Garry Conn dot Blogspot dot Com

I am very pleased to announce my new extension site titled, Garry Conn dot Blogspot dot Com. This new site is geared specifically for bloggers who use Blogger.com. In the past, I have publicly recommended that Blogger.com bloggers make the switch from Blogger.com to self-hosted Wordpress. Please accept my apology, because you can be just as successful, if not more successful using Blogger.com. Blogger.com and self-hosted Wordpress.org are very equal in many ways. As much as they are very equal, they are both very different from each other and that is why I created Garry Conn dot Blogspot dot Com.

Purpose of Garry Conn dot Blogspot dot Com

The purpose of the site is simple. If I am going to provide my readers with successful blogging tips for Blogger.com, how can I do that using a self hosted Wordpress site? I can’t provide you with live examples,  I can’t get my hands dirty, and I can’t operate by remote control. I am the type of person who will never be too good for grunt work. And I believe if I am going to provide successful blogging tips to Blogger.com bloggers, I need to do so using a Blogger.com account.

What To Expect?

Nothing has really changed. Make no mistake, the site you are reading now, is and will ALWAYS be my main site. I am still providing my readers with successful blogging tips. The only difference is when I talk about tips specific for Blogger.com, I will intro my posts here and direct people to read the full article found on Garry Conn dot Blogspot dot Com. Does this sound like fun! It does for me, so hang on and enjoy the ride! I enjoy all my Blogger.com readers, and the purpose of this extension site is to help you guys directly.

I have already written an introduction article that tells you more about the site, my goals, and what you can expect to find in the site. I want all my interested readers over to the site to check it out. I would love for all my Blogger.com readers to take a moment and drop me a comment on the introduction post. That way I can have a scope for the people I am going to be writing directly to! Also feel free to drop me a comment here on this post and share your thoughts on the launch of the new site.

Question on your blogger account. Is there two columns or something? For my computer it shows up with all your articles and at the bottom of your articles is your intro and stuff. Could be the way you have it set up or just my computer. Just thought I’d let ya know what I was viewing. Glad to hear blogger can earn ya money. :)

Take a look at it now, I have fixed that but using a different template. From there I will be able to modify the colors and stuff. But the more I think about it, I may just leave it as original as possible to illustrate that it is a Blogger.com site. The problem was not on your end, it was on mine! Thanks for letting me know.

There was a time when I used Blogger for my gaming blog. It was an extremely easy way to begin blogging on a user friendly level. I had just discovered the concept of writing my opinions and what I was thinking into a “journal” type enviroment. Blogger allowed me to focus more on my writing and less on the technical side of blogs. It wasn’t until I discovered wordpress and felt comfortable in my own knowledge of HTML and PHP that I set sail on my own hosting.

For 90% of the bloggers out there Blogger will be the ultimate solution. It’s secure, easy to use, 100% reliable, and it’s very easy to transfer to a wordpress blog.

I’m actually very interested in what you have to say about blogger Garry!

Blogger.com is limited in its program ability. It is a static html design and offers zero php options. For a long time I considered this as a limitation. However, I now understand that most bloggers are not programmers… they are writers!

My extension site is going to help them by providing them successful blogging tips intended for Blogger.com.

I never knew that I could go in and SEO a Blogger.com account. I knew that Blogger.com is a “entry level” type of blog system… but with some investigation, it too is very powerful and this power can easily be unlocked. And that is where I kick in… I am going to show everyone what to do! :)

Does make Sense Gary.

You creating a different niche when you are writing about blogspot and I agree that it would make less sense to talk about blogspot on a wordpress hosted blog.

This will be interesting because I used blogger at one time. I honestly feel wordpress.org is better. I will be checking to see exactly how this plays out. Like the idea.

Oh don’t get me wrong… I do favor Wordpress.org. It is more powerful by leaps and bounds. But, from a standpoint on being successful, it doesn’t matter which program you use. Now that I discovered that I HAVE CONTROL over how my pages are to be displayed in the SERPS, Blogger.com is a huge contender in my eyes. I went a long time thinking that Blogger.com accounts couldn’t be SEO’ed… and they can! Which makes them very powerful. The problem is, a lot of people don’t know how to… and that is where I am going to help.

I like blogger, but the biggest problem with it is the potential for Google to pull down your blog for any reason they deem fit. You should back up your blog somewhere in case that happens.

I have run into a few people who have lost their accounts, for one reason or another (one who accidently deleted their blog). I think it is fairly rare though.

Good luck with the new blog. It sounds like a good niche to take on.

There are many risks in blogging. And the amount of risks may be different across the board but using Blogger.com as your home is not any more risky than using self-hosted Wordpress. Garry Conn dot Com has experienced more down time than any of my other little Blogger.com blogs.

Also using Blogger.com coupled with your own domain hosting makes your site almost unpenetratable. Blogger.com writes old school static HTML pages where Wordpres.org writes all the posts and pages dynamically. Garry Conn dot Com could be dead in less than 10 seconds if a hacker got in and made a few changes to my permalink structure.

Backups are important. Server based backups are the best. But on the note where you said people should back up their Blogger.com blog to another should almost be the other way around. I would actually feel safer backing up Garry Conn dot Com to a Blogger.com account and not the other way around.

Don’t get me wrong… I am a Wordpress junkie. I love the advanced features and all the bells and whistles. But from a standpoint of a typical person who wants to run a blog, Blogger.com is very simple and easy to use… and I just now discovered that there is a CORE power in Blogger.com that can easily be unleashed. And that is the purpose of my new extension site! :)

Oh and one last thing to touch on…

Blogger.com opens their arms to people who want to make money online. They give you Google Adsense and are open to allowing you to participate in ReviewMe.com, Text-Link-Ads, and many other programs…

Where with Wordpress.com, they don’t allow this and strongly put the fear of God in people who try.

Good points Garry, just wanted to share the reasons some people recommend against using it. I have seen some pretty good blogs hosted on blogger.

Really though.. you are right. But overall there are risks no matter what you do. So, yes… people should be provided with an overall warning. No matter where you blog at, unless you make proper backups and preparations… you could potentially lose years and years of hard work and writing.

That’s scary isn’t it! I think I am going to do a back up now! LOL!!

BlogSpot is a great place to start off in the blog world. However, if you express your opinions too honestly, it may bite you in the ass.

I have a very good friend who got their blogspot account suspended due to their criticism of a so-called internet based economic network. Apparently, this website (which is not worth mentioning) didn’t like the criticism so they labeled the post as SPAM and got my friend suspended.

I hope you do well with blog spot. But choose your words carefully with certain topics.

I use blogger, and am definitely interested to hear what you have to say…I recently added a 3-column template, which shows that you can do some things with it, but I understand it isn’t nearly as customizable (or at least as easily customized) as Wordpress.

I’ve used this site a bit as well: http://betabloggerfordummies.blogspot.com/

(hope I’m not doing anything wrong by posting that!)
