Garry Conn Little League Baseball All-Star
My son enjoys playing baseball. He has played Little League baseball since he was 6 years old. He turned 10 in April and was able to play up a level this year in the Little League Majors. Really he had one more year of the Minor League, but tried out and was drafted into a Major League team. His spring ball year in the Major League has been done for a few weeks now.
Immediately after spring ball comes the Little League All-Stars. The All-Star teams are all organized by age. 10 year olds will play 10 year olds, 11 year olds will play 11 year olds, etc… Within each age group there are two divisions. The A-Team and the B-Team. The A-Team is a higher performing team and the B-Team, still a good team, isn’t quite as up there as the A’s.
To play in the All-Star tournaments, a player’s coach would have had to nominate him for inclusion. From there the nomination has to receive a majority vote from all the coaches in the League. Garry has been nominated and voted into the All-Stars four years in a row. This is currently his 4th year playing All-Stars and the team’s 4th year going undefeated, so far.
The last three years our team has won their tournaments. This year is kind of special as the 10 year old age group is eligible to play in the State tournament, which will be held in Lexington Kentucky. These games are very fun and highly energized and extremely competitive. The kids playing these games are all very gifted and talented baseball players. Tonight we played our first game and won. The game ended a little after 10:00 P.M. Little late for playing baseball, huh?
It gets kind of tiresome for all of us, but it sure is a lot of fun. My son, Garry, especially enjoys playing baseball and Angie and I really enjoy watching. So, with this win, our next game will be Tuesday. Our team will have tomorrow off, which is actually unusual, and we’ll have a practice Monday and then it will be back to the baseball field playing our second game in the tournament. Our team’s goal is win and make it to the State tournament, so wish us luck.
He is a picture of my son up to bat during the game and another picture of him after the game as he was gathering up his gear:

Garry wears #31 because back in 2006 he enjoyed watching Greg Maddux pitch for the Cubs.

Garry has quite a bit of experience playing baseball. He is a very skilled pitcher and equally if not more skilled as a catcher. He gets quite a bit of time logged in center field, short stop, second and third. Garry is extremely versatile and has taken a spot on every position on the field.
He had the second highest batting average for his entire Spring Ball team. Which is actually amazing being that he is a very young 10 year old, born April of 1998. His spring ball team had three 12 year olds, eight 11 year olds and he was the youngest, freshly turning 10. Through out the year he was in a tie for the highest batting average against a 12 year old on his team.
Garry enjoys hitting and does very well with it. Garry does well with hitting because he is very motivated to get on base. The reason why he wants to get on base is so that he can steal. That is probably the most favorite thing he enjoys doing. He has been Blessed with speed and it very quick.
Here is a short video I recorded earlier this year when he was playing travel ball Winter/Early Spring 2008.
So anyway, wish our team luck. We want to remain undefeated and then deliver some pain to the teams in Lexington Kentucky.

When he makes it to the Big Leagues, I want his rookie card. LOL
Congrats to little Garry.
Great post Garry and best of luck to your son and his team as they progress through the tournament. Both my boys have played soccer all their life and it is a great time as a father to be involved with them. I look forward to your updates and young Garry’s progress.
That’s so cool! You and Angie must be so proud and have every reason to be. Congratulations!
Hi Garry,
best compliments to your son !
As I’ve been sailing in my youth years and as I’ve seen a lot of parents pushing their sons for getting great results, I hope that isn’t your case (I can’t immagine you as such a type).
The most important thing we’ve to remember is: they’re kids and they just have to have FUN !
Have a lot of FUN !
ciao

Good stuff Garry, I know you are very proud….have fun!
Nice.
I suck at baseball, and basketball, and football and basically any sport that you can come up with.
Don’t feel bad… I do too. I think my son got switched at birth.
