MyBlogLog vs BlogCatalog – Which is Better?
I have used both MyBlogLog as well as BlogCatalog on my own blog. Over time BlogCatalog has grown on me more than MyBlogLog. Both services seem to be almost identical, both services seem to be equal in popularity. Neither service seem to deliver much traffic; however, BlogCatalog delivers more.
With that said, which service do you prefer to display on your blog and why? For me, BlogCatalog seems to offer more features and the community isn’t as dry compared to MyBlogLog. Another reason why I prefer BlogCatalog over MyBlogLog is because it seems like there are more things that I can do on the BlogCatalog.com web site compared to at MyBlogLog.com.
Also, another thing I’ll mention is that even a year after Yahoo purchased MyBlogLog.com, the whole process of registering and migrating your Yahoo account with your MyBlogLog account is clunky. It the process isn’t fluid-like and often people run into trouble.
So what are your thoughts? Which service do you think is better? Which widget do you display on your blog and why?

I cancelled my MyBlogLog account soon after Yahoo bought them out. They forced me to use my old Yahoo account name instead of the screen name that I’d set up with MBL, and I rarely if ever got traffic from them.
BlogCatalog on the other hand I get steady traffic from. Not much, mind, but it is fairly steady. Several other bloggers that I know have said the same about getting traffic from BC and not from MBL, otherwise I’d say that it could be a coincidence.
Yes, one thing I noticed with BC is that you’ll get some traffic if you are active on the site, such as in their discussion boards.
I do love more BlogCatalog. I didn’t enjoy myBloglog and I hate their widget as it makes my blog load slow. I love how blogcatalog works. Their directory, discussion community, and they even show how many minutes ago did a certain visitor visit your blog.
yes, I get some traffic from blogcatalog
I use mybloglog’s widget, and I’m doing it since I started blogging but what you say is true. At BC you can rate other people’s blogs and you can discuss on forums, something that MBL doesn’t has.
I remember that I used BC’s widget once but I removed it because 1 year ago, there was more people using MLB than BC, so I was getting many black faces in my widget, something I didn’t like….
But now BC seems to be more popular, I think I will switch to BC too
.
I used to have both of their widgets on their site, but ditched them both. I still like to visit BlogCatalog once in a while. Their forums and groups are pretty active, so that is definitely a plus.
You know, I don’t think of myself as an idiot on blogging and Wordpress. People pay me to set up their blogs. But the truth of it is, every time I went to install one of the MyBlogLog Widgets on a blog, I got completely confused. I honestly never figured it out. Maybe I could have but always had more pressing things to do so I left it.
If you look at my blog it has plenty of social networking widgets, even too many maybe but I don’t have time to worry about it now. I have Blog Catalog, MyBlogLog (the one that I did manage to intall, ha), and Friend Feed.
I could never “choose” so at least in this case I just left them all on there, until the happy day arrives when I have time to overhaul that particular blog.
But the fact of the matter, even if I could figure it out, the Yahoo API thing really is a bit of a put-off. When it becomes a choice of easy and fast (Blog Catalog) vrs “what am I missing here,” I prefer the former!
Another thing is that when I did get contacted by people at BC, it seemed more “real” and from MBL I got more of the other type. Could just be me, I dunno!
I’ve been using MyBlogLog since I started my site simply because at the tie I started, it seemed like everyone was using it. I’ve never even set up an account with Blog Catalog so can’t really say anything about their service, although I like the idea mentioned in the video about seeing how long ago someone was on your site.
I prefer MyBlogLog though their recent visitors widgets are very slow loading compared to that of the Blog Catalog. The only reason to continue with MyBlogLog is that I have a 100 strong community there (I should admit that I am not really active there
though)
I use both and i personally prefer BlogCatalog than MyBlogLog. BlogCatalog has so many friendly user and you can have a chat directly from shoutbox which i really like it so much. Also their discussion board are so helpful and i got a lot of useful info from there. Best place EVER!
I use BlogCatalog on my site. I have to admit that I had both on my site, but deleted the Bloglog widget realizing it look pretty lame to have it empty. I don’t know how long it would take to get “friends/visitors” to show up in there. I was not really active in it so that could have something to do with it.
I like the discussions and networking in Blogcatalog.
I use both but I will admit BlogCatalog seems to update a lot faster. I have had two blogs on MyBlogLog for months and still no thumbnail widget. You would think with the backing and money of Yahoo MyBlogLog would be run a little better. Other than that I see no real difference.
This post got me thinking. I may delete one. They do seem kind of redundant. Almost the same faces are on both widgets so why waste the speed and space? I’ll give it some thought. If I have to choose BlogCatalog will have to stay.
blogcatalog.com is great Social Networking sites out there!
I,m doing my business social networking work with blogcatalog and uoha.com i hope i can get some good business contact out of this!
More drive of traffic, more active, more flexible functions and more nice graphical design. I am more comfortable wit BC. But still I keep them both.
