How To Use The Google AdWords Keyword Tool

In this article I am going to show you how to use the Google AdWords Keyword Tool to find topics and keywords to write about that in return will make you money online. As you know, there are quite a few topics that you can write about that will enable you to make money online. I tend to choose topics that monetize well using Yahoo Publisher, Google Adsense and other similar ad serving programs.

As a quick example, one topic that does not monetize very well is the WordPress topic. If you want to make money online by writing content that you plan to monetize, writing content related to the topic of  WordPress really isn’t your best choice. You can clearly see this in the screen shot provided. Take a look at this screen shot below:

The above screen shot is from Google AdWords Keyword Tool. As you can see, the topic of WordPress is not ideal if you plan to monetize the content later using Google AdSense or other similar programs. With that said, The Google AdWords Keyword Tool is a great tool to use for discovering various topics to write about. The Google AdWords Keyword Tool allows you to discover four elements that are very important to know when researching keywords.

Hi Garry,

I see on your optical blog that you link out to two large eyeglasses companies. Do you think that this is good for SEO purposes? I have resisted linking to places on my money blogs thinking someone might leave my blog through that link instead of my adsense link. Do you think that I should be linking out to top resources within my niche?

2 Gerald { 08.28.08 at 7:37 am }

Great info Garry.

That free Google tool, the new free Google Insights tool, and the great Micro Niche Finder software that I bought on your recommendation (yes, of course from your affiliate link) should keep one in the money with keyword selection.

Your comparison between Wordpress and eyeglasses really hammers home how important it is to go with money keywords. Super job.

Some good advice on Google AdWords Keyword Tool here Garry, I’ve recently started looking at it myself combined with MNF, which from a recent email should start using this information in the upcoming new version!

Cheers!

Hi Fred,

That is an excellent question to ask. Google encourages publishers to build web sites and blogs that are friendly for people. With that said, if you have external resources that you want to share with your readers but don’t because you want to hoard all the link juice, then that I believe has adverse affects on your web site or blog.

I think any web site that openly shares a blend of external links and references provides a better service to the readers. Also, I haven’t really documented or charted this, but in my experience, it would seem like more of the sites that do this are the ones that also do better in Google.

My advice to you is to build your web site or blog as if Google didn’t even exist. You build your web site or blog in a way that you feel is best for your readers. If you do that, then success with Google should follow.

Hi Zath,

Micro Niche Finder Version 4 is out and available. You can read my article here: http://www.garryconn.com/top-reasons-why-you-should-download-micro-niche-finder.php and learn all about the new and amazing features that came included with this update.

The great thing I like about Micro Niche Finder is it that you will always get free version updates at no additional cost. Over a year ago, I paid my $67 dollars for this software, and it is mine to keep for ever and I get free updates for life.

Hi Mr. Javo,

For sure… researching keywords can either make you or break you. It is very important to research keywords rather than just randomly build niche blogs not knowing how well they perform and pay.

Good info Garry, I know, that’s redundant…

Do you find any big discrepancies between the returns from micronichefinder and Google Adwords tool?

I know they are different, but I use mnf tool every day and find it very helpful.

Thanks.

21 uzoma { 11.05.08 at 11:56 pm }

I agree with you Gonnie Google adword tools are by far the best you can use around and because its the number one search engine site around it helps you bring out the best for your website that way you have an edge over your competitors, the only fear I have is that you need to work extra hard to get the best for your site since you are competing with millions

To add to this, you can also use the show/hide column to display the avg. cpc for each term. If you take 10% of that, it will give you an idea of how much you as a publisher could make per click. So if you pick a niche that has an average CPC of $1, you would earn about 10 cents. If you find a niche that is upwards of $5, you could earn 50 cents. That can help you decide whether that niche is right for you.

Hi Rich,

Yes, there is always going to be differences between most all keyword research programs. Really the best thing to do is try to overlook that and cross reference as much as you can.

Be sure to read this post if you haven’t already done so. I think it will help a lot:

Morning G, good Article there. One question for you. How much importance do you place in analyzing the competition for phrases or the strength of competition. What Ive run into a few times is finding a gem or two but the sites that are ranking for those phrases have high PR. I mean 3+ which makes it difficult to compete for the phrase. Some phrases I have found which looked good, had the first above the fold listings in google at pr 4’s

I am looking for some advice on the Google tool, I wonder if you can help.

I often search and there are 1000’s of results displayed in the Approx Avg Search Volume column yet the data from the previous month is “Insufficient Data”.

This does not make logical senses to me as how can there be no search volume (Insufficient data) during previous months if there are 1000’s on an average month.

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

The Google Tool is excellent. It’s almost as good as someone from Google revealing exactly what you have to do to make money. You just need to master inputing certain parameters and analyzing the data for each project.

41 Stefanos { 10.13.09 at 8:31 am }

AdWords is a great tool for generating keyword ideas. Web CEO, Google insights, Google Trends and Google AdPlanner are also great for evaluating the data.
