I Want To Make Yahoo! My Home Again, But They Have A Decision To Make First Before That Can Happen
As many of you guys know, I have been really getting back into Yahoo! again. I really enjoy everything they have been doing with their site so far this year and I feel very much at home when I am logged into my Yahoo! Personalized page.
Recently, I decided to sign up for a new account with Yahoo! to give me a nice new beginning if you want to call it that and I signed up for a new email address using my personal name @ YMail.com. I have use Gmail for a about two years now and I am getting a little bored with Google, just to be honest.
So with that said, I have started to make the switch over to Yahoo! but there is one problem. When I created my account, I accidently used 1988 as my date of birth rather than 1977. There is no way for me to change this, so about a week ago, I contacted Yahoo! about it.
They were quick to respond back; however, the person that responded back said that she couldn’t help me. She asked me to invest more of my personal time towards filling out yet another online form to re-explain my issue.
I decided to push forward and invest the time into filling out the online form once again, hoping that this time it would get delivered to the right person. About five days later, I received a generic reponse from Steve who basically duplicated the documentation already found on Yahoo!’s web site, which basically says, if you screw up your birthday, there is nothing they can do for you.
So… I responded back to Steve and explained to him that I want to make a new home again with Yahoo! I also explained to him that I have been using Google services for about two years and prior to using Google I was a primary Yahoo! user.
I further explained to him that I’d like to make Yahoo! my home again; however, it REALLY BUGS ME that I accidentally filled out my birthday incorrectly and that I just can’t make a new home with Yahoo while having to live with that mistake.
I asked Steve if he would please make an exception to the rule. I also explained to Steve, that I have a popular blog and I speak very highly of Yahoo! to my Pro-Google readers and left him a link to my site.
So, here we are… Mr. Steve and Mr. Yahoo! can you please fix my my birthday so that I can start a new life with Yahoo! or, should I just continue to use Google instead? Choice is yours…

I hope Steve reads this
Ah 1977 – What a great year. That is when I graduated from high school. Technology was just starting to break out to mainstream and I had a polyester suit for my senior class picture.
For graduation I got a Texas Instruments Digital Calculator with red led read out and could do the basic 6 math ops. WOW ..that and my led readout digital watch. I was totally geeked out for 1977.
Only wish I would have had the foresight to invest my graduation gift money into that odd little company called Microsoft.
Oh well………… 1977 a classic year.
Talk about investing personal time into something. I can’t believe I invested time into reading this post!
You have some valuable content here Garry but I looked through the archives. You cry a lot about the stupidest things.
Here you go…
Here is a better blog for you to read:

Anyone else want to complain? Seriously, I could give a shit less.
lol
Why? Do you think he’ll pull some strings?
Great comment. Thanks for sharing. I checked out your blog, I’ll be back. Take care.
You think that you are the greatest thing since sliced bread don’t you?
Don’t let the success if this blog get to your head. You think by telling Yahoo that you tell you readers about them will make them change your stupid birthday?
Wow buddy, time to give your head a shake.
Thanks for the link. John Chow is a much better read. A lot less crying going on over there. Still a bit cocky but no thumb sucking.
Nah… but I do like to stir things up a bit. I’ve obviously made you feel compelled to give me free content on my blog.
I am glad that you think my blog is a success. Thanks.
Nope. But, hey I can always try right?
I know right! I am considering using Yahoo over Google. Something must be wrong with my brain. LOL!!!
Then why are you still here?
Probably not. But it’d be funny if he read it…
I agree. I think it would be entertaining. But I am hoping they fix my account for me. Ideally, that would be great.
What do you care? If Gary actually gets them to reverse the problem then he objective is complete. If you don’t like his blog, like he said, just don’t read it.
Hah, hopefully this gets indexed and ranks high. I think the flames will help this post fire right to the top. Seriously I like Yahoo’s services but their web page is too bulky. I wouldn’t really care about the birthday but depending on your birthday you might not be 21 yet which could be a problem if they filter out alcohol and ultra-porn (futurama) content that is not available to under 21 year olds.
Again, with Google I needed some information changed that “Couldn’t be changed” and they elevated my support ticket and got it changed. I would assume that yahoo has a policy to do the same thing.

I left Yahoo! because of all the BS they try to shove into their services. Now I’m going back only to find the same type of ‘crap’ on their site.
I still don’t like Yahoo!…good luck bud.

Hi Wayne,
Do you mind sharing some examples of your findings?
Hey Gary. Just start over and instead of using GaryConn@ymail, just use Gary.Conn@ymail. Why not? It’s just a dot right?

Uh oh. Sorry about the misspelling. Um, my “r” button is broken? lol

Yeah! Haven’t they ever heard the song, “It’s my blog and I can cry if I want to!!!!” LOL
Oh…and now I hope everyone is singing that in their head all day! :p
Hah. It’s funny how a minor detail like this gets overlooked. Now your new birthdate is part of your “permanent record”.
I suspect it’s something to do with the COPA laws, where Yahoo! is compelled to verify age.

It’s because they are to friggin lazy to run a SQL query like:
UPDATE users SET birthday = ‘the right one’ WHERE user = ‘Gary Conn’;
Seriously, I feel your pain. This kind of stupidity really gets on my nerves. I’d stick with Google just because of the headache.
Hi Jonathan,
Yes indeed… Yahoo blew me off. Which is stupid. Even though they say my date of birth is private, by default it shows my age in many places such as my profile page. So with me being represented FALSELY as 21 years old, I am going to attract groups of people within that age group rather that people within my own age group.
To be honest, I am actually quite pissed off about this situation. Yahoo knows about this problem and they also know about this post too and they chose to blow me off. I won’t let it bother me too bad, but it just goes to show you what Yahoo! is willing to do to keep a customer.
I don’t want the dot.
