Hi Jim!

You know... sometimes things are just simply fun and exciting... Some things make you say, "Oh wow... that was cool" etc.. I like these type of posts and usually 9 out of 10 times, these are the things that go viral and end up getting a lot of exposure.

You know, this might seem off topics, but I like watching Digg. It amazes me to see which posts make it to their home page and which ones do not. Same thing with YouTube.com, its a total trip to witness which videos get a million views while others that in many ways seem to serve a better purpose don't.

Having that said, I think one can study patterns in Digg and YouTube to get a better scope of what users want provided to them. But then again, as the about commentators have said: moderation is the key, and there is a balance. I agree too with what you say in reference to trash talking, ranting and bitching about other bloggers. I think there is a right place and a wrong place for stuff like that. Thanks for dropping the comment man. :)

I've not done any deliberate link baiting...but I will in the future. However, I agree with the comments that it needs to be done in moderation. I also believe it needs to be on topic to your blog. Not like a recent political post I saw on a "make money online" blog.

Finally, there are some types of link baiting that I will not partake in...such as trashing other bloggers for a response. Not my thing.

@ Randy,

Sorry bud!! I missed yours:

Unfortunately some people go a bit overboard and end up making themselves look bad.

I agree totally... so where is the line between something being acceptable and something being over board? How far can a blogger push the envelope and not get burned? I look forward to hearing the thoughts from everyone who is reading this.

@ Cristian,

You are talking more about baiting popular blog authors... yes, indeed that is one type of link bait practice and sometimes can be very effective. Some popular bloggers tend to jump a little on the emotional side and fall right for these tricks. When this happens the person that set the bait wins because they got what they wanted... traffic. But again, what does this do for your reputation? Thanks for dropping me a comment, I look forward to you coming back and responding again.

@ Wayne Liew,

I am not going to ignore you... LOL!!! Like I said in the video, I too have mixed emotions about these tactics. I can't help but recognize how damn effective this has been for others. However, I must also question the effects this has on reputation. In a few instances I have seen just in the last month involving three bloggers I know and read, the bait was taken, traffic poured in, but the end result was total loss of respect and trust.

I believe as you mentioned about consolidating the news into one post, perhaps that is a very legitimate baiting practice that actually adds great content into broadcast. So, all in all... I think you are trying to say that it is ok to use these tactics as long as their is a respectable and useful balance within. Would I be right to guess that from your comment?

Linkbait by creating controversies and causing ripples over the blogosphere with some evil acts will definitely stay far from my blog building plans because as you said in your videos about authority and reputation. For those who are using their actual names to blog online, I am sure that they don't want their names being related to bad words about them.

I find linkbait can be a quality content as well, not necessary an attempt to do something "wild". Quality contents and news-breaking attempts are positive ways to bait links as well. I guess, for those who have the flair in the niche which they are blogging about, they should go for this direction rather than the "wild" way.

However, the "wild" is something that is fun to do. Ignore me if you find me contradicting in some ways.

I think that link-bait when it's properly done can be one of the most powerful weapons in a blogger's arsenal. It's true that if the "big fishes" don't bite the bait, then your authority might be hurt. Interesting question Garry.

Only if it is a natural brown cardboard box. Those bleach hite boxes are bad for the environment ;-)

The cash sponsorships start at 10K. I will email you a price/return sheet for you to look over. Let me know what you think.

Hey Thor, I have been considering it... 2007 has been a great year for me and I do have the money to invest and think it would be well worth doing so. What is the going rate now a days for Top Affiliate Challenge? I was going to use my money saved in 2007 for the new baby... but, I am sure that Angie won't mind the baby sleeping in a card board box. (Joking) Anyway, you do have my interest... drop me a comment back or call me, or both. :)

Thanks for the support Garry. I really appreciate it. You should really consider becomming a sponsor of the show. Give me a call or shoot me an email and I will send over pricing if you are interested. This thing is going to be huge - bigger than any one even imagines now.
