Hot News: Kyle’s Cove Is No Longer!

As we all continue to learn more about blogging and the professional connections and opportunities that can arise with blogging, many individuals such as my good friend Kyle Eslick are beginning to realize the importance of having a brandable name.
Kyle Eslick is widely known as the author of Kyle’s Cove. He is a very talented, skilled and extremely particular blogger. Just like me, he has grown a lot as a blogger in 2007. Kyle quickly recognizes that sometimes a personal blog can only go so far in life and with careful consideration he has decided to migrate all his work and personal establishments into a brand new and totally brandable domain name called, SlickMania dot Com.
I spoke with Kyle earlier this afternoon…
Garry,
I’m excited to announce a big change over at Kyle’s Cove. We have now reformed under a new name, SlickMania! This is a change that has been a long time coming and I feel it is for the best. Under our new name, SlickMania will be more search engine friendly, easier to remember, and more brandable! I know this change is sudden, but I’d love to hear what you think!
Sincerely,
Kyle Eslick
That is pretty cool and I must recognize Kyle for his amazing work and continued growth of his brand. Officially, I will be the first to call Kyle, by his new name I hope to coin, Slick Eslick.
So, what can you expect to find on Slick Eslick’s new site called, SlickMania? The same thing that you were able to find on Kyle’s Cove. Only thing difference is that this is a new beginning for Kyle and by sporting a new brandable domain name, reaching beyond the sky will be now within his range.
Take a moment to drop Kyle a comment here and tell him that GCDC and his readers support his move… be sure to update your RSS subscription feeds, blogroll entries and any pages with the new URL of SlickMania.com.
Kyle’s last post can be read here.
In Other News…

I launched a new section on Garry Conn dot Com today titled, Ask Garry! This is a place where bloggers can freely send in email questions for help. If you need help with blogging, making money online, search engine marketing, search engine optimization or even WordPress tips, you can email your questions to GarryConn@Gmail.com. Your questions will be answered and published live on Ask Garry! Some questions might even make my main blog at Garry Conn dot Com!
So What Are Your Thoughts?
If you have a personal domain name being used as a blog, do you see limitations with continuing to use it? John Chow has mentioned many times that he regrets using his John Chow dot Com domain name as he never anticipated it to gain as much popularity as it has. Regretfully, he will never be able to use his domain name for personal use again. I totally support Kyle’s decision to make the switch. But what do you think? Many of us have used our personal names as our dot Com homes, should more bloggers follow Kyle’s lead? I would love to hear your thoughts.

Hi Garry,
Thanks for the support! There is a lot involved with making a switch such as 301 redirects, database moves, and of course the matter of switching your feed.
With that said, I’m very excited about the change and know that in time it will be the right move for me and for the website.
Thanks again for posting about it here on GCDC!
You are welcome!
I know that you busted your ass to get all this done. Congrats! I hope all my readers will drop you a line here and also update their blogrolls, links and rss subscriptions.
When I switched my blog it was like starting all over. It’s not easy but it’s been worth it so far. I don’t see any reason to switch away from a personal name domain unless it’s just a matter of preference. Especially if your name is your brand. I think it would be hard to switch both the name and the brand, but maybe it’s easier if you switch the brand first until people get used to it and then switch the domain name.
Just my 2cents.
In my case, it was mostly preference, but it is far from starting over a blog!
If you use redirects and transfer your feed and such, the search engines will be directed to the equivalent post on the new site and feed readers will still get your content from the same feed URL.
In other words, if you visit a page on my old domain name it will forward you to the equivalent post on the new domain name, etc. Search engines will start to index the new site and remove the old site from their indexes because of the redirects. I still have all my old posts and the readers can still use the same feed to see posts. In my case, I choose to get a new feed but people will be prompted on the old feed to sign up for the new feed here in a few days. You also have the choice of just using your old Feedburner URL if you so choose.
It is not something I recommend anyone do spontaneously, but if you’ve researched how to do it properly and take the time to be sure you want to move, it can be well worth it.
I’d just started reading Kyle’s Cove in recent weeks, so in that regard it’s a little strange to see it change so soon, but the new brand will be a great success I’m sure!
I look forward to seeing your final logo and tweaks etc Kyle!
I’m sure it took loads of work, I have eye on a certain domain, but doubt I’d transfer it over as I’m sure there’s so much work involved!
Gutsy… thats all I got to say. Kyle you must have nerves of steel.
I would have chewed all my finger nails from being worried that I made sure I dotted all my I’s and crossed all my T’s. Nice work man, you pulled it off and I think this is going to be great for you.
I think I’ll keep GCDC running the way it is.
