Concrete Advice For Making Money Online With Niche Blogs

Free Web Designs

According to Wikipedia, concrete curbing is the process of adding a raised concrete edge to a street, walkway or paved path. A concrete curb is used for both cosmetic purposes, safety and to aid in proper drainage of a roadway.

According to the results found in the Google AdWords keyword tool, creating a niche blog about concrete curbing can make you some very decent money. The search term concrete curbing receives an average of 6,600 searches in Google per month. Google AdWords advertisers are paying up to $4.63 per click. The concrete curbing search result page in Google has only 527,000 search results making the base competition relatively low. Scanning the results on the serp page shows me that many of the sites listed aren’t very optimized in terms of SEM and SEO. Let’s take a closer look:

Google AdWords Keyword Tool

In this screen shot you can see that keywords related to the term “Concrete Curbing” have an estimated Avg. CPC of $4.64 and have an average monthly search count of 6,600. Additionally, you can see that this niche also has some excellent material for multiple articles.

Ok so I was the first person to probably read this post and I could have stolen the domain name from somebody, but I’m being cool and letting somebody else grab it.

You would be stupid not to grab this people. Register the domain, find a basic WordPress theme, get some posts written up and then some article submissions. You should start seeing some results in about 2 weeks max.

2 The Net Fool { 09.28.08 at 11:06 pm }

Great article Garry, finding a needle in the haystack seems to be your forte! I would register this domain now, but I need to get my AdSense account back before I even dream of trying that one, haha. To the next reader! :)

Don’t have to use AdSense, sign up with Yahoo! Or any other affiliate network out there, you don’t have to use AdSense necessarily.

Check out Jarret’s last blog post..Week In Review – September 21-27

4 Garry Conn { 09.28.08 at 11:21 pm }

Very true… also, you can easily get another AdSense account too if you wanted. But, I don’t think AdSense is your primary focus in making money online. Of course, if PPC and affiliate product marketing doesn’t work for you Jim, you can always get into the concrete curbing business. ;)

5 Garry Conn { 09.28.08 at 11:21 pm }

Can I go ahead and buy it?

6 Jarret { 09.28.08 at 11:54 pm }

Go ahead, am I gonna have to write about it? ;)

7 Garry Conn { 09.28.08 at 11:59 pm }

Hmm… do you want to write about it? I know what you are talking about, and we can do that… ;)

I am really wanting to be a nice guy and let someone get that domain name, but “hot damn” I can’t wait much longer. ;)

Of course it doesn’t help much posting this around midnight either… hehe, or did I do that on purpose. lol

8 Jarret { 09.29.08 at 12:07 am }

Do you want me to want to write about it?

Haha, I don’t care man, if you buy it I’ll write it ;)

9 Michael { 09.29.08 at 12:59 am }

OK Garry – I’ll bite. One question: how the heck to you come up with the starting point like this? I understand all the parameters that make a good niche, but concrete curbing? I would have never thought of that on my own in a million years!!! Where does your inspiration come from?

Thanks for the tip on this. I’ll follow up with you in a few weeks and let you know how it’s going ;-) .

10 Mark Sierra at MeAndMyDrum.com { 09.29.08 at 1:09 am }

Hey bud, can you explain why this is a good choice when the competition bar on Google’s keyword tool is so high? I would have passed on that fact alone.

11 Make Money Blogging { 09.29.08 at 1:09 am }

It’s good to find out the really good niche around. Regarding the niche “Concrete curbing”, it’s really hard to write out something if we don’t really know what is that. Maybe I’m not the expert to write anything else yet, perhaps Garry you can do it, I know you’re an expert in make money blogging. =)

I realized that one of the comment I dropped in one of your post was missing, even the post also lost. =.=”

I feel so sorry, I saw you change your themes. Is it because of ….?

12 Garry Conn { 09.29.08 at 1:20 am }

Hi Michael,

Congrats on the domain name purchase. My inspiration comes from always questioning the common and overlooked things in life I guess. I just see everything as a blog post.

Today I was taking my daughter for a walk and was just gazing at the curb and wondered what the process was for creating the concrete curb. City workers were repairing an area of the curb near by the park and it intrigued me.

The same goes with many things that are commonly overlooked such as Doorbell Replacement, Used Toyota Parts, Cheap Home Security Systems, Camping Equipment Deals, Wholesale Pool Supplies, etc…

Hell, Toenail Clippers gets an average of 4,400 searches per month, yields around $1.60 CPC and the domain name Toenail-Clippers.net is available. Really the only limitation at this point is how much are you willing to write.

In the case of the concrete curbing niche blog, I’d write around 10 articles, post five immediately and schedule the remaining five to post once per week. The blog making as little as a dollar per day would make me am happy. Seriously… that is $365 dollars / year for a domain name that cost less than $10 dollars. A basic HostGator.com account can run around 100 or more of these smaller niche blogs at $9.95/ month.

Congrats again on the purchase and let me know if you need any help.

13 Garry Conn { 09.29.08 at 1:24 am }

Because you can’t always trust instruments and gauges. If you did that, then U571 would have been sunk for sure from the barrel bombs being dropped on her.

Look at these ads:

AdWords advertisers are just screaming out to people, “Please Blog About My Business, Product and Service!”

Competition? There is no competition. When I said look at the bar and MISS on the FULL GREEN, that is because typically if there is AdWords Competition there is Publisher Competition in the SERPS… However, the real jewel in niche blogging is when you find AdWords advertisers beating the shit out of each other to get their ad to pull up over others when the supply for content doesn’t meet the demand for ads. ;)

Here is another way to look at it. Back in highschool when you and 9 other friends are looking for a girlfriend but it only seems like the the boy to girl ratio is 10 to 1… ten boys to one girl. Who’s going to be the lucky guy to get the girl? Of course, we’re talking about highschool now, so then again you know that girl will end up dating all 10 of you guys at one point in time. lol!! But you get the point.

14 Jarret { 09.29.08 at 2:14 am }

Grats Michael on the purchase :)

I am gonna have to keep my eye on this domain over the next week or two to see how well you are doing. As Garry said if you have any questions make sure to ask him.

Garry has taught me a lot about niche blogging so far, I have put his words into action and let me tell you…….he knows his shit when it comes to niche blogging. Take Garry up on his offer, you won’t regret it ;)

Garry,

This is a great article. I find that people only like to write about topics they enjoy. When they do this, they make a serious mistake by not focusing on these more obscure topics.

Nice Article, if you want to know something I have been making money on for at least 3 years now, just look at the picture Garry has, there is another HOT item in the picture, LOL.

Traffic cones! You’re kidding right?

18 Owen { 09.29.08 at 8:52 am }

Whats funny about this is my dad is a tech for a rather large concrete curbing and paving company that makes the machines that do these curbs. “Power Curbers” He travels the world repairing and teaching people how to use them. Its pretty amazing how these things work.

19 Garry Conn { 09.29.08 at 11:22 am }

lol… no don’t get too big of a head, I didn’t change my theme because you told me that you used the same one I had prior. The one I am using now can be purchased if anyone wants a copy. Just visit http://www.the-niche-doctor.com/

20 Garry Conn { 09.29.08 at 11:24 am }

I guess the great thing about me is that I really am intrigued by even the smallest things. With that, I don’t mind researching and learning more. When that happens, then writing about the particular items are very rewarding.

The funny thing about this is that in school, I used to hate writing book reports. Today, doing what I am doing, it isn’t much different and I enjoy it. Go figure. ;)

21 Garry Conn { 09.29.08 at 11:25 am }

Nope… He isn’t kidding one bit. ;)

22 Garry Conn { 09.29.08 at 11:27 am }

Pretty cool Owen… I missed your instant message earlier where you explained that you too also have a few concrete curbing domain names. That is pretty cool.

23 David Cooley { 09.29.08 at 11:43 am }

Give the man a cigar !! AND Garry is right, he knows about this one, lol, NOT KIDDING

Traffic Cones, you have to look at those keywords several ways to find the right ones, but they are there! And Cones are a BIG seller retail, including AMAZON and EBAY. From now on, every time you go somewhere count the cones you see, lol. Roads, Skating Rinks, Racetracks, Horse training, Horse Racing, Driving Schools, etc, etc……

Perfect example of how we try to hard to find the keywords, instead of just looking around with a new perspective!

And, there is also another good one in that picture, although if you studied what Garry said, you would probably find it.

24 Make Money Blogging { 09.29.08 at 12:05 pm }

So shocked to see my comment here Garry! ^^
Sorry for the same themes Garry, I might got to change it when I found a nice 1 again. =)
Garry I have question about the niche that you found, is it you’re able to write whatever popular niche that you found without any experience about the niche?
If I found a popular niche but it’s not my interest, and I totally don’t know what else I can write with that niche, how do you resolve it?
I know you’re expert enough to handle it, right Garry? ^^

25 Make Money Blogging { 09.29.08 at 12:09 pm }

That’s really cool!! I’m working as a Quantity Surveyor (which you all call it “Engineer” in your country if I’m not mistaken). It’s under Construction category as well.
I did do a research on the keyword about “Quantity Surveyor” and many other keywords that related with construction, but that’s not a popular niche. ==”

26 Jarret { 09.29.08 at 3:48 pm }

That’s why Google provides you a listing of the top 10 most relevant sites when you type in a keyword.

Do a search on Google for your keyword, look at a few of the sites, get some ideas ( DONT COPY ) from them, then you can turn those ideas into sentences for your posts ;)

27 Garry Conn { 09.29.08 at 4:48 pm }

What I am failing to understand in this situation is why are you asking me questions if you are already an “expert” with your own make money online blog?

Your most recent post, How To Make Money Online Blogging, OMG!!! Get real dude. So what do you do? Do you troll around other more established MMO blogs such as mine and they reword the articles that we write?

Dude, get a life and blog about something that will help others as well as yourself. If you are coming here asking me questions about trivial things, then it is totally obvious that you don’t know a damn thing about making money online. So, why create a blog and attempt to teach something that you don’t know?

Start a blog about how to be a fake, you’d have better luck with that. Now, tomorrow, if you come back and leave a comment while also leaving a different URL that leads to a blog of a different topic — something you have a passion for — then I might help you. Until then, I have absolutely nothing for you.

28 Garry Conn { 09.29.08 at 4:51 pm }

You will have more luck with that then spinning off yet another make money online blog. When you comment, update your name from Make Money Blogging to your real name, handle, or screen name. I’d like to know who you are rather than just refer to you as a keyword that you obviously don’t know anything about.

29 Eric D { 09.29.08 at 6:54 pm }

As usual Garry you have done an outstanding job explaining a process everyone wants to know about. It is the mark of a true professional who is not beyond sharing the knowledge they have accumulated. Where a lot of other blogs have a lot of fluff, this one has a lot of good info.

By the way…. I am diggin’ the new look of GarryConn.com

Eric

30 KaHoongChai { 09.29.08 at 8:51 pm }

Hmm, okay Garry. I admit that I actually not an expert in MMO, the articles that I wrote is what I learn from you and other expert.

Erm, actually I have intention to create another blog that talks about Quantity Surveyor or construction. Of course I’ll do some research about which keyword is the best for me to optimize before I come to ask you trivial questions.

Thank you Garry for commenting on my current situation, I’m actually need someone to guide me because I am a new guy in blogosphere who start a blog for few months (Start from the same month with Jarret if I’m not mistaken).

Before I start my blog, the niche was Personal Rant and Food. After a few days I change it to “make money blogging”, actually I did heard a lot of comments from others that “make money blog” doesn’t really make money, it’s not recommended to start a blog to talk about “make money online” because I’m not making any money (I did make some money from my blog but not from Adsense, I prefer I can make money through Adsense rather than others). Between, I’m really curious how an expert can create a few different niche blog, how are they going to write and maintain it (Unless they are genius, intelligent and have a lot of experiences on every niche they write).

If Garry you’re willing to teach me, I’m willing to learn. But of course, I’ll do my research to learn more about blogging before asking you trivial questions. =)

Regards,
Lee

SEO is indeed a cost effective marketing effort when compared to traditional selling. Great post.

32 Garry Conn { 09.29.08 at 11:27 pm }

Hmm, okay Garry. I admit that I actually not an expert in MMO, the articles that I wrote is what I learn from you and other expert.

Ok, if that is the case then, what is wrong with this picture:

http://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Amyblog2day.com+%22garry+conn%22

If you don’t know the answer, it’s simple. The link above points to a BLANK page. Meaning, if you have been reading my blog and admit that you have learned from me and then used your blog to communicate to your community what you have learned, you never gave me credit for my work and you never acknowledged me as the person who taught you such wonderful gifts and ideas.

Thank you Garry for commenting on my current situation, I’m actually need someone to guide me because I am a new guy in blogosphere who start a blog for few months (Start from the same month with Jarret if I’m not mistaken).

No problem, all I want in return is credit and recognition for my efforts. Also, using Jarret as a way to find common ground with being new at blogging is a poor choice. That kid has some crazy skills and he is far beyond the typical level of a new blogger.

Before I start my blog, the niche was Personal Rant and Food.

Wrong, that is a lie. You have your food blog on a subdomain name and your last blog post on that blog was on September 1st, 2008.

I did heard a lot of comments from others that “make money blog” doesn’t really make money, it’s not recommended.

So do you usually do the complete opposite of what people recommend? If you knew in advanced the common failure rates of starting a blog about making money online, why did you then ignore this and do it anyway?

If Garry you’re willing to teach me, I’m willing to learn. But of course, I’ll do my research to learn more about blogging before asking you trivial questions.

I love to help people, but on that same token, I am the type of teacher who loves to have the apple put on my desk by a student. In other words, I thrive on credit, I thrive when you tell people that you learned a skill because of what I wrote. As far as asking trivial questions, I enjoy answering trivial questions. However, you too have to understand that I don’t like answering questions that are being asked by people who will then turn right around and use my advice and take credit for it on their own blog.

I do appreciate you coming back and making this comment. It allows me to gain more respect for you. The best thing that you can do to earn even more respect from not only me but also other the entire community is to acknowledge us as the people who have been helping you learn. Really there is NOTHING wrong with having a blog about making money online; however, you have to contribute unique advice, tips and tricks. Your advice and content can’t be things that people have talked about already countless times.

Lee, thanks again for coming back and responding to my initial comment and also thanks for telling me your name.

33 Garry Conn { 09.29.08 at 11:45 pm }

Hi Eric,

I really need to get on over to your blog and check it out more. I appreciate the comments because it keeps triggering my mind to pay you a good visit. You seem like a cool person, oh and also I did get your email from a few days ago. It is very cool to see how as time goes by you stumble upon more and more people who live close to each other.

Also, thanks for the compliment on the new theme. Everyone has “bells and whistle” designs… I have been there, tried it… I don’t know, it’s just not me man. I am stuck in the late 90’s and early 2000’s when the Internet was all about INFORMATION rather than having gloried and flashy designs.

The theme you see here is a modified version of The Niche Doctor WordPress theme, which is a product that my business partner, David Cooley and I offer. It comes with an eBook / instruction manual and a 40+ minute video.

Talk to you soon and headed over to your blog in a few.

34 Garry Conn { 09.29.08 at 11:50 pm }

SEO is the practice of making your web site or blog search engine friendly. I beleive you mean to say, SEM is indeed a cost effective marketing effort.

With that said, I agree with you totally. Slowly major businesses and corporations are starting to see the light on this and taking advantage of it.

35 Mark G. { 09.30.08 at 1:41 pm }

Garry, what do we do when the results from Google and wordtracker don’t match at all. Wordtracker has “concrete curbing” at something like 300 searches per month, as opposed to Google’s 6600.

Also, do you recommend targeting local niches? Using googles keyword tool, when you type in the name of a city and the name of a car manufacturer, say “Dallas Nissan” the CPC is pretty high and the competition is very low. Same with a lot of local stuff. Thanks for all the great information.

36 John Hawks { 09.30.08 at 4:13 pm }

Garry, thanks for articles like this one! I just purchased your WordPress niche site eBook and theme package that you offer … very good info!

Can I ask two questions re your comment in this article about picking domain names? You mentioned that hyphens and suffixes don’t matter much, and I understand that. My questions are these:

(a) How strong are domain names with add-on words like “info” or “my” or “blog” mixed in with the keywords — e.g., “concretecurbinginfo.com,” or “concretecurbingblog.net”? and

(b) How strong are domain names with those really out-there suffixes beyond .com, .net. and .org — e.g., “concretecurbing.me” or “concretecurbing.info”?

You do a great job with your blog — thanks for being so generous with your time in posting ideas like this one!

John

LOL garry, I see you and I have a similar kind of curiousity. Im in the construction trade and almost daily I see something that I am curious about, make a mental note and then go home and start nich-ing it out. For instance look at
dry wall contractors $2.46 for keyword external
Results 1 – 10 of about 1,240,000 for drywall contractors
none have the above mentioned criteria.
Theres big clicks in the construction trade

Hi Garry,

I’m so sorry about I referred your previous articles but never gave you a credits, because I thought that giving too much outbound links that may cause my rank drop down, actually is it true? (This is why I less insert outbound links), but Garry I understand what you are asking for, I should credit you for your effort (I know I should do it). That’s really great to learn from your blog, I’m really learned a lot from your blog, I’ll definitely give my articles a link love whenever I refer your blog, okay? =) Hope you can forgive me for this time Garry!

Btw, the food blog in my subdomain, actually all the articles in my food blog are in my main domain, but I change my blog niche so I transferred all my post to my subdomain. I changed it because I cant maintain the blog since I don’t have nice camera to take nice food photo.

I know Jarret is your loyal reader as well, because he always is the first commenter at your very latest post. I hope I’m the 2nd 1. =)

Yea Garry, I won’t be spoon feed student, I will try to do something else myself and ask for your opinion. Currently I’m thinking to create a blog that talks about my work about “Construction”.

Let me introduce a little bit about myself. My name is Lee, I live in Malaysia, I’m 21years old, work as a Quantity Surveyor, a part time student and part time blogger. My brother influenced me to involve in online world, after a year in online world, I learned about “blogging” from others. I started to read your blog few months ago if I’m not mistaken.

Garry, I’m very happy that you’re actually can be my teacher in blogosphere, I’m the only blogger among my friends around me. =.=”

I’m writing this comment in my hometown, another state in Malaysia because it’s my 1 week holiday, I’ll visit here again Garry! Thanks for your advice Garry!

Take Care!

Lee

WordTracker is per day and Google’s AdWords Keyword Tool is for the entire month. So while the numbers are still off 300×30=9000. You have to remember though that these are all just estimates so you have to take them with a grain of salt.

As far as local niches…..I would just stick with something more broad. AdSense can geo-target the ads and if you limit yourself to a city you are missing out on every other city in the US. But then again if the searches are there and the competition is low, you could always try going for it.

Hey Garry,

Just read your post about therapy software and thought I would come back here and give an update of where I’m at with the concrete curbing site. I’ve got the WP install done, with some tweeks still needed for adsense, of course. Sadly, I haven’t written the content yet. I am a freelance writer by trade, so this won’t be difficult, but sometimes finding the time to do it is. I’m planning on getting the content in this weekend and loading up some adsense.

I’ll drop by again in a few days once it’s complete to solicit a critique and see what you (and the other experts here – Jarret, David, etc.) think about it. Sorry to keep everyone waiting, but it will move forward very soon.

Cheers!

Hi Michael, I was just there a few minutes and it was great to see the blog up and running. Your domain name is already indexed in Google and even though you don’t even have a post up on the blog, you already have 6 pages indexed. LOL.

You do need to get some content up pretty quickly though. Sometimes its better to keep the blog offline until you have some content to post on it. But, you’ll be ok as long as you make a post fairly soon. If it was me, I’d at least bust out a post immediately. Congrats again.. ;)

Thanks

I would actually appreciate it if you don’t copy and paste my articles on to your blog, translated or not. You need to write your own content.

Of course, if you want to send your visitors to my blog to read my content on my blog, that is fine.

49 Brian { 12.12.08 at 4:14 am }

Garry,

I really appreciate what you do in educating people about earning money online, there are so many scam sites out there it is so refreshing to see someone who is genuine. I’m a college student majoring in computer science and psychology and have been following your blog for a few couple of months and really enjoy it. I just subscribed to your email list and purchased a couple of your articles as well.

I don’t have a blog yet or any type of website, I’m trying to do all of my research first before I jump in. I’d also like to write for ehow as well and from what I’ve read keyword research is important in that as well.

One question I had about adsense and more specifically the adwords tool is – in trying to come up with a combination of variables that has a high CPC but gets enough search volume to provide sufficient traffic to make money do you want to have something with high advertiser competition but low to lower search volume? For example in the concrete curbing example your search volume was only 6,600, so are you looking for high advertiser competition which means high CPC but relatively low to lower (say 5,000-30,000) in search volume so there is not too much competition in the SERP. I hope that makes sense to you, I’m just a little blurry on that concept.

50 Brian { 12.12.08 at 4:32 am }

Garry,

I have been following your blog for a couple of months now and wanted to say that your content is awesome and say how nice it is to see someone genuine considering how many scam sites there are about making money online and how many people are out there just to cheat someone else.

I’m a college student majoring in computer science and psychology and don’t have my own blog or website yet, I want to be well informed/studied before I jump in. I’d also like to write for ehow, and from what I’ve read keyword research is important in that too. I just got my own computer so I subscribed to your mailing list and also bought a couple of your articles.

I did have one question relating to adsense, more specifically to the adwords keyword tool. Is the goal in finding a combination of attributes that pays well and allows you to rank well in google and have a high CPC to have a phrase with high advertiser competition, (which means high CPC?) and a low-moderately low search volume (say 5000-30,000) to eliminate too much competition in the SERP. I hope that makes sense but I’m a little blurry on that part.

-Brian

Like others I’m amazed with how you come up with these ideas. Maybe I’m just not interested enough in what goes on around me.

Maybe I should try to make it a daily task to find one boring thing that is commonly used. That might give me a few ideas for niches. ;)

Garry, is this an Asian thing? I just don’t get it. I just can’t figure out how visitors from Malaysia, China, Indonesia who come to yours and other’s blogs think that there’s absolutely nothing wrong with just lifting the content and putting it onto their own site. I know that there is a preponderance of copyright theft of US/Canadian/European goods, services, software and information throughout the rest of the Third world…especially in Asia, but I’m just wondering if this is a cultural thing? Are those aforementioned countries so devoid of creativity and the concept of hard work that they shiver at the thought of coming up with their own content from their own thoughts? This is not a rhetorical question; I’d really like to know.
