How Can You NOT Make Money Online?
Seriously… before you read this post, take a few moments to read the post title, which asks: “How can you NOT make money online?” This is a valid question to ask, and one I no longer carry much emotion or sympathy to the common responses I receive. I mean, don’t get me wrong. I feel emotion for those who want to make money online. But, what I don’t feel is much sympathy to most people who tell me they can’t or have failed.
I was taking a shower the other day – yes this is something I actually do daily! – and I got to thinking about how back in the day, artists had to draw up cartoons frame by frame. Meaning, literally each movement seen on film would be a separately draw image on paper. I don’t know what comes to your mind what you ponder on that, but hard work comes to mine.
Imagine yourself having to make a 30 minute cartoon of Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse by hand. First, you would have to think of a story or a plot. Second, you would have to write the script on paper. And third, you would have to actually draw the cartoon by hand, frame by frame!
Now, let’s fast forward a few decades and ask again, “How can you NOT make money online?“
How can you not make money online when you have more technology in your bedroom than people did even after investing tens of thousands of dollars many years ago? How can you not make money online when you have more computing power than NASA did during the Apollo missions? Their success was delivering a man to the Moon. And your excuse as you sit behind a newer computer, loaded with expensive and bundled software, coupled with a high speed Internet connection, is that you can’t make money online!
Why not?
Why can’t you make money online? For every excuse you may have, there is a solution. The problem that majority of the people have who are interested in making money online is the fact that they assumed the task would be easy. Getting a man to the Moon was difficult. But NASA proved it was possible. They achieved their goal using technology that was – at the time – state of the art. Today, you have much better technology at your disposable.
Just like the cartoon artist back in the early days, your job – making money online – is also an art too. The only difference between your job, the early day cartoon artist, and NASA back in the late 60’s and 70’s, is the fact that YOUR job is much much EASIER, but also, it comes pre-loaded with many excuses as to why you will fail.
You have the skill, you have the talent, and you have the artistic touch. Harness these materials and tools in front of you and gain forward motion. Make a video using the Camtasia Free Trial or Windows Movie Maker. Write an eBook using Open Office or Google Docs. Represent and Sell an affiliate based product that you enjoy and trust by promoting it on a blog. Gain traffic by the thousands on the Internet for free versus getting the same exposure land based after spending thousands of dollars.
Be smart, observe your conversions… understand why people buy, understand why they don’t. Understand why people click, understand why they don’t. Use Google Analytics to aid you. Observe how you present information to people. Study why certain presentations work and why others didn’t.
Most important thing you should take with you after reading this post is this: Stop manifesting hundreds of reasons why you can’t make money online and start creating thousands of reasons why you CAN make money online. Success with making money online is more in your mind than anything else. You have the technology, and you have all the tools. Everything you need is in front of you. You just need to open your eyes as well as your mind, to see it shining directly in front of you.

Good post! Get back to me soon thanx-jim
I think, along with other excuses, is the fact that people don’t know how to work. Why should you deserve make money online if you’re not going to put the appropriate amount of work in…. People think that working online is an easy way out of a normal job, thinking that it will only take a couple hours a day……. The fact is that in order to make money you have to WORK. If you’re not going to put work in you’re not going to get anything out of it. It’s quite a simple concept.
I gotta say that I LOVE this post Garry! It’s so very true and something I try to get into the minds of people all the time. Almost anyone can make money online but the problem is that most people have too many excuses or expect the money to start rolling in just because it’s the internet. You still have to WORK for it!
I think the answer to the question is the same as the one to questions like:
- Why can’t I loose weight?
- Why can’t I be good at sports?
- Why can’t I find a girl-/boyfriend?
- Why can’t I get out of debt?
The solution is all in the mind, so a way out of the rut might be to go to the library and get a few personal development “mind twisting” books in order to get your head into shape. When that is taken care of the rest will be a piece of cake…

This really is a great post. It’s insane to think that I have more computing power in front of me right now than NASA did when going to the moon. I have more computing power in my cell phone! The biggest barrier for me is the fear that I am pursuing something online and it’s the wrong thing. I work my butt off and in the end, it doesn’t pay off. Maybe this post is the kick in the butt that I needed to just suck it up and move forward.
During the first year was really hard work. 2 years the most. but then after the hard work, you can already enjoy and reap the fruits of your labor. Earning money online is not easy, I must agree that it needs work, time, effort and strategy.
It was the same for me for so long until I started to get my mind in the right way. You cant make money on the internet until you believe that you can and that you deserve it.
One of the main things that put me on the straight and narrow was doing a program called Daily Magic by Tony Robbins. It’s a powerful recording that brings you through affirmations, goals etc, and basically it has turned around the way I think and view making money.
This post in a great representation of what it takes to be successful. More people than you think are afraid of success, and make numerous excuses why they cannot achieve their goals whatever they may be. You definitely hit the nail on the head – change your thought process and write down reasons why you can make money online, or anything else you’re trying to accomplish. You’ll start to see the possibilities instead of the obstacles. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Jim… I am knocking all the emails out. No worries man.
Awesome post, Garry! I agree with you completely. There’s many people with the wrong mindset, thinking it doesn’t take any work on their part to start making money on the internet. I had people ask me why their not seeing results, and when I ask them what they’re doing to build their business, they don’t have an answer. I hate people with excuses. You have to get out there and just do whatever it takes to reach your goals. Thank you for this motivational post.
Good post Gary. I want to be able to make money online. Its easy for someone who is already making money online to say “get your mind right” and all will fall in place. But, what is the outline to making money online?
I can find lots of info online by searching your blog and others and finally start putting it together. But, no one is going to tell you exactly what to do for free and I don’t blame them/you. When you do find someone willing to help you for a fee its so high a regular guy like me can not afford it.
Then the next thing is finding the extra time it takes to be able to “take action”. I all ready work for myself doing machine shop work and generally put in long hours everyday. I have been doing this type work for 20 years and I’m just growing tired of that type of work and would love to make money online.
I have been building lenses and writing articles for a while now but I’m still missing a piece of the formula. Eventually I will figure it out because this is something I really want to do.
Thank you for all the great post on your blog and keep up the good work.
Terry, I think that what Gary is talking about is exactly what you “suffer” from and don’t worry. We’ve all been there. And stating that the information you need is not available for free is simply not true. EVERYTHING you will need is out there for free but you might want to buy something to save time collecting it all.
The action part is what matters but the road ahead is VERY hard to see when you haven’t been there yet. Gary has traveled the road and when looking back everything seems easy and clear but it won’t until you have been there.
The “solution” is to TRUST those that have been there before you and to keep doing what you’re doing (staying focus and not jumping from thing to thing is vitally important). You WILL get there but it WILL take time.
