Isn’t It Kind of Stupid For Google To Work On Other Things With Google Chrome Before Making It Available For Mac and Linux?
Google really kind of bugs me on this one. Earlier this year, I purchased my first MacBook computer. Needless to say, I feel in love instantly with the computer but was also torn because I had to break my relationship with Google Chrome. You see, Google Chrome isn’t available for Mac users. In fact, it isn’t even available for Linux users either.
My rant was manifested immediately after catching up with reading on the Google Chrome blog. I clicked next, next, next a few times in Google Readers and realized, why in the hell aren’t they making any effort towards getting Google Chrome available for Mac computers, or Linux ones for that matter? Instead they’re going to brag other feeble new features that Google Chrome can do. Honestly, it’s been months since I have used Google Chrome, but last time I used the web browser, it couldn’t even auto discover RSS feeds.
So what the hell Google? Can we seriously try a little harder to stay focused? I think it’s more sensible to develop a web browser that can work on all platforms first and then start enhancing it with bells and whistles. Am I really the only one who feels this way? Surely not.

Hi Garry,
I use chrome on Linux daily, there is also a mac build available, you just have to use the dev channel.

You are not the only one who feels that way. I'm on a Mac and am also frustrated. But you have to understand Google's logic. Their goal is NOT to create a browser. Their goal is to create a framework via a browser that houses an operating system that is web-based. As such their primary goal right now has to be to create a fast-tracked PC browser that they can get pre-installed on new laptops and desktop hardware. The PC version of Chrome came out of Beta in just nine months, which is unheard of for Google, who had their Gmail product in Beta for four years.
They are not likely to get Apple to agree to allow Chrome to be pre-installed on Mac hardware, so they are going after the PC market, which is larger and easier to penetrate with a pre-install on hardware. Keep in mind that their END GOAL is NOT to create a killer browser that beats all others on all platforms. Their end goal is to get wide penetration in the market of Chrome as quickly as possible so they can put their operating system on it.
As such, Mac users are but a blip on the radar. This is REALLY ironic too, considering that both of the founders of Google use MacBook Pros!
Very sad, but very true. I read that we will see a Beta version of Chrome for Mac by end of this year, so in the next 90 days. Until then there is a developer version that is “ok”. It's fast, but that's about it.
