Can you say, “Quick Fix to a BIG PROBLEM!” For a few weeks now, I have received quite a bit of feedback from readers explaining to me that their comments haven’t been posting on the site. Either their comment just hangs and gets lost into cyberspace or clearly their comment was sent direct to spam. I have made quite a bit of effort towards correcting these issues. Formally, I was using a program called Spam Karma 2 and it didn’t seem to perform exactly as I wanted it to. Granted, I probably didn’t have the program configured properly, but overall… spam comments were making their way to my articles and real comments were getting captured and sent to spam
A few days ago, I made a ton of changes to the site. One of those changes was getting rid of Spam Karma 2 and using a new program called Akismet coupled with another program called, Bad Behavior, as suggested by my good buddy Matthew at eJabs.com. I do see an improvement using these two programs compared to Spam Karma 2. However, it is still not perfect because I am still finding “Real” comments from very “Real” people in the spam folder for me to approve.
I have the Ultimate Solution To The Problem!
Oh man, this is going to amaze you! It will make your jaw drop! and you will do back flips!
Are you ready?
LOL. This is such old news, I forgot all about it! If you are running a self-hosted WordPress blog, you can allow your readers to register for an account! HELLO!!! Can you say, Duh!! I have no idea why I didn’t think of this before.
Register To Comment on Garry Conn dot Com
First off, you are NOT required to register to comment on my site. I have opened up registration for my readers who are experiencing difficulty with commenting. Garry Conn dot Com uses self-hosted WordPress. My site actually has the ability to allow people to register, create posts, moderate comments, edit posts, write posts, and more! WordPress is very versatile and highly functional. Having WordPress, I can actually accept guest bloggers to write on the site, I can accept having a co-moderator or someone to help administrate the site. WordPress is very powerful, yet very easy to use.
If you have been having trouble commenting on my site, take a moment to register for a subscriber’s account. From there if you have difficulty commenting, all you need to do is login to your account and then place your comment, thus bypassing my spam filters completely!
and from now on, login or logout using the “Login” section on the bottom of the sidebar.
Here is what to look for:

Drop me a comment and let me know if you register. That way I have a heads up and can make sure everything goes ok.

Hi Garry,
I have the same two plugins — Akismet and Bad Behavior — running on my two blogs. I used to have SK2, but like you, turned it off. Not because it was letting spam through, but because I had configured it to put every comment into moderation. And that meant even moderating my own comments!
Too much trouble. So I switched back to those other two and so far things are running well. I still make every comment held for moderation, but that’s just me being paranoid.
I am glad to hear that it is working better for you. I have a lot of improvement as well. But, it isn’t perfect and I still have real comments getting put into spam. So that is why I opened the door for anyone who wants to register for a subscriber’s account. That ultimately, should fix the problem.
Currently, i don’t have problem with commenting, but i may need to register soon:)
If you should experience any trouble with commenting, I have opened the doors to allow user registrations here on the site as a solution to the problem.
Registered, it only took me a minute to do so…
I seem to be able to comment fine now but if people are still having problems and need to register doesn’t that mean there are still underlying problem with the site that need fixing, rather than get visitors to do something to overcome it.
