Have You Gone Search Engine Local?
Getting your business name out there and getting traffic to your site can be a huge challenge. Yes, I have a natural talent for getting my client’s sites to appear in Google as many others do as well. However, there is more to life than Google and there are other places that shouldn’t be ignored. Before there was Google I used Yahoo and focused my efforts in getting sites listed in their directory. Times have changed though and today, its all about Google.
But that is not necessarily true…
There are local listings such as Yahoo! Local. I must say it is funny to have all the blood, sweat and tears to get a site listed exactly as I want it in Google, yet with little effort I can also have a local listing in Yahoo appear exactly as I want it. I have a home inspector in Clarksville TN. who is a client I have been working with and helping him towards getting his business seen on the Internet. I launched a site for him and in less than two weeks was able to secure the keywords he wanted to target in Google. Things have been going very well and my client is getting calls and leads direct from Google.
Having success with Google, I am turning to sites that offer a local listing directory. There are many out there and most are free! Yahoo Local is one of them. If you are a provider of a professional service, or a small business who is looking for a great way to gain an Internet presense, I would suggest investing time into getting your business listed in as many local listings as possible. People do use these directories to find what they are looking for and your listings in the local directories can do nothing but help your main search engine marketing efforts globally in the main search resuts pages such as Google search and Yahoo search. The more instances where your site and business name appear on the Internet the more value search engines place on you and your site, which mean they will be more likely to display your site higher up in the search engine result pages.

Too bad that these are only for US businesses…
If the company you’re representing is not from the US you could also search for “[regionname] directory” in Google and you get your local directories where you can apply for a listing/link.
