Memory Foam Mattress Sales

My doctor told me to purchase a new bed, so now I have been searching the Internet for Memory Foam Mattress Sales. Lately, my lower back has been causing me a lot of pain. Honestly, this is no joke! My lower back and neck always hurt. Recently I asked my doctor why and he immediately asked me about the material, age and condition of my bed. I explained to him that my bed was just an average and basic king size bed and about ten years old. Immediately he concluded that my bed was one of the leading causes of my lower back and neck pain. From there, he suggested that I consider replacing my existing bed and purchase a new one with a memory foam mattress.

I have seen commercials on TV about memory foam mattresses and I constantly see coupons and various discounts and sales promotions in the newspaper for them, but I never really paid too much attention to them. Quite honestly, up until recently, I had no idea what memory foam is! Apparently, memory foam is made from polyurethane mixed with a few other materials to form something called, visco-elastic polyurethane foam. It was originally developed by NASA in 1966 to be used in aircraft cushions which helped increase safety for astronauts.

Memory foam is reacts to temperature. It gets softer when heated and gets harder when cooled. This makes for perfect material to work with in a mattress. The human body has an average temperature around 99 degrees. The average room temperature is around 75 degrees. A memory foam mattress basically creates a casting or shell around your body when laying down because body heat causes the surrounding memory foam to become soft. Deeper layers of the memory foam which haven’t increased in temperature due to your body heat remain firm.

This all sounds like a blast right? Well, unfortunately, memory foam mattresses are quite expensive. You might ask yourself, “Isn’t it worth the money to purchase a memory foam mattress if it helps reduce lower back and neck pain?” Well, the answer to that question is, Yes! It is worth investing the money; however, if it isn’t necessary to spend a lot of money on a memory foam mattress, then why do that?

My solution was pretty simple. While if you do look around, indeed you will find some amazing memory foam mattress sales, but what I did was a little different. The cheapest memory foam king mattress I could find on sale was at OverStock.com. I saw that they had an array of different prices and qualities. The price ranged from $189 to $699. The thing you have to be careful of is the fact that many of these memory foam mattresses on sale are quite misleading.

For example, a 4 Inch memory foam mattress may actually only include 1.5 inches of memory foam and then 2.5 inches of regular filler foam. Other mattresses where the entire mattress is made from memory foam can be quite expensive. The lesser quality mattresses that contain filler foam are obviously much cheaper. Realizing this, I decided to visit my local Walmart and check out the prices on their memory foam mattress toppers. I found a pure 2 inch king size memory foam mattress topper for $70 dollars. I then saw the standard foam mattress topper (I call filler foam) for $35 dollars.

Basically what I did was build my own memory foam mattress off my existing standard king size mattress. I purchased the standard foam for $35 and then two 2 inch memory foam mattress toppers for $140. After tax I spent just under $200 and I now have the equivalent of a 6 Inch king size memory foam mattress that normally sells for $699 or higher.

If you don’t want to go through all this customization with building your own memory foam mattress, ultimately I would suggest looking for memory foam mattress sales at OverStock.com. I had checked many other sites and OverStock.com seemed to be offering the best prices on more trusted brand names such as Serta and Beautyrest. Also they seem to stock all sizes (Twin, Full, Queen, King, California King, and Twin XL).

Maybe now that I have my new mattress my back and neck will hurt much less and I can do what I do best, which is teaching you guys how to make money online. I do know for a fact that a good night sleep is very important for not only your body, but also your mind. The last few nights have been amazing. I have slept all through the night and I wake up each morning feeling great.

What kind of mattress do you have? Have you considered purchasing a memory foam mattress? Are these mattresses too good to be true? Was my doctor wrong to suggest this mattress, or do you agree with his recommendation?

You might want to also give some thought to your work chair. If you’re spending hours sitting in it, particularly if you’re there in front of your PC, moving little else than your fingers, that could be contributing to your back and neck pain.

That is very true Susan. I do have a pretty decent computer chair that I purchased at Wal-mart. It was $99 which isn’t all that expensive, but not too cheap either. Amazingly, I am not on the computer as much as I used to be. I am online online maybe about two hours per day. I am proud to say that I have a ten hour work week. Having most everything pipe into my mobile phone helps a lot. :D

The thing that really confuses me with memory foam is that, well, it’s memory foam. Don’t most people unconsciously toss and turn all night long to protect the body from bed soars? If this is true, wouldn’t memory foam have trouble “memorizing” the shape of the human body? It might only be me, but doesn’t this mean that memory foam would flatten out quickly? If it does, i’m not sure it would be the best investment.

I mean, a regular bed in my opinion works just fine. Hey, I’ve been sleeping on a mattress about 4 inches thick since last July and I’ve had minimal problems other than an occasional stiff neck. I really don’t think that it’s worth paying so much for a mattress that might not even work as it’s advertised.

You haven’t checked one of these out… the memory form does’t lose shape at all. You push down on it, let go and it rises back. It’s pretty cool Brad, really you should totally check it out. I used to think the same as you, but ever since I started sleeping on it, all I can say is WOW! Also I don’t think I sleep long enough to get bed soars.

I think Susan is on the right track. People like us who spent a lot of time in front of a computer on our butts are prone to lower back pain.

Recently I got a massage and I noticed how tight my lower back felt. The masseuse told me:
” You spend a lot of time in front of the computer, don’t you?”

She hit the nail on the head.

I recommend a nice little massage, and frequent breaks.

How about over long periods of time though…. Like six months to a year? Will it still bounce back into shape?

It’s a bit pricey, but I bought a Tempurpedic and love it. I have a ton of back problems and it’s helped tremendously- and also comes with a 20 year warranty. Massages are great, too (good suggestion Joe)!
