Is Article Marketing Worth The Time?
For me I am not much into article marketing. I would much rather invest the time towards creating content for my blog or web site rather than submit the content into various article directories.
I have never used article directories before in the past and I have no problem making money online without it. So I want to leave this as an open discussion. Is article marketing worth the time? What are your thoughts? Below is a copy of an email sent in from Adam Mlynarcik from Creadiv.com.
Hi Garry,
I’m Adam Mlynarcik phonetically said Men-Are-Sick from creadiv.com. I was hoping you could take some time to answer a question I have. On my most successful niche site traffic is growing at a pretty good rate, but I would like to try to get some extra exposure for it by starting another link building campaign.
I have done the link directory submissions, a few link swaps with related sites, and am now looking into article marketing. Would you tell me if you think it is worth the time? Am I going to see the benefit and new incoming links from writing 5-10 articles for different directories, or do you think my time would be better spent just writing 5-10 new articles for the site itself.
I look forward to hearing what you have to say.
Thanks
Adam

Garry,
Thanks so much for addressing the question so quickly, much faster than expected. I have bookmarked the blog you suggested and will be definitely studying up on the subject. I have written a couple of posts for the campaign that are geared toward primary keywords with a few links back to my site because I am skeptical of writing anything with the long term as it may actually take search traffic away from the site that I am already getting on the terms.
I guess that is my biggest concern. Will the links that I build and the clicks that I get be worth the time of writing the articles, and the risk of actually competing with myself for search traffic?
I promise to find a good answer and if I do I will let you know too.
Adam
PS… I have been slow to being “conned” in the past but I find myself enjoy the blog more and more as I build my niche portfolio with your help. That and Freddie Taylor is brainwashing me into a believer. Thanks.
Adam,
I’ve always been a fan of article marketing. I’ve used them for the site in my by-line as well as another site that I won’t disclose. For the above site, I’ve been able to rank well for non to low competitive terms. I generally go with the more well known sites like Ezinearticles and goarticles, as well as, a few others.
I just think having a link foot print from multiple sources keeps me from worrying about having all of my eggs in one basket.
Of course, article marketing is worth our time. The results may not come in overnight, but this can help in creating a name online.
I have just started on the road of article marketing and having read about other people who seemed to have been successful, I hope that I can also duplicate their achievements.
Adam,
Article Marketing for backlinks is not as powerful as it used to be back in 2004+. I would still recommend you submit a few articles to 10-15 directories for the reason that –
1. Some links are better than no links.
2. It is always good to have a mix of strong backlinks and weak backlinks to give a “natural” picture to Google about your link profile.
3. If your keywords are ones with low competition, then even links from article sites can help. My personal experience.
Hope that helps.
I think article marketing is very beneficial in terms of building backlinks for your website. The main thing you want to do is build as many strong backlinks as possible. Stick with the authority article directories like EzineArticles and GoArticles. Spreading your articles out to other directories is a good idea as well for the reasons Dave mentioned.
Another way for your backlinks to look “natural” is by varying your anchor text. Google prefers to see variations in the incoming links you have.
If you have a particular website you want to rank well for particular keywords, article marketing is an easy way to get on the first page of Google. However, article marketing should be just one strategy among others to build quality backlinks.

Varied but relevant anchor text is very important. I have used Google’s Webmasters Tools to check how I’m doing in that regard.
Article Marketing is still alive and well. I have always thought that a combination of website marketing strategies is the best way to go. I have used article marketing, blogs, forums, directories and search engines in the past and with good results.
In my opinion, article marketing is the easiest way to get back-links from relevant webpages because the author decides what is relevant.
One well-written article is better than two mediocre articles. Webmasters, bloggers and newsletter publishers aren’t just writers, they are readers too!
Cheers!

Article marketing is pretty tricky. There is a lot to it and it is time consuming. I've had some articles that have ranked really well, but even when they do, there is no guarantee that readers will click on your link at the bottom of the page and even less of a chance that they will click on your Adsense or buy something from an affiliate link.
