Just took this computer on a trip to Europe and it was great. Small and light enough to carry around, but with a nice size keyboard so that typing was easy. The screen is of excellent quality. The battery life is terrific.

These EEEPCs are horribly small, but the 10inch ones should really be good for portable blogging :)

I have looked at the Dell as well. 16GB solid state drive is heaps big enough for the style of notebook it is. One plus is that it has no fan at all, none is needed so it is completely quiet (good for in bed I guess)
The Dells keyboard is a little strange, the keys are layout weird near the O,P,L keys - still the price is good.

Have a look at the Eee PC (by asus I think) they have the usual 8.9 models but also a 10inch one as well. Dell has a 12 inch version now too!

I have tried the first Eee PC with a 7inch screen, running Linux - it worked well but was just too small - screen and mouse pad.

The 1GB ram is Microsofts limitation on licensing terms. I guess they don't want XP to look too good compared to Vista. People have put Vista on these Netbooks but they run dog slow so don't try it Gary.
cheers, GoldCoaster

Nothing wrong with a solid state drive at all. I have never had a computer with one but I hear that they are lightening fast. Thanks for the info John, I am going to look more closely at the Dell for sure. Did you get a good deal one yours?

Yeah the location of the buttons was something I remembered that bugged me about it. The Dell Mini 9 has the buttons on the bottom like normal (albeit smaller). The Mini 9 has a small harddrive, only 16GB, but its solid state so no moving parts. And I don't need much storage for how I will be using this, which I think is similar to you. I've only played with it a few hours but so far I really like it.
