How Do I Get Listed In The Search Engines
Have you been struggling to figure out how to get listed in the search engines? Does it seem like your site gets the short end of the stick? Here are some helpful tips that will help you get your site listed in the search engines.
Search engines, such as Google, look for sources of great information. If your blog or web site doesn’t supply a source of great information, a search engine will have no need for you or your blog / web site. When you author a blog or webmaster a web site, this thought should always be on your mind: “Am I providing useful information to people who stumble upon my site?” If you simply post the same news a reader can find on CNN, Fox News, TechCrunch, ProBlogger, etc… then search engines are not going to find a use for your site in their index. Plain and simple. Why should a search engine index your site if the same information is already available on another site that is 10 to 100 times bigger and better than your own?
If you want your blog or web site to be listed in the search engines, you have to provide information that is useful to other people. If you want to report the news, then that is fine… but report the news in your own words. Learn about the story by reading the story on many other sites and then take what you have learned about the story and write it in your own words. It is also helpful to include the sources where you found the information that enabled you to cover the news in your article.
Reporting the news isn’t the best choice if you are wanting to get a blog or web site indexed. The best choice is authoring a site where you cover topics and write articles that haven’t been covered before or not too heavily. Google, along with most of the other major search engines have very similar standards as to what blogs or web sites they index and which ones they don’t. Authoring a blog that published information about 3 spotted mushrooms compared to launching a site that reports the news is more likely to have a better chance taking a seat for position in the search engines.
The main point to my article is more or less to remind bloggers that blogging and having a standard of high quality in mind is the key. Be creative with what you write, be unique with what you write… and soon you will find yourself listed in the search engines.

Good advice.
I’ve been taking your advice and my blog has been getting ranked in the search engines higher and higher for certain topics.
I wrote and submitted something to Associated Content. I submitted it as a non-exclusive piece as I had already published it on my blog.
Yesterday, Associated Content denied it because it was already published on too reputable of a site! You should have seen my face when I read that. They said anything with a google page rank higher than 4 would compete with their site, so more than likely people would read it on my blog before they would read it on their site.

You know, I’ve been doing exactly that with my my push up blog, specifically my blog about doing 1000 push ups. So that’s a pretty tight niche, and if you do a google search for 1000 push ups, my blog is #7, and if you do a search for “one thousand push ups”, my blog is #4. But I still don’t get that much traffic. The thing is - not that many people search for “1000 push ups” every day. Do you have any suggestions? Thx.
