I was chatting with a friend online tonight and we were looking back on some older posts on his blog and even mine too, basically reflecting on the number of mutual friends we have made in the past that have just seemed to disappeard from the blogosphere. These are all old faces that we both forgot about until we saw them in the comments.
I can kind of understand this… as time goes by a lot of people get into blogging, but then after short periods of time they can get bored with it. A true blogger is one that honestly can’t go a day without thinking about their blog. Bloggers are a rare breed which seems to be progressively growing. While there indeed are some 100 million blogs now, you have to consider the number of these blogs don’t reflect the amount of TRUE bloggers.
For me, I am probably one of the most obsessive bloggers you might come to know. I think about my blog all the time. I’ll go about my day and think many times, “Oh man… I need to write a blog about that!!!” There are times, when I say to myself, “Dude, that would be an amazing story to unveil” Heck I am so knee deep into blogging, I have even figured out how to do it using my mobile phone.
Anyway, to make a long story short, I am going to restructure myself a little bit. One thing that I can honeslty admit, is that I don’t invest much time (if any) towards reading other blogs. Yes, I subscibe to a bunch of them in Google Reader. Yes, I do read blog posts from time to time.. bu usually it is only because the post title caught my eye. In other words, I can honestly say that I don’t do my share as a blogger by way of contributing on other blogs. I need to… and it’s something that I want to fix.
So with that said, as you are reading this post, take a moment to drop me a comment and tell me about your blog. You obviously read my blog, so I’d like to take a moment to read yours.I have been spending a little bit of time over at Yahoo! and I really like their new My Yahoo! Personalized page. I have created a new Yahoo! screen name and at the moment, I have a BLANK personalized page.
What I would like to do, is fill that personalized page up with about 25 RSS feeds from blogs just like yours. So, if you want a blog reader, let me know about your blog in the comments. If it is something that I think will interest me, I’ll subscribe to it by adding it to my all new My Yahoo! Personalized page.
M
As you can see from the screen shot above, my personalized page is totally blank. Drop me a comment and tell me about your blog and also old friend, new friends, daily contents, etc… don’t automatically assume that I’ll add you… regular readers need to let me know about their blogs too. (hint… Mark Mason, Mark Sierra, Christine Senter, David Cooley)
The reason I am doing this, is because once a week, I am going to log into this page and read. I am going to take part of one of my days, probably Sunday and use it to simply enjoy reading other people’s blogs.
Rather than try to fix my Google Reader, I’d rather just start over from scratch. So, if you have a blog and you want me to read it, I’d advice that you leave me a comment below and tell me about it. Also too, this is a great way to share your blog with other people who read my comments.

Ok so everyone knows that I have been in the hospital with my wife the last two days. Now the hospital we are staying at doesn’t offer high speed Internet access. So taking my laptop with me won’t do me much good.
However, there were many times when I could have logged in and wrote a quick blog post or two. With that said, I have a mobile phone with very nice Internet access. Only problem there is that the WordPress admin isn’t quite what I would call mobile friendly.
Writing a blog post using a mobile phone just doesn’t work very well, right? I am sure you tried it too once or twice.
Anyway, here is a really neat solution. It is a WordPress plugin that makes your WP Admin Dashboard mobile friendly. Be sure to check it out.
Visit: http://wphoneplugin.org
In fact, just to let you know, I wrote this post from my mobile phone from the hospital. It has everything you need. You can assign a category and even tags to your post. Really the only thing that you can’t do is add a picture.
I want to offer just a few more people the opportunity to get a free WordPress blog installed and set up by me. I am helping quite a few people already and I can help a few more. So, if that person is you… then you better jump on this opportunity before someone else does.
Once again, here is what’s included:
Your Cost…. only one penny!
Read my previous post that explains more:
http://www.garryconn.com/extra-extra-read-all-about-it-garrys-building-blogs-for-a-penny.php
This is your last chance offer… hurry don’t pass this opportunity up.
Lately, with me talking about web hosting so much, I have been curious as to how to start your own personal web server using a spare desktop computer. If you consider everything that is needed, a web server is really a fairly simple machine. In fact, if you wanted to run your own WordPress blog off your own personal computer all that is needed is a high speed Internet connection, MySQL, PHP and Apache.
These three programs are totally free and can be downloaded and installed on your own personal computer. The problem I have is I just don’t quite have the knowledge to get everything configured correctly to do it. I have everything needed, but don’t quite see how to get it all set up. Maybe you can help me?
So, if you know how to do all this , contact me or drop me a comment. If you write a tutorial up, I wil edit this post and include it here and give you credit and links back to your blog.
In case you don’t know, I am building blogs for a penny! Come one, come all… who wants a blog built for only a penny?
Ok, so yesterday I sent out an email to my mailing list subscribers and I also fired off a blog post. I had a few takers, but not as many as I thought I would have had?
What Is Wrong With You People? Don’t You Want A Free Blog? ![]()
LOL… so anyway, I thought that I would write one more blog post and blast out ONE more email to my list and just to show you that I am not joking… I will build you a blog for a penny!
So here is the deal. I don’t want your money, but indeed I do want to get paid. You are not going to pay me, HostGator.com is going to pay me. If you want me to build you a blog all you need to do is sign up for HostGator.com. You will need to buy a domain name, or ideally, blow the freaking dust off the domain name that you ordered six months ago and use that! And yes, you can close this deal for only a penny! If you sign up for HostGator.com’s Baby Plan and use coupon code wordpress, your order will only be a penny!
* YOU HAVE TO BE A NEW HOSTGATOR.COM CUSTOMER. If you are already a HostGator.com customer, then you will need to sign up for BlueHost.com. However, they don’t have the Sweet One Penny Deal like HostGator.com does. If you are already a HostGator.com and a BlueHost.com customer, then I can offer this same deal to you for $125 dollars. Send me a payment using paypal.com to garryconn@gmail.com.
From there I will set up your HostGator.com account, install WordPress, together we can find a free WordPress theme, or we can use one of the themes that I have already made, you can tell me about your domain name and the idea behind it, I will research keywords and phrases and I will even write five articles for you.
Does this sound too good to be true? How can I do all this for just a penny? Well, the truth of the matter is that I am indeed getting paid. I am using my HostGator.com commission and earning my keep for it. When you sign up for HostGator.com, that will pay me a sales commission. So I am getting paid, but the money isn’t coming out of your pocket, it is coming out of HostGator.com’s pocket.
Sign up and then contact me. It’s that simple.
Many people often wonder how they can make their own WordPress theme so that it can help them make money online. What people are commonly seeking is a WordPress theme that has all the needed elements packed into it so that it allows for a very high conversion of clicks with AdSense and or a high conversion on affiliate based products being marketing on the blog.
Jarret Cade wrote me an email today asking some really good questions that I just had to share with everyone here on my blog. I asked Jarret if he wouldn’t mind me posting this and he said it would be cool. So here is a copy of the email that Jarret sent to me and below it is my response back to him.
Hey Garry,
I just recently purchased a domain name and I plan to setup a WP blog on it.
I want to use AdSense as the main source of income and well I figured you would be the best person that I know to ask
![]()
I am wondering about the ad unit placements. I am not quite sure exactly how I am going to layout the blog because I wanted to talk with you and get your expert opinion on what you find works the best. I am most likely going to be developing my own theme for the blog and I think I am going to go with something around 1000 pixels wide. If I do go that wide I may end up using a 3 column layout or maybe just 2, I don’t really know yet.
Is there a general layout or placement that seems to work best? Or is it one of those things where you have to build the site and then determine where the ads should be placed for maximum effect? I know that it requires testing to find out the absolute best position but I also know that you have been dealing with this long enough to at least give me a good head start.
Hi Jarret,
First let me tackle the simple question, width of your WordPress theme. Some people go fluid others go fixed width. I’ll not go into reasons in this email as to why some people favor one over the other, but rather just talk about the fixed width option. For me, all my blogs are designed with a 985px width. I am unsure if you are go any wider than that without causing your 1024×768 viewers to have to scroll right or left. For me, I always use 985px just to be safe, plus it still gives me plenty of room in the body as well as plenty of room in the sidebar.
Typically my sidebar is 300px in width. I do this so that I can put a 300×250 AdSense unit inside it or a banner from an affiliate program. Some times my sidebar is 250px in width; however very rarely do I make my sidebar less than 250px. In a 985px width WordPress theme, typically my body section of the template is 500px to 550px in width. The difference in numbers between the body and sidebar commonly equate to extra padding, margins and styling that I apply to my themes.
For my niche blogs — the blogs that make me money, unlike this one you are reading — I always use a two column design (body and one sidebar positioned on the right). My themes are very simple and that one of the keys to my success. I don’t use a lot of plugins — aksimet and Google Sitemaps are typically the only ones — and I don’t crap up my HTML and PHP code with a lot of useless junk. For me, it’s all about the SEM’ed content that generates the excellent Google Ads and funnels the traffic from the SERPs and it’s all about the SEO’ed Theme that aids in my content getting properly indexed and ranked.
Typically I use a 300×250 directly under the Post Title. Some times I wrap the code in div tags and float it to the left. Other times I float the ad unit to the right. Recently in an experimentation with David Cooley, a friend of mine, I have been experimenting with simply keeping the content below the AdSense unit all together. You’ll have to play around with it and see what works best for you.
Recently too — sorry David bringing you up again — I have been experimenting with very minimal themes compared to my, as some people would call it, “my famous design” themes. So far, I am very impressed with the results of going minimal. When I mean minimal, I mean just that… no CSS, no bells and whistles, just straight up monetized content on a white background with black text with blue links.
If you have a question that you would like me to answer live on my blog, simply contact me with your question. Do what Jarret did and provide me with a very nice email that fully explains your situation. If you do so, then I just might include it on my blog.
For those who don’t know, I am actually offering to build you your very own Niche WordPress Blog for free. This includes free WordPress install, free SEO on a theme and five free professionally written articles based off researched keywords and phrases on your chosen niche.
Building niche WordPress blogs is where the money is at. They are very simple to build, require no maintenance and have a very minimal amount of time invested afterward. With that said, not many people are building them. At least that is my perception by following a lot of the people who read my blog.
I’d like to help you build a niche WordPress blog and I’d also like to get paid for doing it. However, I have a way where I can help build a niche blog for you where it won’t cost you a dime. As many of you know, I get a sales commission for selling HostGator.com web hosting. Also too, I have been researching other web hosting companies and I can get a sales commission for selling their services too.
So here is the deal. If you would like to have a niche WordPress blog, simply order your web hosting account with HostGator.com. Get their “Baby Plan” use coupon code: wordpress to get the first month for a penny. After you do that, simply contact me and let me know you placed your order.
From there, I will learn about the things that interest you and the things that you feel comfortable writing about. Upon discovering this information, I will research and find a handful of available domain names for you, I will help you get WordPress installed, I will get it search engine friendly by making all the normal tweaks that I normally do for myself, I will install all the plugins that I normally use for myself and to top it off, I will provide you with five free professionally written articles that are optimized for your chosen niche. These articles will be uploaded and published to your niche blog, they will be assigned a proper category and will also be properly tagged.
All you need to do is pay for the domain name and web hosting. Which when you do so through HostGator.com, they in return pay me. So basically, I am working for my sales commission rather than attempting to pitch the product while doing nothing like everyone else. Money is earned with hard work and I am willing to build you a blog and get you on your feet in order for me to earn my commission.
Interested? If so, then you know what to do.
Also, if you are already a HostGator.com customer, we will need to use BlueHost.com. Also too, I am secret shopping many web hosting companies towards finding the best web hosting companies online. But in the mean time, HostGator.com and BlueHost.com are perfect for this type of project.
If you are not sold on this offer, let’s look at it from another perspective. If you sign up for HostGator.com’s Baby Plan and use coupon code: wordpress, you are going to walk out paying only one penny! With that, you are also getting all of my services mentioned above fro that same penny!
Quite honestly, if you don’t take me up on this offer, you then need to stop acting as if you want to make money online because you really don’t. Seriously!
