How Do I Get Chris Pirillo’s Social Media WordPress Theme To Work
Stephen who blogs at Techy sent me an email today asking for some advice with installing Chris Pirillo’s Social Media WordPress Theme. Here is a copy of his email:
Hey Garry.
I am glad that you have decided to integrate this feature within your blog. Anyway, I do have a question. I saw your post on how to install the WicketPixie theme to a self-hosted WordPress blog. I have installed the theme successfully but am having a few issues with some of the features. For instance, when I try to add a source the page just refreshes and nothing happens. I also have an error message at the bottom of the activity stream page that says the following, “Fatal error: Undefined class constant ‘archive_streams’ in /home/a9932679/public_html/wp-content/plugins/sourcemanager.php on line 210″ What does this mean and how do I fix it? I have changed the file permissions like you said but that did not do much. Otherwise, everything works and looks great on my blog. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Here is my thoughts about Chris Pirillo’s Social Media Theme. This is a very advanced and capable theme that requires a ton of configurations in order to get it to work. If you need help getting it to work, I decided to make a tutorial last year towards helping Chris because he didn’t have time to provide support. He is a busy guy and I didn’t mind doing it.
You can find the tutorial here:
http://www.garryconn.com/wicketpixie-installation-and-configuration-guide.php
Outside from that, I can’t provide any additional support; however, I will say this. The Social Media WordPress theme isn’t for everyone, especially the new self-hosted WordPress blogger.
Here is the thing, Chris Pirillo is actually one of my favorite bloggers to follow. I have learned so much from Chris just watching him work. He is amazing. So don’t get me wrong, I am not downing his theme one bit. However, I am saying that if you are new to blogging or if your blog doesn’t have any traffic, or if you don’t output close to the same amount of data that Chris does on a daily basis, then probably the Social Media WordPress theme isn’t right for you.
Keep in mind, this is the current theme the Chris uses himself. He designed this theme for his own person use and freely gave out the source code for anyone to use. In my opinion, he should charge money per download. But Chris is and always will be an open-source guy. The theme is beautiful if you can get it configured.
My advice to you would be to choose something different and work hard on growing your blog and maybe in the near future it will grow large enough to where you would need a theme like his. At that point in time, I would then strongly recommend hiring a programmer to help you install and maintain it.
With that said… don’t forget to visit Chris live at Live.Pirillo.com. (I always love having the opportunity to say that!) If anyone wants to learn how to make money online, I strongly advice that you visit Chris Pirillo’s blog and watch him like a hawk. You learn everything he does and take all that and build from it. I have learned more from him than anyone else on the Internet. He has a spot on my blogroll.
