My Take on Third Party Advertisement

with 7 comments

I don’t want to write a huge novel about this… so I am going to try my best to keep this short and sweet. I have a huge problem with blabbing and over extending my articles to communicate simple points. In this article I want to touch on my thoughts about third party advertisements and making money online with your blog.

I am starting to question why I use programs such as Google Adsense, Text-Link-Ads and ReviewMe.com. I am starting to feel like I am throwing money away. Even more so when I get an email notification letter telling me that a new Text-Link-Ad has been sold, or I have a Review Pending My Approval.  If Text-Link-Ads can sell an ad on my site for $50.00 and keep half the profit, then why can’t I sell the ad myself for $40.00 and save the advertiser $10.00 and make $15.00 more than I would with Text-Link-Ads? Even more, why would an advertiser pay $100 dollars for a Review on a blog when the post will just get buried with new content by the end of the day? If an advertiser is willing to pay $100 dollars for this wouldn’t he rather pay $75.00 direct to me, saving him $25 and making me $25 more than I would through ReviewMe.com?

Money Is Being Thrown Away!

Plain and simple. Money is being thrown away and it is money that could be in your pocket and money that could be left in the struggling advertisers pocket. I don’t really shun third party advertisers, but I really feel that people are being blinded by their influence. I really feel that if people took it upon themselves to create/market/maintain their own independent advertisement campaigns on their sites, they would find that it would be more profitable in the long run. Unfortunately, people don’t want to do that because they have spent so much time getting to the point where their sites make $50 to $100 dollars per month, they don’t want to risk losing it.

Folks, you will never succeed unless you try, and sometimes in life you just have to gamble… and what’s a better place to gamble other than your blog? If you mess up, you don’t lose your house, wife, and kids? You just try something else.

Again… I said I would keep this short and sweet…

My Summary

  • Pull Away from the powers and influences of Google Adsense, Text-Link-Ads, ReviewMe.com and all the others…
  • Recognize the fact that there is so much money being wasted. The advertiser’s money and extra money that could be in your pocket.
  • Pinch yourself and realize that if your blog is making only $100/month you are still better off working at McDonalds. Don’t settle for this… if you want to make money online. Do it… be creative. Be independent. Start your own marketing.
  • When is the last time you picked up the phone and tried to make a sale? NEVER!!! This is 2007! Back in the day, people would have to pay big bucks for Long Distance Charges to make sales calls… Today Long Distance is free in many cases! Get on the phone and call people! Sell yourself, Sell your business, and Sell your website.
  • Stop using Google Adsense unless your run a site that targets people who don’t have a clue about Google Adsense.
  • Stop paying people 50% of your advertisement income because you are too lazy to sell yourself.
  • If you insist on being lazy, then hire your girlfriend, wife, best friend, or someone on the Internet to sell ads for you and give them a 10% cut on the deal.
  • Third Party Advertisers make you feel like you can’t do it on your own! Why… because they want to make money off you.
  • Third Party Advertisers are getting dirty rotten rich and you as well as the advertiser are paying for it.

If you are making less than $50 to $100 dollars per month using Google Adsense, use this real estate for your own marketing. Promote your own independent advertisement campaign, or if you want to help build up sections of your site (which increases the value of your site) create banners and text link ads that point to them. Promote your categories, promote your individual posts. In the long run this will pay off more than Google Adsense every will.

If you are making money successfully by way of Text-Link-Ads, ReviewMe.com and all the others…. this means someone else is successful selling ads on your site. That is GOOD! That means there are actually customers out there that are willing to pay money to advertise on your site. Now go out there and find them! Save them some money, offer a better and more effective campaign, and make more money doing it!

Want an example?

BryansRants.com

Bryan launched a small $1.00 month banner advertisement campaign. I was one of his first advertisers. And today it seems like he has a handful of them now. The sky is the limit for Bryan, and a year from now, he could be making $1000 or more per month from his site. To me… that is success. Taking $1 dollar and a year later building it up to $12,000 dollars. And why even put a limit on that. Bryan is building a business and I am very happy to see it grow! I want to see more sites like Bryan’s break away from the brainwashing powers of third party advertisers.

Be different, be unique, be original, be yourself. Don’t settle for average, Don’t be happy with $100 when you can make $1000, Don’t be tricked into thinking that you absolutely need and depend on third party advertisers to make money online. They make far more money than you do… and there is a reason for it. Change it.

Best Regards,
Garry Conn

  4. [...] My Take on Third Party Advertisement Good post by Garry. I personally think that third party advertisers offer several advantages over going it on your own, like a bigger audience of potential advertisers, payment processing, etc. That said, I know that many people including my friend Austin, say that once you get enough traffic you should try to find a direct adveriser to sponsor your site.
