Gutsy... thats all I got to say. Kyle you must have nerves of steel. :)

I would have chewed all my finger nails from being worried that I made sure I dotted all my I's and crossed all my T's. Nice work man, you pulled it off and I think this is going to be great for you.

I think I'll keep GCDC running the way it is. :)

I'd just started reading Kyle's Cove in recent weeks, so in that regard it's a little strange to see it change so soon, but the new brand will be a great success I'm sure!

I look forward to seeing your final logo and tweaks etc Kyle!

I'm sure it took loads of work, I have eye on a certain domain, but doubt I'd transfer it over as I'm sure there's so much work involved!

In my case, it was mostly preference, but it is far from starting over a blog!

If you use redirects and transfer your feed and such, the search engines will be directed to the equivalent post on the new site and feed readers will still get your content from the same feed URL.

In other words, if you visit a page on my old domain name it will forward you to the equivalent post on the new domain name, etc. Search engines will start to index the new site and remove the old site from their indexes because of the redirects. I still have all my old posts and the readers can still use the same feed to see posts. In my case, I choose to get a new feed but people will be prompted on the old feed to sign up for the new feed here in a few days. You also have the choice of just using your old Feedburner URL if you so choose.

It is not something I recommend anyone do spontaneously, but if you've researched how to do it properly and take the time to be sure you want to move, it can be well worth it.

When I switched my blog it was like starting all over. It's not easy but it's been worth it so far. I don't see any reason to switch away from a personal name domain unless it's just a matter of preference. Especially if your name is your brand. I think it would be hard to switch both the name and the brand, but maybe it's easier if you switch the brand first until people get used to it and then switch the domain name.
Just my 2cents.

Hi Garry,

Thanks for the support! There is a lot involved with making a switch such as 301 redirects, database moves, and of course the matter of switching your feed.

With that said, I'm very excited about the change and know that in time it will be the right move for me and for the website.

Thanks again for posting about it here on GCDC!
