Increase Blog Traffic With Google Image Search
How many times in a week do you search for images in Google Image Search? For bloggers, those numbers may be very high. I know that I use Google Image Search quite a bit when I need to find a picture to use for a blog post. And the reason why I know that Google Image Search can increase your blog traffic is because I can see the stats myself.
I use a lot of images on my blog and people are finding these images in Google Image Search. What they do from there, it’s hard to tell. By for people concerned about increasing numbers, then getting traffic from Google Image Search is a snap. A lot of blog authors are interested in increasing their traffic, I am too!
One thing I want to mention about getting traffic from Google Image Search is this – consider what your own behaviors are when searching for images. What happens when you find what you want? Do you drop a comment and tell the person, thanks for the image? Do you ever return for another visit? Majority of people will say no.
Having that said, some people still think traffic is traffic and that it may just look good in your traffic reporting stats, such as if you’re trying to resell or flip a domain. If you want to take advantage of Google Image Search and get your images and pictures to pull up first over everyone else, the remainder of this article will show you a few tricks in order to do so.
Name the images exactly what it is. If the image is of an opened laptop, then name it opened-laptop.jpg rather than just naming it laptop.jpg. If it is a black laptop you could name it, black-laptop-opened.jpg and so forth. The key to remember is giving your image an accurate name that describes it in about 2 to 4 words, three words seems to be the sweet spot.
There are quite a few other tricks of the trade with scoring more traffic from Google Image search. I’ll be happy to cover a follow up post if the interest level demands it. I learned this a while back and do it all the time with my celebrity block. I get a lot of google image hits on certain celebrities and LOVE it.
Now if I could just make money from that. hehe. But it is fun to watch which celebrity photo will bring in the traffic.

I don’t use Google Image Search anymore – I much prefer Flickr. I didn’t really ‘get’ flickr until earlier this year, but I love that I can search through the photos, “fave” the ones I like, and add a comment saying how much I like the person’s photography. It does take a little more work to find the right picture than when using Google, but I’ve noticed that many popular bloggers are using flickr images effectively to spice up their posts.

I would most definitely be interested in reading more about tricks you can do with pictures for better results. I’ve been guilty of not paying attention to this detail until recently, so please do share.
Also if some of these pictures are the content of some website, how do you go about copyrights? same thing with flickr. I’ve used photos from free sources only after making sure their terms specifically say you can use it to publish as long as you don’t resell it, but it seems like on google and flikr this isn’t always clear, as far as being able to use the pix on your own site.
I was meaning to cover that in the post about Flickr and copyrights. With Google Image Search, it is about near impossible to figure out who has rights to the images. The images you find through Google Image Search, it would seem the the site using the image got it from somewhere else and that site got it from somewhere else, etc…
However, with Flickr, people need to be careful about that. Many Flickr users take pride in the pictures they upload into their accounts and would really appreciate having credit for the shot. I believe that there is a proper process for using pictures in Flickr. If I am not mistaken, Flickr provides people with the HTML code to use for blogs or web pages. That HTML code should link back to the Flickr home page and or the page of the owner of the picture.
If you use Flickr, for finding pics on your blog, I would make it an effort to provide a link back to the person’s account page who made the picture available and as I said with Google Image Search, trying to find the source of the picture is near impossible so I guess it wouldn’t matter. I mean it does… but what can you do?
I forgot where I read about this before, but I think it was here. I have been trying to name my uploaded images rather than changing the filename. It has been working a lot better

Hey I’ll try that tip. I have lots of pics in my blog, but they never show up in google image search. I guess I’ll have to rename those pics.

I realized that i should rename my images now. It has been quite awhile that i have been using images in my posts and definitely i will rename my images now. And i have only been using free images that do not have copyright.
