’t be “Milking the MMO Niche” as you call it and treating people like cows on the pasture.
In my opinion, you treat people like objects that have something you want… money. This is very common and unfortunately the accepted norm of blogs within the MMO niche. Can one blogger change that… probably not, but I’ll continue to try.
Bob what bothers me the most is that our instant message conversation on March 7th is still fresh on my mind, where you dropped me an instant message asking me if I knew the guy who purchased Blogging Fingers.
You then proceeded to tell me about how you wanted to sell John COW dot Com because you were bored with it and bored with blogging in the MMO niche, while admitting to me that your blog earns around $3,500 dollars per month.
You asked me how much I think you should sell the blog for and my answer was clear. I said that if your blog is really making $3,500 dollars per month, then you’d be stupid to sell it.
You then totally ignored that answer and then asked me what my thoughts were on you selling your blog for $40,000 dollars and my answer was this:
“I wouldn’t sell that is what I think that is only 11 months of income plus each month your blog gets more so you’re losing big time I think it would be stupid to sell a blog that is making $3500 dollars per month unless you see it going under.”
You then continued to bitch and complain about how bored you were with blogging about MMO. And as you know, I then made you an offer to silently take over the blog and run it for you for $1,500 / month.
You then said this to me:
“ that’d mean I would start making less money. well thats just it, I probably spend an hour per day on it lol so it’s not like its a big task I think I’d rather sell.”
So, Bob… you’re going to sit there and tell me that you have a blog that earns $3,500 dollars per month with only one hour of work invested per day and you want to sell that because you’re bored with blogging about MMO. If this is true (which it is not) then you’re more than an asshole, you’re an idiot!
Here is what I think… I would guess that your blog only makes about 25% of what you say it does… maybe even less. First off… If I had a blog that made $3500 month with only 1 hour per day invested each month, selling it would be the last thing on my mind.
Secondly, if I was bored or too busy to run it, paying someone $1500 dollars to run it while scoring $2000 dollars for free each month isn’t losing money… that is making money!
If you’re not willing to take a deal like that, then it is obvious that you’re a liar and that your blog doesn’t make enough money to cover the salary of hired help.
And just to think Marc Galeazzi got scammed out of 10K and you’re trying to scam someone out of 40-50 thousand dollars. Thus the title of my blog post, Flipping Blog Scams and MMO Niche is Full of Jerks… and you are now officially one of them in my book. Hope that answers your question.
Enjoy milking the ignorant, what comes around goes around… and that day will eventually come back to you.
Well said Garry these days both Cow and Chow are making posts that are not worth reading.I think you left to mention Chow in your post!! The guys who are true to what they are doing includes you, mason and doshdosh
Thanks Garry, looks like this has brought out your true colors.
I’m not going to ‘defend’ myself from your latest comment, the IM conversation we had was nearly 1,5 months ago. I was bored with the whole MMO niche because of exactly this.
I’ll be happy to provide you with proof that the blog is making an average of $2,500 per month as we speak. Due to lack of interest, I have let it slip in the last few months.
And if me not wanting to pay you $1,500 for running my blog for me makes me a liar in your opinion, so be it.
You can talk yourself up as much as you want on here by saying you feel totally accountable and responsible for helping every single person who reads your blog, but in the end you’re in it for the money, which was quite obvious when you proposed to blog for me at a rate of $1,500. You saw an opportunity and tried to go for it.
I’m very disappointed in your reaction. The word hypocrite comes to mind.
I guess this means you no longer want to play nice and be ‘friends’ so I was going to ask you to remove me from your blogroll, but it looks like you’ve already done that. Funny how you asked me for a blogroll exchange via IM a few weeks ago, and you didn’t consider letting me know you broke the ‘deal’. I’ll return the favor by removing you again.
Seriously, take a good look at yourself and the way you try to work the field. You might fool a few people by convincing them you’re a saint, but in the end it will all catch up to you.
Goodbye Garry.
Wow Garry, My head is kind of spinning from reading all the comments. This is one reason why I’m not in the niche your in. Way to much saber rattling for my taste. I would however not mind the income you are generating from your work. I will continue to read your blog I sort of blocked out John Cow a long time ago. Your ethics are strong, continue doing what you do. When you stick your head up above the protective barrier your going to get shot at if you know what I mean?
If you lost any loyal readers from this I’d be surprised. Heck, that would make them an Unloyal reader anyway wouldn’t it. “) I’m still Justa saying!
P.S. My blog is for sale for 1 million any one interested?
I’m starting a new business selling blogs door to door and doing infomercials.
“YourOwnRipOffBlog is only $400, and I will personally install it via our advanced interwebbie system. AND if you buy now, I’ll even throw in my special offer. A free blog widget pack. Normally valued at over $700, you get this FREE… gives you access the mega entrecard network, advanced technology shows your LATEST, and I mean the MOST RECENT blog posts and it even gives you a FREE 428×428 YourOwnRipOffBlog banner at the top of your blog”
how does it sound Garry? is this my key to that 1milwion?
I’ve got to hand it to you Garry - stepping up and saying what’s on your mind was a nice thing to do. I do agree with the fact that Marc may have made a wrong decision, but it was a chance he took when he bought the domain. Anyway, to make a long story short - way to go Garry. I support you in this 100%.
And what are my true colors Bob? I’ll guarantee you one thing, anyone who was considering purchasing John Cow who also happens to read my blog will thank me for bringing this to their attention. So what color flag do I get for protecting people from you?
So you say that you’re bored with MMO for reasons exactly like this? Nah… that is a lie. The real reason why you are getting out is because your site doesn’t make the money you say it does and you invest 8 to 9 times the amount of time you say you do.
As far as the IM convo we had as you down play it, “Nearly 1.5 months ago” concerns me even more. Last month you claimed to me that your site was making $3,500 and now you’re telling everyone an average of $2,500.
I still hold to what I said last month, “..it would be stupid to sell a blog that is making $3500 dollars per month unless you see it going under…”
Huge difference between $3,500 and $2,500 there Bob, something you got a gut feeling about? That why you bailing out and jumping ship?
Are you not already providing this proof on SitePoint? Let me guess… the copied PayPal.com statements is your proof right? Well isn’t that convenient… I too use Paypal.com for multiple things. I can easily take a snap shot of all my transactions and then tell people that the screen shot is a reflection of the income on GarryConn.com.
Your story doesn’t add up with me. You say that you’re making $3,500 dollars but you’re bored. The offer presented to you would allow you to make $2000 dollars for doing absolutely nothing. You declinded simply for the fact that you are lying about your income. The second lie made is telling me that you invest only one hour per day working on your blog.
As I said earlier, anyone that had a blog making $3,500 dollars per month with only one hour of work invested per day would not sell it. The reason why you are selling it is to collect on a lot of money from some poor ignorant soul who has a lot of money but lacks a little in the intelligence department.
LOL!!! So I am in it for the money, huh? Ok, Bob… what am I selling, Micro Niche Finder? LOL!!
Ok ladies and gents… Bob called me out and said that I am in it for the money. Oh man, my dreams of making a full time living selling Micro Niche Finder are over. Rats!
Bob, do you even read my blog? Maybe if you did, it might help. I have clearly said many times that my personal blog doesn’t do anything for me financially. Oh wow… I have an advertisement program that scores $5 bucks per advertisement. Hmm… Yeah, I think I’ll retire tomorrow.
All the time spent here on this blog is volunteer. And if you think that accepting a writing job for $1,500 dollars makes me a sellout then is that also what you think about the large percentage of “Freelance Writers” who visit your blog? Are they sellouts too for looking for writing jobs?
Man, that is so funny, you beat me to the chase on the hypocrite bomb. I feel the same way about you. I guess we’ll leave it up to public perception to see who is the hypocrite.
I have played “nice” for a long time on my blog and I think in doing so there are times it doesn’t really help people all that much. Kind of like if you see someone getting robbed and you just turn your back on the situation.
Here is the issue at hand. You are attempting to sell out for a very high price. The way I see it, one of my readers could have a potential interest in buying based off the whole picture you have painted. Your blog does not make the money you advertise it to be. Otherwise, you wouldn’t be attempting to sell it. What you have done over the last six months is taken a blank canvas and painted a picture of false opportunity and your final move in the MMO niche is the go in for the kill and score 40k-50k and go out in a bang.
You tell me who’s in it for the money? It isn’t me… I am an Adsense guy. I don’t treat my readers like cattle and I don’t write content that tricks them into buying bogus products and services unlike what you have been doing with your blog.
I came late to the party.
Two words: Due dilligence.
Oh great Aaron. You summed that up pretty well. Now can you explain the real world application? If you are given bad stats when practicing that due diligence then what is your work around for that?
Wow… need I say more…?
Well yes actually I need!
Garry sold me Micro Niche Finder because I trust him whole heartedly. I love MNF and am trying to find ways of pushing it to my readers too, although unsuccessfully! John Cow tried to sell some crappy adsense and scrapper site generator that I later found out was pretty much against Adsense T&C’s!
John Cow did teach me some stuff back in the early days and it is clear that he got bored. It is time for someone to take over as he is clearly an intelligent guy and will go onto make some great projects, as long as he respects his readers a bit more.
Any recent comments I have placed have gone unanswered.
There is nothing wrong with making money but if you proclaim to share such an idea then you should do just that.
Problem is…. Garry interacts with his readers on a personal level. John in recent times, does not.
Ok I feel bad now. I shouldn’t say negative things about people who are MUCH more successful than me and have been a help to me in the past. Just my advice, John / Bob needs to get back to his old self. We all liked Bob Meets World very much.
I’ve been debating all day on if I could comment on this or not. I have learned a great deal from Vic. Do I agree on how he puts his message across? No, I do not, but I have learned to shift through the profanity and “calling out” of proposed scammers for the gems of information Vic presents for all to see, test, and benifit from. Why do I say proposed scammers? Simple, I don’t know. I learned long ago not to take everything for face value, no matter who says what. Friends and family find that very annoying, but that’s just how I have; you have to show me.
I eagerly await posts from Vic, as eager as I await post from you Garry. I almost always pickup something I can use; I don’t always take it exactly as given. I take the useful pieces and fit them into my slowly growing online business. But it is Vic and his information that has put money in my pockets. Sorry Garry, I used your advice on Adsense placement, but after a month of testing, it didn’t work out on my video blog.
BTW, if anyone is interested, here’s a link from Vic’s site about why he got so mad at Caroline. It’s a personal story of his for background on why he gets to pissed off at times.

Even before Vic came on the scene, I stopped following her blog; while she was very nice and wrote well, I wasn’t learning anything. Vic kinda says the same thing, but in his own “colorful” way.
@Brent,
Yes, I can explain the real world explanation.
Any time one is thinking of buying a website it is important to verify the stats as accurate. How can this be done?
First check the stats program being used. Is it reliable? What do others who use the stats program say about it?
If you have never heard of the program or cannot verify its accuracy then ask the site owner to place Google Analytics on the site allowing you to view the account.
If he refuses or you need to make an offer quickly, make your offer contingent upon verification of traffic, traffic sources, income, etc. It’s pretty simple and even standard to do.
If you place the money in escrow until after the audit, then the seller doesn’t get the money until after all the particulars are verified.
In fact, if the people who had purchased these websites had placed a similar clause in their offer for purchase they wouldn’t be out any money. If the stats were fraudulent (not just from a bad source but actually fake) then they still could come after the sellers for fraud.
@ Shawn - I won’t speak for Garry, but I’ll tell you why I dislike this guy, and I’d imagine there are many others with the same feelings.
It has nothing to do whether or not he’s knowledgeable or not. It’s all about the type of person he is.
If the devil himself could show me how to make a $1,000,000 10 minutes from now I wouldn’t do it. I won’t sell my sole to the devil
He just seems to be a very immoral, rude, arrogant a**hole and any one of those things is enough for me to stay away from him, let alone all of them combined!
I just have a very big problem with people who think they have the right to call people names and degrade them, especially when they do not personally know the person.
This should be something that happens in the “outside” world, NOT in your own business.
This whole business got me very riled up and excited to see some action in the MMO world. So I just had to write myself a post about it. So here comes the shameless plug…..

@ Josh,
“If the devil himself could show me how to make a $1,000,000 10 minutes from now I wouldn’t do it. I won’t sell my sole to the devil…”
Oh man… why do things have to have price tags… One Mil in 10 minutes… I might sell out on that one.
@ Forest,
You put a lot of effort into your post… the shameless plug is well deserved. I was wondering why something tasted kind of fishy:
When Bloggers Attack:
Breaking Story About A MMO Blogger Who Has Had Enough!
Written by Forest Parks on April 17th, 2008
Awesome post Forest you are a very creative individual and writer. Thanks for placing some needed humor into the situation.
Hey Garry,
Cheers for the little excerpt. I did work very hard on the post and hope that people enjoy reading it.
I will keep trying to push readers to your blog. You are one of the only MMO bloggers that actually personally wants to help and I find out useful info from almost all of your posts.
Well done Garry for highlighting this kind of cheating that is going on in the MMO niche - I try to look in from a safe distance normally.
Speaking of cheating, I mean I’ve been a reader of your blog for nearly a year now and feel absolutely cheated on a daily basis - obviously you’ve not helped me once yet, you sell me crap everyday, but I stick around out of faith that it will come good some day.
Keep up the good work Garry!
The crap you speak! LOL!!!
I am getting some clip art for inspiration for my next header graphic:
@Garry
.”and go do a video about me so I can get more traffic to my blog too. Asshole.”
I know Garry this is why you did it you are another scammer just like the rest. But no! See I am a bit smarter then you the fact that you have seen BU grow to 2300 plus feed readers plus your blog is stock you needed to try to jump the Vic Train but tell you what buddy no I do not give publicity to scammer blogs just like this. I will be at both expos on Vegas I would bet money you do not have the balls people here claim you have and walk up to me and call me an asshole in my face. Lets see buddy, see you in Vegas
BTW Scammer here I will be in my channel in about 2 hours why not come and learn how real money is made and also say all the crap you have said here
http://www.ustream.tv/channel/blogger-unleashed-live
@ vic - Are you trying to run a business or get another UFC started? What’s your problem guy? I wont’ be in Vegas, but I’ll be at the System in Chicago next month. I’d be happy to call you an asshole, and few other select words, to your face!
*ducks to avoid name calling and flying BS*
… Anyway.. Gary -
Don’t worry. There are still a few MMO’ish bloggers out there that are trustworthy people, not selling anything, and have lots of good, personalized info in their blogs that help other bloggers & webmasters.. You just gotta know where to find them
@Randy,
We all are trying to sell something–even Mr.
WonderfulConn. It really has to do with perception. We have to do a good job of providing value to our visitors, readers and subscribers or we’re toast. If we provide good value then people are much more likely to buy products and services we recommend.
