It has been awhile since I wrote my last niche blog tip. Here is a niche topic that can really make you a lot of cash. It is the topic of quitting smoking. Believe me there is a lot of money that you can make online running a quit smoking blog.
Here is a screen shot of the keyword phrase “Quit Smoking” in the Google AdWords Keyword Tool Report:
Here is the key importance of the screen shot:
- Quit Smoking Medicine has a CPC of $13.81 with 880 average monthly searches
- New Quit Smoking Drug has a CPC of $12.47 with 590 average monthly searches
- Quit Smoking Drugs has a CPC of $11.96 with 1,600 average monthly searches
Here is another screen shot of a related search “Stop Smoking”:

Here is a summary of my findings:
Stop Smoking Pills, Stop Smoking Treatments, Stop Smoking Laser Treatments, Stop Smoking Tobacco
These are all very decent keywords to target.
Now, I will admit, the competition for this niche is a little high and the search count is a little low; however, the amount of money AdWords advertisers are bidding for these terms makes up for the lack of search count and the increased competition.
If you build to target this niche topic, you will need to also invest time into link building. Most niche topics I target are so longtail that they don’t require backlinks; however, with this topic, you will need backlinks.
One thing that interests me most about the quit smoking niche is the fact that not only will it monetize very well, but also this niche can cross over into something that can cater to a regular following of readers. What I mean by that is that most of my niche blogs don’t really place a focus on capturing regular readers. My job is done when I drive traffic and score clicks.
With the quit smoking niche, you can actually become a hero. This is much different than any of the previous topics I have talked about in the past. With this niche you can provide excellent material that actually can be used towards capturing long term interest. People that smoke are tightly bonded. Meaning they have a common ground with other smokers.
If you are a smoker, then you know what I mean. If you are a smoker and alone waiting for the bus and you happen to be next to another smoker, conversations come very easy because you both are smokers. With that said, there are a ton people online who smoke. And every smoker wants to quit smoking. That is the thing all smokers have in common and typically the discussion of quitting smoking is the ice breaker when two smokers meet and talk for the first time.
Anyway, there is a lot of money that can be made with the “Quit Smoking” niche. I think it would be a great project for one of my readers to take on. Drop me a comment and share your thoughts. Also, if you are a smoker, then wouldn’t it be nice to create a quit smoking blog that acts as a journal towards your progress with quitting smoking? Not only will you save money from not buying cigarettes, but you’ll also make money off the ads displayed on your blog. Oh, and don’t ask me if this is a niche topic that I should practice what I preach. lol

OK Garry – clubquitsmoking is all mine – now what? LOL – just kidding there. This is one I’ve had on my radar for several weeks – finally jumped on it. I think this is truly one of those evergreen niches. Thanks!

I looked into this niche awhile back and from what I remember, it was rather hard to rank in the top 10 of google for any of those phrases. A decent sized backlinking campaign will definitely be needed if you want any chance to jump in on that niche.

The funny thing is that less than a week ago I was researching this very niche. I still haven’t decided whether to pursue it or not though.

It has a little more competition than I would like, but its so very profitable. Very much worth any extra work.

Hi Garry, this topic is indeed a very popular one, for which I have spent a lot of time researching. From the result of an experience I once had I am convinced that I have discovered a valuable tool which freed me from nicotine completely and I am certain a lot of smokers would apprechiate getting to know about it. I have written a script for a publication, but I then discovered another clue which verify’s my unusual theory. I have yet to include this in my script but, how can I get this off the ground? I’m not so sure how I’ve explained it is the best way. Can you help? Best regards

Wow, thanks for this. I’m not going to be starting a stop smoking blog but I’ll be sure to keep this information and these methods in mind for researching niches in the future…I know you have your Keyword Research Service linked to above, but what is your consulting fee if I would like some assistance with more than just keyword research but more of an mentoring/tutoring adventure?

For sure, my advice is very transferable to the topics of your choice.

I’m sure Garry would agree with me in recommending that you purchase an appropriate domain name and then get some hosting somewhere (he would recommend HostGator) and setup WordPress on it.
Now, this isn’t all as daunting as it might sound if you’ve never done it before. If you have any questions or need some assistance there are many people (myself included) who would be more than willing to help and most, like me, have a contact page on our sites that easily enables you to get in touch.
Hope this helps
Oh, and congrats on quitting!!

I think I just may do that…. buy the domain … now I am going to spend my whole day deciding on what to call it… thanks alot Nick haha… My employer will thank you as well.
I will keep you posted.

I thought this would be a good niche a while back so set a site but didn’t do the keyword research so had no idea it would be this good!
But, have to say I’m not finding a lot of advertisers. I found one on CJ but and a few independents but was nothing on the other affiliate networks. Yes, a few on Clickbank but nothing really exciting or they looked good but didn’t have affiliate materials. So, any suggestions where to find more advertisers (aside from Adsense).

Just found your blog through Google, and I have to say I thoroughly enjoy it. I’ve subscribed and I can’t wait for your next post! But do you suggest buying a new domain for every new niche you get into, or do you think it is better to focus all of your attention on one general site?

There is no doubt every useful niche will make an ideal money trip, but what bugs me is the strategy you have to pt in place to be above your competitors, there is alot of war in niche marketing and SEO, especially if you are in a position to cut through, all the same all the best
