Growing a healthy lawn doesn’t happen over night, and neither does growing a healthy blog site. The old saying “You can’t watch your grass grow” applies to blogs as well. Everyone knows that grass does grow, we are reminded of this everytime when we are forced to mow it. It’s those that have the beer cup holder on their riding mower who are somewhat the lucky ones. Regardless… Grass Does Grow. But you can’t watch it and it surely isn’t going to grow over night.
My friend … Blogs are no different. And this article is just a little “Pulse Check” for everyone. Because everyone from time to time can get a little impatient or discouraged. Blogs take time to grow. Worry less about your site’s growth and more about the content you will feed it. Your lawn will grow healthy and bright by feeding it fertilizer and by giving it water. With blogs you have to feed it content (stories, news, links, posts and pages) and water it with incoming links.
Write good content on your blog, write comments on other blogs, and don’t drift off topic. Write and publish content that is relevant to your blog. If you want to blog about something other than what you created your blog for, then you might want to consider starting a second blog. Keep your blog simple. Stay focued and stay on topic. Growth will happen, and if you wok hard for a few months and take advantage of my writing. Your site will become a success, and you will become a successful blogger!

Hi Gary,
I am starting out a new blog and found all your advice wonderful. I agree with you when you say that it is not going to be successful over night. It takes time and you have to nurse your blog over a period of time.
Your advice is pretty basic, but lays the foundation of success for any blogger. Thanks.

Great writing. This is completely the truth. Also, great new layout I really like it!
Siddharth,
I am happy to discover that you find the article helpful. Understanding that a blog site doesn’t grow over night is a first step towards having a successful site. If you don’t worry about it, and just allow yourself to fluidly write some great articles for people, then people will come.
Yes, you do want to invest a percentage of your time towards marketing your site, yes you want to promote it and do things to build backlinks…
The main point that I hope to have communicated is to not get frustrated or discouraged when you see results that you didn’t expect. If you sat there one night and busted out 20 comments on other sites and expected to get a ton of traffic from that, then that is a false expectation.
Commenting on other sites should be done for the purpose of backlinks and secondary for direct traffic from that site.
I am glad I could help.
Best Regards,
Garry Conn
Brian, thanks so much for your approving comment on the article and thank you for the compliment on the site design! Feedback is vital for bloggers, and I appreciate the information.

Thanks for adding me to your blogroll… That means a lot to me and in time will help this site so much. I have proudly displayed your link in my blogroll as well. It is pretty cool how we are similar people with similar lives. Small world after all, huh?

Yes. Thanks Siddharth. This is so true. I’m just getting started blogging myself – though I’ve been watching the blogosphere for almost a year, learning – waiting for my chance to jump in.
I’ve already seen marked improvements in readership, traffic, page views and average time visitors spend on my site over my static website. I know this is only the beginning. And I know that success won’t come without effort. So thanks for reminding us all.
That is because your site is awesome! And awesome, creative, and unique sites have the reader’s interest! Nice work.
Garry
