How To Make $100 / Week From a Blog

I got an email from a reader and I couldn’t pass up posting in here on the blog because I think what I wrote to her can help other people. Her name has been changed, everything else is real.

Hello Garry,

I joined your email list/form about 6 months ago and was working hard at it until I had to go out and get a job to make ends meet.

I wrote to you before about which deal blog program would be best and ended up purchasing affiliate theme you recommended.  My site is www.xyxyxyxyxyx.com

Honestly, my part-time job is killing me (I’m a mom with 7 kids.. I wrote to you before when I was getting started).  But, being away 24 hours a week is tough and even more tough because I can’t devote hardly any time anymore to this affiliate theme blog and I really, really wanted and tried to get something going.

I’m only making $100.00 per week with my job.  Do you think I could make that much with the site I created?  I don’t know, I know your incredibly busy, I’m not looking to get rich quick just trying to be home more with the kids by making a little income from home.  If you have a chance, please let me know what you think.

Thank you!

My response:

xyxyxyx,

I think that it’s very plausible to make $100 / week from a website without much involved. The key is getting people interested in reading your blog and also getting them to join a mailing list. The more people that join your mailing list and read your blog increases your odds of people buying the products you recommend and suggest.

You need a niche… it could be about how to parent and survive with 7 kids… you could offer tips and tricks on how that’s done… how you make money is on occasion you pitch or recommend a product that earns you commission. Because you don’t do it very often, your conversions should be high and you’ll yield good money if you have a lot of people reading your blog and subscribed into your mailing list.

The key is making sure that people stay interested in your blog, and that you provide very useful information, and most importantly… interact with your readers.

Best Regards,
Garry Conn

While they are good tips Garry, but not every one can or will be able to sell something directly from their blog. In fact, if you're doing this part time, and working a proper job on the other hand, it is very difficult to actually "build a mailing list"or get a steady readership – From a blog. If your blog was the only one out there, yes; otherwise, I don't think so.

You are 100% on the money! Most people I see view things in the short run and try to take every opportunity to promote or hype themselves instead of building credibility by helping others achieve their goals.

100 Bucks a week is pretty easy. She could do that no problem. I would recommend for her to just put in an hour a day. Make it a hobby at first, until your in a position to make it your full time job. Great response, to her question.

What’s very refreshing Garry is that you’ve not told this struggling mother that she can make $1000’s easily if she builds a blog. The countless thousands that have tried and failed are testament to that. But, you have told her that she could realistically replace her $100 a week wage with a little time and effort, writing about something she knows and understands. Once she grasps the basics and creates her routine for keeping her blog interesting and up to date, then who knows where she could take it. But start with one step and a time. Building small realistic goals that are achievable.

It sure is possible to make $100 per week from a blog but before you start seeing money there is a lot of things you need to do.A mother with 7 kids has not the luxury of working with her blog 8 hours per day like many others have.

I do feel for her too. And I agree with Chris, your response is great. You didn’t let her expect too much but told her just the answer to her question. And when she tries well, she’ll be in for a lot of surprises!

Does a free Wordpress Blog have a mailing list? Yes. It's best if you can also interact with your readers. I also have a part time job right now. I hope it won't kill me too! haha.. ^^ But seriously, That's what all we wanted, more time with our family while earning money. That's a good suggestion. :) If I can also have my free time..as in a long freeeee time, I will attend to my blog and see what can i do to make it profitable. Thanks again!
