I Need Online Video Software and Stuff… anyone know about this crap?
Ok, so I guess I have to let the cat out of the bag here… well, just a little bit. I am not telling everyone just quite what I have up my sleeve. However, I do need some help with something. I need to figure out what the common software is that pretty much everyone is using to make YouTube videos. I mean the works too. I am getting a green screen hung up and I intend to use a background, etc…
I have a digital camera that will do fine for now, eventually I’ll upgrade something better. However, what I have now should work fine. Here are the specs:
Video capture:
- Format: QUICKTIME video format MPEG4
- Quality: HD (1280 × 720) at 30 fps, VGA (640 × 480) at 30 fps, QVGA (320 × 240) at 30 fps
So, really what I need to know is what kind of software do I need to download? Any suggestions? Any one out here pretty savvy with YouTube and such?
Thanks for the help in advanced, drop me a comment.

I like and occasionally use camtasia, JK uses a free one maybe he’ll chime in here and say which, I asked and then forgot.
Then theres the mac option not too sure what they come with but Ive seen some pretty tube vids done with out of the box mac stuff.
From your specs Im guessing you’re planning on doing DVD’s?
How many people really have HD monitors? be interesting to know that.
Man I cant wait to see what you’ll put up on that green screen !!!!

I’m not a video expert either, but not sure what you mean, Garry. You mean for screen-capture? If so, Camtasia is the standard.
If you mean how do you get the video from your camera to YouTube, you just transfer it from your camera’s memory card onto your computer, then login to YouTube and upload it.
When it comes to video I am what most
would call a ninja.
If you want to really do some great
productions you’ll have to look into
“Adobe Premiere” for editing (they
have an entry-level version called
‘premiere elements’ which will most
likely work fine for you).
Then to REALLY take your productions
to the next level, you’ll want to get
what people call the “photoshop of
video”… it’s a program called
“Adobe After Effects”.
You can get both of those at Adobe.com
or at Amazon.com (for a discount).
For training on those look into either
lynda.com (the monthly membership will
work best while you get things going)
or to totaltraining.com
Another AMAZING resource to learn about
after effects is videocopilot.net
There… You have a lot of stuff to learn
and play with. =)
Enjoy!

If you’re talking about video editing software there are a number of different proframs that you can try.
Most manufacturers have two versions with the more expensive one having more capability. That being said some of the “lite” versions are very good. Additionally most manufacturers will allow you to download a fully functional thirty day trial.
If you’re using XP/Vista I highly reccomend Sony Vegas Movie Studio. It runs around $80 and will do everything you need it to and more. Also take a look at Adobe Premiere Elements. Additionally Movie Maker comes with every machine running XP/Vista.
In you’re using OS X you can try Final Cut Express or use i-movie which is included with the machine.
