Saying Good Bye To ScratchBack.com

with 6 comments

This of course is nothing against Jim Kukral. I think his blog is awesome, in fact, I think its one of the better blogs out here. Time time has come though, I need to remove ScratchBack.com. It’s not Jim’s fault, nor is it mine or yours. Here is the problem I am having:

scratchback-earnings

It is simply not earning money. The main purpose of having the widget displayed on my blog is to offer a neat way for readers to say thank you for doing what I do while also getting a nice reward for making the small $5 dollar donation.

The problem I am having is that the low cost causes a conflict of interest with my sponsors and advertisers. It wouldn’t be much of a problem if the links on the widget flowed faster, but they don’t. I have links still showing on the widget that were purchased over a month ago.

For me, it’s kinda hard to sell a $99 / month banner ad when advertisers can see clear as day links that have been purchased for $5 dollars stay on the blog the same amount of time. The ScratchBack.com widget is for you. I put it there to give you an affordable way to advertise on my blog and by saying thanks.

No hard feelings… I don’t have any and neither should you. It is obviously something that doesn’t interest you, therefore it must go. Thanks for the $141.37 in tips. Just for reference, I have done close to 50 posts since I put the widget up. The amount earned equates to getting tipped $2.82 per post which gets viewed almost 10,000 times.

Perhaps I should become a waiter, seems to make more money than providing people with tips about how to make money online. ;)

On November 25th I included ScratchBack.com on my blog because I wanted to provide readers with an affordable way to advertise their links while also giving me a way to earn a few extra dollars. From November 25th through December 25th I received a total of 20 ScratchBack orders. I...

  • Are You On My Top Spot?

Middle of last year, Jim Kukral, a web marketing strategist and blogger who I really enjoy following created a really cool widget called ScratchBack. At that time, Google had just slammed their hammer down on quite a few icon bloggers for selling text links ads! It resulted in putting the...

  2. I did try your ScratchBack widget Garry and my link stayed for some time on this blog.. the reason that I didn’t renew is simply that it was not worth the $5.. ? got less that 20 clicks.. not to mention that there’s no “link love” because of the javascript that they ‘re using.. So, what’s the point?

  3. Scratchback was good when it first hit the scene but recently fewer and fewer people are using it.

  4. I tried to leave a comment before, but..
Anyway, I was saying that to my experience from this blog’s Scratchback widget, I got less than 20 clicks and no linklove, because of Scratchback’s javascript, therefore I didn’t renew it..

  5. I am not sure about this one. My links are pretty much all sold, but they don’t exactly move quickly.

It’s an interesting concept. Maybe we should come up with an even better product (no offense to Jim).

  6. Interesting take on it. I’m going to keep mine up just a little bit longer, mainly because I’ve had it up for less than two months. It does seem lonely for awhile, and yet, I guess ego is making me keep it there for awhile longer.
