Should You Use Google AdSense Right Away On A New Site?
For me when I launch niche blogs and sites with the aim of making money using Google AdSense, I don’t waste much time and go ahead and place Google AdSense ads on the site. There is some debate going on concerning whether publishers should not add AdSense right away and wait a few months until the site gets more established in the search engines.
In my opinion, I don’t think it makes much of a difference. If I were to choose and make a decision, I would say that it is better to put AdSense ads on your new blog or site right away. In fact, I can’t prove this, but I think having AdSense on your site can enable it to get indexed quicker.
Google has an AdSense bot that visits your site in order to figure out what kind of ads to display based off your content. My guess, or if I were Google, I would make it so that these various BOTS communicated together and collaborated data. If this is true, which again I can’t prove, then if the AdSense bot visits the site to gather data about the content, I am sure information is relayed to their web crawler.
I received an email from a reader of mine named, John Coke. He was curious to get some opinions on this subject. Here is the copy of the email he sent me:
Hi Garry,
I hope your home office job is all wrapped up. I have been following you, Grizzly and Court/Mark (and a few others from time to time) on small niche blogs monetized by adsense and have a newbie question.
I am a bit confused if there are pros/cons of having adsense showing up on the site when you just went live and have not yet been indexed by G. There seems to be some views going around that suggest putting focus on links and PR in the early stages, then add adsense. The rationale is that adsense if applied up front can slow you down.
You are one of the adsense masters, what does your experience suggest?
Many thanks and take care,
John
BTW – the support you are providing is excellent!
What are your thoughts? Should you use Google AdSense on your site right away? Or, is it better to wait a little bit until the site gets more established? Drop me a comment and share your thoughts. John asks a very excellent question. Once again, I always display AdSense ads straight away. What do you do, and why?

Good question Gary, I have always recommended waiting until the site is established as it can get mistaken for a MFA (made for adsense or made for ads) site when it is not.. And I have always found that any ads during a new site can lower the rank of pages in the serps, not saying they wont be included just lower on new sites of pages as seen by the filter..
The guide i use is wait until the site has over 130 (over 100 posts or pages) uniques a day before putting any ads at all, however that is my opinion, I just use this guide to keep safe from excessive outgoing links filters new sites can get into (supplementary results)..
It took me a while to work this one out as well, whether it is true or not, it could all be down to backlinks in th end however I find for me waiting until over 130 uniques is a saftey measure for me ..
I’ve always added Adsense right away, for the mere fact that I don’t have to think about it later on down the road. If I make money right away, cool. If not, I’m not really out anything. In my opinion, it’s just become part of the blog-building process. Choose the design, pick and choose my widgets, put in the Adsense code. Once it’s in place, I don’t have to think about it anymore.
Three of my sites I did it right away. After all, I was trying to make money. The latest I haven’t put it on yet. Trying the build authority first.
Having it on right away hasn’t seemed to cause problems. Although, I’ve heard that Google may not be so quick to hand out Adsense accounts.
I’ll have to get back to you on the attempt at authority first.
If your main target is search engine traffic, then I would put adsense on right away, as you aren’t looking for loyal readers, just traffic which will bring you money
I had my site up for about 3 weeks before I put on adsense (I had adbrite for first 3 weeks). But I noticed that once I had the adsense up the googlebot visited more often.
Actually I was quite suprised that google was paying so much attention to a site that was not even a month old. I attributed all to having an adsense account. But like Garry, I cannot prove it.
Someone needs to create 2 sites (or blogs) at the sometime. One with adsense the other without and see which ones gets visited more by google.
Incidentally, your post is very much applicable with my latest post. My fast answer is a big NO. I do not recommend to put Adsense on a new blog. While it is true that bloggers (especially newbies) should not waste their time, they should understand how Google Adsense works.
First of all, an ad is only being clicked by those who really need it. It is not just about curiosity or rewarding a blogger for his wonderful post. And the real people who really need them are visitors from search engines. Social traffic is good but not for Adsense. In fact, visitors from social sites hate ads and they are being annoyed by them. No blogger click on ads and buy its product, right? This is because bloggers love to read, follow, and leave comments, but not to click ads.
So, what will advertisers do? They may be paying lesser, in which the publisher will also receive fewer earnings. This is what we call smart pricing.
But there could be a worst scenario. Since most of the ad clicks are coming from social sites, it can hardly be converted into sales. Therefore, Google Adsense might suspect you that you are inviting your social friends to click them even if you do not. Eventually, your account might be suspended.
I have been reading a lot of complains from new bloggers at top webmaster forums about their account being banned even if they do not click their own ads, and not even inviting their friends to click them.
To end this, I think Google Adsense loves advertisers more than publishers. The logic is simple. If advertisers cannot make a good sale from Adsense, they can easily remove their ads and find another marketing strategy. On the other hand, Google Adsense can easily replace a publisher especially if he is not bringing them money. Besides, a lot of bloggers are dying to join Adsense since they think it is very easy to make money.
Thanks and sorry for the long comment.
I would go with Grizzly on this and not you Garry. Grizzly, from experience has noticed that sites that implement adsense right away get thrown into the sandbox more often than the other way round. These sites are suspected of providing low value, and hence have to prove their loyalty to the big G.
Since it is Grizz’s experience that is backing up this theory, I will go with him.
I am wondering which would is better suited for a blog for my freelance writings or articles, blogger.com or google blog or today.com or even yahoo blog. eventually i will put google adsense. can google adsense be added to any of those websites that let you create a blog. thank you very much for your help.
Hi Blue,
You can have Google Adsense on Blogspot (Blogger) blogs, in fact, they even have Adsense in their “Layout” to make it very easy to add them in.
Hope this helps!
I would put it right away on a new blog. Maybe we are so used to see the adsense ads on blogs, that now we design websites and blogs with the ad space already in mind.
So, yes, I'd put it right away. Otherwise I will have a dummy image in that spot.
I am doing the same as well, put it and then check latter if it's not bringing the expected earnings!
