How To Make Money Online Using FaceBook?
FaceBook is very popular and has a lot of daily traffic, but it is completely different than a search engine and in many ways much more different than any other social network. You may be wondering how you can make money online using FaceBook and while I think that it is possible to do so, I think more that money generated from FaceBook isn’t quite what most people expect.
FaceBook, for the most part, consists of close clicks among friends, real friends at that too. Friends that people have known for years. FaceBook is a place where friends snoop around at what others are doing and it is a place where you update your status to let your friends have a glimpse at the silly, crazy, or dramatic things you are doing.
For folks, such as bloggers, who want to make money online, commonly they make attempts to join into these clicks and fit in while also at the same time force feed their propaganda onto the people they befriend. This is a common practice within most social networks, but with FaceBook, it is one of the least effective.
For those who have it in their mind that they want to make money online using FaceBook, you have to consider what it is that FaceBook can do for you? For me, I can’t say that FaceBook directly adds money to my pocket, but I can say that over the last few weeks I have really had a lot of fun using the network.
Of all the social networks I participate in, FaceBook is quickly becoming my favorites and also one that I have willingly unplugged from my business. Ironically, the minute I did that is when I started to see a huge increase in traffic coming into my blog. Strangely, this is the complete opposite of what I do with most all social networks.
While at this time, FaceBook doesn’t serve as any form of monetary value for my business, I can say that it does act as a source of incoming traffic, but once again, that traffic only started to flow into my blog the minute I started to use the network as it was designed for.
Here are my thoughts and advice. In order to make money online with FaceBook, you need to use the network the way it was designed to be used. You need to hook up with old friends and invest time into meeting new ones. You need to be yourself and allow your personality to shine and stay active within the site. These and a few other things, such as not flooding the network with promotional content, can earn you traffic to your blog. If your blog is one that is designed to make money online, then the traffic will convert.
With that said, good or bad, what experiences can you share about FaceBook?

Facebook is a great tool, and I have lost many friends to it–however, I had to ditch it due to the fact that companies love browsing the profiles of potential employees. This is a problem when friends keep tagging you in pictures that you wouldn’t want the boss seeing. Even if there isn’t anything to be worried about on your profile, I still think why give them ANY reason? Hell, maybe one of the favorite bands listed in my profile is considered the anti-christ in some employer’s eyes. Don’t want that happening.
On the other hand, after I get a job FB is fair game.

Mike, you bring up a very good point. Folks don’t realize that employers these days are going straight to google and searching the internet for the dirt on potential employees.

Dude in all my innocence it didn’t even occur to me that you’re a make money online CONN! That’s too funny and now you’ve conveniently made that association for any of us who didn’t realize it….duh. You should really spin that up into a domain. Get people’s attention with reverse psychology!
It took me over a year to get into Facebook. I had one friend on there for a year and then bing, bang, boom…all of a sudden I have almost 50. People I know, people I don’t, I just like it. It’s a fun break, lots of ways to connect and have fun. People start to wonder about ya and then they start clicking links. Facebook grew on me, too.

I agree. I have been a member of FaceBook since it started as a college networking site, and in my experiences, people on FaceBook are interested in connecting with old friends as well as new ones. Sending out offers on FaceBook, most will get ignored… however, starting networking groups and using those networks to send offers may be the way to go.

I agree with Jeannie that Facebook is the kind of thing that grows on you. At first I thought it was just for teenagers with nothing to do (I really didn’t like all the app and games requests). Then I started appreciating little things like comments in friend feeds. Anyway, if people are using Twitter for marketing, then Facebook is fair game too, just be careful of spam.

I just started on Facebook like 2 days ago, literally, but based on what I’m seeing, the best way is to do like you said — use it in a manner that is consistent with how it’s intended to be used. If you provide services online, Facebook can be a goldmine, especially if you choose to associate with your friends, some of your clients, and some people who fit your audience well. I’ve seen this benefit already. As far as clickthroughs from your profile to your website — I’m not sure how that’d go, but I’m sure it’d work — it works well on Twitter, and anybody can follow you on Twitter. Though, I haven’t found the place to put my website’s link on Facebook.
Also, there’s a new app that I’m testing out:
http://apps.facebook.com/referquest/
It’s a referral-based system, but it’s a lot different than traditional affiliate programs — it’s real people looking for real things, and if you help them find what they’re looking for, you can get paid. I haven’t been looking a lot, yet, but this seems to be one of the only things on Facebook of it’s kind. If there’s something else like this, I would like to know about it. (I’ve subscribed via emai).
