Pay Per Click VS Organic Ranking
I don’t like using Pay Per Click services such as Google AdWords because once you spend all of the money in your account, all your listings go away instantly. For me, I like to have something to show for my money spent and when listings disappear after my account has been emptied, there really isn’t anything to show for it.
The old saying, “Time is Money” is very true. With that said, it does take time to rank organically in Google. However, the time invested towards earning a natural ranking in Google is well worth it because your ranking will last a long time and you never have to pay for it.
So what are your thoughts? Are you open towards paying for listings in the search engines? Or, would you rather take a little more time towards trying to rank organically? Paying money to rank in Google is instant. Ranking organically in Google is not; however, once you do rank organically in Google, your listing is sure to stay for awhile and you never have to pay money to keep it there. What are your thoughts?

you don’t realize that pay per click is widely used by affiliate marketers and big brands that can’t afford to waste time? Of course you don’t cause you are a tiny fish and can’t think at that level. But I guess, you do realize now after my comment.
It all depends on which stage you are in. Assuming you are trying out new keywords and phrases, I totally disagree with everything you say in this video.
Most important reason for disagreeing: How do you know you are targeting the right words or phrases? With PPC you get to test the market with a small budget, before you spend your time and money trying to rank for the keywords and phrases.
Assuming you are in a stage where you KNOW that the keywords are profitable, then I’d say I partially agree. Because, why wouldn’t you want to rank for both free and paid traffic if the keyword or phrase is profitable anyway?
Wouldn’t you agree?
Hi Dave,
Within your attempt to insult me, I was able to salvage your comment and find something useful with it.
You had said that affiliate marketers can’t afford to waste time. And I can understand that. But what about the long haul?
I understand how widely used PPC is used among successful affiliate marketers and yes I am well aware of the fast paced processes they go through towards gaining floods and floods of traffic to landing pages, etc… However, if the same thing can be done organically and for free, then perhaps there could be a benefit from both?
If you feel like contributing something a little more intelligent than your last comment, I look forward to your response.
Hi Umit,
Thanks for the comment. You make some very valid points. I appreciate that. I can totally see how someone would be willing to spend a little bit of money towards “Testing The Waters” prior to investing time into trying to rank organically. Excellent comment.
A lot more could go into this discussion depending on the site. If it were my corporate blog then I concur to get what I can organically. Coming from a SEO Consultant background and into owning a CPA network I’m now more of the type that scrapes together a quick site with landers looking for profitable keywords off the bat and then developing content around keywords that I have data on that says these keywords trigger sales.
Either/Or for anyone comfortable with each but I personally dont limit to one or the other.
BTW – Long lurker, nice to see videos Garry.
Hi Ruck,
Thanks for stopping by and adding a comment. I always enjoy the “long lurkers” coming out from the shadows and talking with me.
Owner of a CPA Network… wow, pretty impressive man. I was looking at your site and wondering how many advertisers you have within the network?
Hey Garry,
Currently we have 135 live offers coming from around 14 direct advertisers and agencies and of course some run of the mill offers that other network owners/managers have exclusive and do media buys for to garner some of our publishers traffic. Should have another half dozen before Valentines Day (hoping anyway right!)
Best,
Ruck
First, I’m glad you also had some text. I’m really more the reading type than listening unless it is a how to, then I enjoy both.
For Umit, I would think the free tools that Google offers can give you a pretty good idea of whether or not a particular keyword is profitable, but I would be curious about some examples.
For me, I can view keyword suggestions on CD Rates and then load that into the traffic estimating tool. If the tool is telling me that advertisers spend $3 to 14 per click, I can probably guess that they keyword(s) are profitable.
I’ve tried PPC before and just had a bad experience. Seems to me the time I would have to invest in getting good at it, I could spend ranking organically and come out ahead.
I know people make $ at it, but would they make more if they pursued organic listings.
And Garry, I’m proud of you. You showed restraint to Dave and gave a good reply.
There is probably a happy medium, but I prefer working on organic.
Although I’ve never used it myself Garry, I know from “my people” (direct sales) that PPC is KEY for the short term boost like you mentioned…
You have a physical product e-commerce site – it’s now December and you’re lookin’ for those last minute shoppers – PPC baby! LOL
Having limited experience with both, I must say I defintely prefer the organic ranings over the paid ones for the reason you mention. Also, the organic rankings are a nice alternative for someone such as myself who is on a very limited (non-existant) budget. However, due to some of the previous comments, I can certainly see some benefits of using the paid listings for testing new keywords.
I’ve always gone for organic rankings. Sure, I’ve dabbled in PPC here and there but for the most part it’s all about search engine rankings for me. The benefits are long lasting and the money can be great if you rank highly for competitive keywords.

I made the mistake when I first started trying to make money online of PPC. That didn’t turn out to well. Now I am working on trying to increase my organic rankings which is very slow and a lot of work. Hopefully I’ll find success,
Where do the numbers come from?
One thing I am curious about. I obviously don’t have the whole understanding. Define organic vs PPC. I use Goole sometimes to check how many searches are done on certain words or phrases. I have noticed it might show 10,000,000 found in 21 seconds. Is that the number of people doing a search for that word or the nubmer of times it is mentioned somewhere on the web?
Lastly what if that nubmer is high but Google Keywords tool only shows 200 searches per month? with a cost of .33 cents per?
Where do the nubers come from?
