I have been blogging for about two years and I can’t begin to tell you how much I have learned. When I first heard about blogging, I quickly started to research. How do I start blogging? What is blogging? Why do I need a blog? What is the difference between having a blog and a website? I was honestly overwhelmed!!!

Blogs are fun! People have blogs for many various reasons. Most of my friends and readers all have blogs that help make money online. However, many people have blogs for a ton of different reasons.

How Do I Start Blogging?

There are two places or formats that you can use to create a blog. One is a popular place called Blogger.com. The other is a place called WordPress.com. If you want a free blog, I would recommend using Blogger.com over WordPress.com for the fact that you have complete freedom to monetize your blog.

Monetize is a term that is used when a blogger decides to place many different links and banners on their blog that allow them to make a little money when clicked. WordPress.com doesn’t allow you to monetize.

Blogger.com is nice but its not perfect. Ideally, I would recommend getting a self hosted version of WordPress. This is very similar to WordPress.com but the main difference is that you get to have your own copy of WordPress and you are not held to following the rules of WordPress.com

Self hosted WordPress requires a domain name and a website hosting account. Don’t get alarmed by this because the cost is very low. Today a domain name will cost around $5 dollars per year and a good starter web hosting accout runs around $5 dollars per month.
