MyBlogLog Got Hacked
I am not sure what happened but on Saturday Morning, May 12th, 2007 @ 4:42 CST from what it seems, MyBlogLog.com has gotten hacked into. The site is not running properly as everyone’s avatar is the same including the community picture screen shots as well. The image seems to be of a busy interstate taken at night catching the blur of headlights from hundreds of cars.
Last week I noticed this message on the screen:
Maybe it’s time that MyBlogLog goes ahead and locks in with two people to fill these positions. Because, “Houston, MyBlogLog Has A Problem…”.
I honestly don’t know what is going on. It really seems like MyBlogLog.com got hacked into! Just in case by the time you read this post and their site is back up, I have taken many screenshots for all to see. Check them out below, click on them to view full size.

Hi Garry,
Couldn’t it be that they were working on it themselves?
Garry not sure if you know but a few weeks back this happened as well. I just went back in and re-submitted my picture. Have ya tried that? I mean at least in the meantime some of us won’t be traffic lights.
It fine for me. Must be all fixed now.

LOL
Probably… I just wanted to stir the pot a little bit! I considered that, but wow… they have a poor way of doing site maintenance. EBay makes an announcement days in advanced. And when their maintenance is under way, there is an official statement on the pages that are affected. Sames goes with YouTube.com! If MyBlogLog was performing maintenance, then they should inform us about it. Otherwise they will have traffic hungry guys like me giving them bad press.
The image that they used (again assuming that it was just maintenance) was a terrible image to use. Also a larger problem was the fact that their network was in this state for at least an hour. I had to catch a few hours of sleep and left the site still in it’s “hacked state”. And nothing was written on their official blog about it. So, it is probably nothing major, but it is also probably something no one will ever know what really happened.
No. But come to think of it, something like this has happened before. And I remember seeing a few of the accounts start to reappear. So, I would imagine that would be the users re-uploading their images. It’s weird… this isn’t the first time I have seen something like this happen before.
Oh I am sure… can you imagine how terrible it would be if MBL was still down? Wow… Yes, all back up and running… earlier this morning I was busting a sweat to get the screen shots, because I knew that they would fix it (somewhat) fast… I waited for about an hour after the post was done… and it was still messed up. So, I don’t know what time the site got fixed.
Sorry Garry… I am a closet hacker.
LOL
Shame, shame… So you are responsible! Next time use a better image to flood MBL with! Maybe that famous Google girl…
even blogger (blogger.com) allows their bloggers to know ahead of time. By the looks of it all it would take is a small thing at the top of our MBL accounts. That’s what they did to let us know they had job offers.
Okay back to reading blogs.
If you decide to fool around a little bit with the free Wordpress.com service, let me know what the URL is so I can take a look.
I sent you a comment earlier, did it get eaten? Maybe a hacker?
Here’s that comment I sent you earlier. I think Akismet has a vendetta against me.
Last weekend we saw a bizarre scenario that plagued a handful of our users. Three of them sent an email to customer service asking why all their avatars had morphed into an evening freeway scene. It was then that one of our engineers realized this was due to some testing we were doing. In an effort speed up the time it takes avatar images to load, we were testing a caching engine.
The result was that a few profiles and community pages ended up with this freeway scene on *every* avatar on their page. If you were affected, we are sorry that this happened. But I wanted to just quickly let everyone know that MyBlogLog did not get hacked, well except internally…
Ha Ha! Karma works in mysterious ways. Sure enough, now I am battling site issues myself! Sorry about the dropped comment. I think you were here at the same time I was experiencing problems.
No. Akismet isn’t stalking you! My site was experiencing some, *ahem, “Issues Too!”
LOL… Thanks for letting us know what the deal was on MBL. Did you guys make a post about it on your blog? I try to keep up with your blog but didn’t see an entry. If there is one, let me know and I will provide a direct link to that.
