Remember How I Said You Can Make Money Online With Pligg?
Last week I wrote a post about how you can make money online by starting your own social network using a program called Pligg. Well, I just got a trackback from a site called Blog Vibrations who is doing just that. I don’t think that they are open to the public yet, but they are operating behind the scenes building up their content base by manually adding entries into their system, just as they did with one of my posts.
One thing that caught my eye with Blog Vibrations is that they are running a contest for a chance to win $1500 dollars just for submitting your blog into their system. Sounds like a pretty good offer to me. One you get to submit your blog into their system which will give it more FREE exposure and two, you can have a chance to win money for doing so. Would that be classified as a Win/Win situation?

Blog Vibrations is powered using Pligg. This is a totally free open source program that anyone can download and install on their server. Installing Pligg isn’t too much more difficult than installing WordPress.
In fact, did you know that the famous Sphinn is powered using Pligg? Pretty cool, huh?

well, they have to bring new and active users, and $1500 seems enough to attract new blood. Adding content by themselves is a good strategie. IT wouldn’t look grat luanchin a site with 3-4 submissions…
If you don’t know already, reddit as gone open source, making this an alternative to pligg.

I’ll be sure to check that out. Off hand I don’t like Reddit’s format but, many people do, so it will be interesting to see how that system compared to Pligg in terms of installing, customizing and maintaining. Thanks again for the heads up on that, I would have never known.
Seems like they dropped the $1,500 offer. Or at least I couldn’t find it. I signed up anyway.
I can’t tell you exactly why, but I’ve the sensation that this social network belongs to you or to any of your friends (Joe, Mark, Forest,…) and that the contest was a fake to attract some subscribers.
If I’m wrong, it would be anyway a harmless trick to get started a new social network.

That comes off kind of offensive. In other words you would think I would fake something like that? Seems strange to read something like that written by you of all people.
No, It would be a very harmful trick. I wouldn’t do something like that and I sure hope that you wouldn’t either.

I got that sensation because on that social network I’ve not seen any hint of that contest. The only evidence I had was the screenshot of your post.
It seems I’m getting to evil, have to take some time off, fortunately the next 2 weeks I’ll be on holiday…

Hello everyone,
i am the Manager of Blog Vibrations. currently we are brand new, if you do a search our domain was only brought 3 weeks ago but we spent a good 2 months or so learning the Pligg Open Source system.
We originaly started adding posts to blogs i had on my rss and my bookmarks on my computer, including Mr Garry Conn himself which is how he found out about us.
We still have a looooong way to go, we are currently working with one of the official Pligg Developers who goes by the name of Dollars5 (dollars5.com) for some massive new unique features. You may know about pligg from such sites as Sphinn and Buzzdup.
The competition IS REAL, we are offering $1500 USD to one lucky visitor who signs up and submits atleast 1 blog post prize to be given away on the 1st August 2008. We took the competition off the site while we where doing some updates and we forgot to put it back on, it will be back on within 5 minutes from the time of this comment. i am very sorry some of you felt misleaded by our mistake.
