Google Search VS Google Blog Search

I never really paid much attention to my own surfing habits but I just realized that I use Google Blog Search more then the regular Google Search. Really the main reason why I use Google Blog Search over the regular Google Search is the fact that I can get the latest written content based off the keyword term I am searching for.

For example, lately I have been on a mini mission to learn more about Alexa and their newer traffic ranking system. Doing a regular Google Search for “Alexa Ranking” returns top results of content that was written back in 2005, 2006 and 2007. There isn’t too many results on the top pages for content written after Alexa did their update in April.

However, doing the same search in Google Blog Search returns very fresh content related to Alexa Ranking which has all be produced after the April 2008 update.

What do you think? Do you prefer to use the regular Google Search to find things, or do you like to use Google Blog Search? As you can see, in many ways I prefer using Google Blog Search.

I have never even thought about using Google Blog Search. Although I don’t write as many articles as you do and don’t have the need for the content, at least not yet anyways.

Plans are in the works for a blog redesign and then increasing my subscription base, so maybe once that plan takes action, I may find Blog Search a more useful tool.

Hi Jerret,

It’s really not only just about finding good things to write about… really it’s for any practice level of research. Even strange and random things…

What is the most popular color of M&M’s candy?
How to build a dog house?
Is is bad to let your fuel take go almost empty?

Pretty much any of these above terms you can find answers in both the regular index as well as blog search. The results in blog search are going to be more fresh compared to the main index.

The main index may be more relevant if its something really odd, but overall the Google Blog Search really seems to hold its own…

It has nothing really to do with Google… its all about what people blog about. Google Blog Search is really just the medium for allowing you to find the things people write about on their blogs. It’s totally a different animal compared to their main index.

Never tried it….I don’t even know where it’s at. But I can see how it would be more up to date with it’s info, as the blogsphere is constantly changing. I may have to look into using it.

go to G’s home page; there is in the top left corner a lind of menubar, the last item is colled “more” and has a downarrow. Click on it, a dropdownmenu appears, the fourth item is “Blogs”. There you are !

Garry:

Google Blog Search is an extremely valuable tool.

Type your blog’s most important keyword into Google
Blog Search. You will find totally current blog posts
where you can offer relevant and helpful comments
that will boost your backlinks.

Repeat daily for a variety of important keywords
for your blog.

Recently, I did a post on “Blog And Ping” where I
explained the term and included a list of ping services.
I publicized the post on Dgg.

Within 1 hour that post was listed #1 on Google
Blog Search for the keyword, “Blog And Ping”.

So you can get some TARGETED TRAFFIC by
using the social bookmarking sites and promoting
the use of Google Blog Search.

Best of success,

Robert A. Kearse

Had not thought of (Google Blog Search) in this manner. But you make a valid point. I have used it before, but i tend to use the main Google search much more.

I really dislike it when i do a search, and nothing current comes up. I tell you another thing, i love using Google, just to learn it, and see how it processes queries. I do searches on it all the time for my blog writing, but i also do a ton of searches just to feel it out. You know.

Also how do you feel about Technorati for getting recent and relevant content from blogs?
